Sad when she said "not always romantic, fun you have people disrespecting your vehicle cause they think you are a bum, a vagrant or whatever." People should not be judgemental and assume the worst. People should be respectful and understand why an individual or a couple or a family live on buses or tiny homes. Since the pandemic, many people have moved towards tiny living to have less financial stress. Now in 2022, with apartment rents skyrocketing and mortgages going up along with everything else, people are moving into skoolies, vans, or tiny homes to survive financially. One day I too want to move into a tiny home on wheels. Julie I have respect for you and your vehicle. You did an amazing job creating your own tiny home on your bus. Know that you are not struggling financially to pay rising apartment rents, rising electric bills, etc. You did an awesome job, thank you for sharing! 💖
Thank you! I should add, those moments are not common. It's definitely become more acceptable over the years, with more people creating non-traditional dwelling spaces. Still, every once in awhile you get someone who has strong negative perceptions of your choice.

Usually folk that make fun of others, do so because they need someone to step on/bully and make a mockery of. (Often times because they want to dish out all that's been done to them. If they only knew what Time fastforwarding would do. For some, having "the works" (in life) will have them do and say things arrogantly.
I wish I knew about Skoolie life when I was younger and my kids where home. Being a single mom I struggled a lot to keep a roof over our heads and food in our bellys. While working 2 jobs the whole time. If I knew about skoolie life I would have done it in a heartbeat, when my kids were younger. We could of had so much more quality time together and able to travel to see the country. Me and my kids love to travel and camp. This would have been a wonderful life for us. My kids are now grown and on their own. I'm getting older and ready to retire. Now I'm getting ready to start my own adventure in a short skoolie. I don't need a big bus now its just me and maybe my kids from time to time for a vacation trip... I think this Mom is doing the right thing living on a school bus with her son. What wonderful memories they will make. So much less stress not having to worry about rent or where your going to live. No one can take her home away from her and her son she owns her home now. This life style has to be freeing for her and the stress level must be way down, she can now breath not worrying so much. My hat is off to her, I wish her and her children all the best. I think this mom is smart to live on a school bus with her son it make a lot of sense to me....
Thank you! We're probably around the same age. My kids are grown and have independent lives. My son is 21 and travels with me. We're currently working on an organic farm in upstate NY. In my life I've had neighbors with beautiful homes, jobs, families, etc. etc. I'd take her as a neighbor any day. I say that because I had to relocate after a fire, in Santa Cruz. I ended up living in a number of places, most notably near a bunch of college kids that had RV's, busses, vans, etc. Best neighbors I had in years. I'm >65. They appreciated their living quarters, like Kat does. I bet she would make a great neighbor. I'll leave it at that, but it's been a tough few years now... and I'm understanding who the 'real people' are around me.
Thank you, Kevin! One of the things I think makes this life work, especially in the city, is to be considerent of people around you. You're not as anonymous when living differently. People are watching your behavior closely. I think over time I gained trust and respect of the community I chose to live amongst. I kept communications open and it worked out well. I appreciate your comment very much!
I'm glad she knows what's right for her. I have seen people living in school buses in my town. It's not the elegant lifestyle some youtubers make it out to be, but what else can they do when a house on a street is financially impossible? Who wants to put all their money into rent? Not me, but I do.
Imagine how beautiful the memories and experiences of having your 2 young kids with you on the road. It would be stressful at times, but you’d never forget those days road tripping and living in the bus with mom. You’d never be able to top that love.
I honestly wish I had the freedom to start this bus journey with my kids when they were younger. Alas they were fairly grown when I started it: 24, 18 & 16. My girls had already left home. My son spent the most time on the bus as I stayed in the city 2 more years as he finished high school, then one more year for work.

I love it when she said the bus is "me". I think the way she has customized the small space to suit her needs and desires is yet another example of why alternative living gives one a real independence more than that of buying an apartment and paying for a mortgage for years etc. This mobile home is also green - a big thumbs up to her brother in the solar sector. As to judging Kat, well yes they should, she should get five stars out of five, because the future of our planet should be greener, more diverse and mindful of who and where we are. When I think of all those millions cooped up in apartments and depressed over bills which haunt them until their last days - the life in small and alternative spaces is really and truly a blessing. So Kat you have my vote, and I by the way loved all the working. Look at the repurpose of the IKEA furniture. Daily I see so much waste. People have lost the skills of their forebears and it has led to more waste and pollution. Yes the future needs to be alternative.

The days of having a place to live to own is fast becoming out of reach . The bus conversion is a way to answer . You are safe, your rent is not going to double. The things you carry or create are the things you love . If you decide to purchase some land , park your bus build a shelter over the whole thing , landscape your oasis , one day you can have your serenity and made people ever so jealous. I think people forget the way the ancestors started, in caves, in sod houses, one room houses. Additional rooms added as family grew.

Michelle, 2003, as we scribbled our RequirementsStatement -- on a brown paper grocery bag -- for our ExpeditionVehicle, we focused on positive travels. A couple-three years ago, we developed a fresh RequirementsStatement... focusing on a workkamp on a small organic farm near Eugene, Oregon. As we scribbled on a brown grocery bag, we quickly realized the simplest route to find our potential cow-orkers... at Farmer Markets. And this's the darnedest thing -- our workkamp acreage has the four mules we requested in our RequirementsStatement. . How are you coming with your RequirementsStatement?

Just a cozy homey lovely home I'd love to live in! Goals ! I am in love with your home 🏡
@@Katmondieuour built is great, wow Bx, where would you find parking there, did you have all paperwork/ insured before you started the build process? And is it expensive living in nyc It’s almost $400 just for a small car.
Hoppy? Hoppy from out Kerhonkson? He's a genius with wood working? If so I'm aware of him I love his work and I used to work with his sister The bus is gorgeous and right up my alley.
Its helped me improve my communication. I'm able to reorient some people's thinking by showing them the side they don't see right away. I'm just another person in this world navigating the changes.
Do ask yourselves why working and living in order to rent and owning a home has gotten so much harder in a generation. Years of romanticising make shift homes or super compact apartments because the market is so phrohibitive is a sad thing.
I understand what you're saying. For me it's a choice, living on a bus, for many reasons. The main reason being freedom to roam and visit friends and family, and exploring the country.
Your build truly looks like a home, and it obviously is reflective of you. As you have a wood stove in your bus, did you have any issues with vehicle insurance? I'd be curious, as I was planning a build and incorporating a wood stove, but another bus dweller had a problem insuring their build because of a wood stove...
Yes...insurance is always a challenge. The companies prefer you to have your bus converted professionally. Each state is different too. Some states being less strict than others. It's a matter of research and shopping around.
John, Shop for insurance. For vehicle reg, shop for bureaucrats: * If you get a 'no', say "I think I have that paperwork at home...", then go to a different bureaucracy someplace else. Be creative, be prepared, be persistent... be calm.
Hi, thanks for sharing your story. I live in NYC and I am very interested in a skoolie lifestyle. Can you recommend where you looked to purchase a used school bus in the NY region?
Georgiann, Today on the skoolie forum, I saw several busses for sale. Some, converted. Some, partials after the converters lost initiative. . My preference: Empty... toss in some car-camping gear, go have fun. Allow the conversion to evolve organically, based on your use. . Suggestion: * avoid trying to dup a stand-still house inside an 8x20. Example: In our ExpeditionVehicle, we have no cabinets above waist-level, giving a visual and visceral sense of openness to a closed space. As you might expect, less 'storage' requires less stuff. Take up harmonica, quit them tuba lessons.
You are quite brilliant and inspired. Besides the remax battery bank what kind of inverter are you using. Name brand? Is genius. Absolutely. Also what solar battery charging control panel did you pick brand and model ... Everything outhere is such junk. Tried and true is soo hard to find.
@@Katmondieu That's why they're so awesome. Erything today is made to break. You can find really good stuff believe it or not on eBay. Don't let me put you to too much trouble. I'm just a Kindred spirit looking for Guidance in a world gone crazy. That's a very good set up. Thanks so much
Bill, Our inverters are 750-Watt. We acquired them from a local-owned family-operated automotive parts house. We carry a couple-three in each vehicle, plus probably a half-dozen in the rig. . An aside: We cook on induction hot-plates. We usually cook outside, one or more on a picnic-table. A 750-Watt inverter works just fine to power a hot-plate. . For showers, we use a three-gallon 'Torpedo' keg, a miniature version of our stainless-steel five-gallon retired Pepsi kegs. We heat shower water using a kitchen 'sous vide' circulation heater... through a 750-Watt inverter. For a three-gallon shower, a brainiac chum calculated the photovoltaic needed to top our bank... about fifteen minutes mid-day.

Superb! That was such a treat, to do a virtual bus tour. I love the former liquor shelf and all the artwork. All of it, really. Thanks 👍💙💚💜
Thank you! The artwork is mostly by my incredibly artistic family and friends art that I bought.
What a beautiful spirit !
The bus is cool, but the person is Amazing...
Awww! Thank you😺
Pretty amazing bus 🚌 conversion. It meets her expectations, which is most important.

Greetings from the Netherlands.
Thank you, Jan!
You are amazing and you have much to be proud of. It is a wonderful cozy place and you did a beautiful job!
Thank you! It does make me happy!
So tempted to convert a skoolie or van for the extra room. Currently boondocking out of the back of my little suv, definitely appreciate the gas mileage it gets though haha
What is your setup in your SUV for boondocking. Thanks
@@adamputman5751 I took out the back seats and built a platform where I sleep on. Then there is storage underneath. If you check out our channel I’ve actually got a video walking through the whole layout! It’s called like 2017 Hyundai Tucson build
I admire you.🤗 Keep doing you. Love.💕You are awesome. Many more blessings to you and yours.🙏 Amen.
Thank you!
Much respect to you, continue to create, and be your very best.
Thank you James!
Beautifully converted
This is absolutely amazing! I love every bit of this. U did an outstandingly beautiful job. I’m not sure where u are located. But I assume it’s local, being that Hoppy helped out and your theatre chair from Hoppy is originally from the Ellenville theatre. I hope to see this beautiful work of art “out in the wild” lol. I’m more than happy for u. Such a beautiful piece. Much love. 🤟🏻✌🏻🤙🏻❤️ p.s. Hoppy is truly a gift to this earth. I don’t know him well, but from the few times I’ve met him. He was such a pure human. One of my best friends was the one who had the motorcycle accident in front of Hoppy’s homestead. Im forever indebted to Hoppy for being there with my friend in his last minutes with us. Hoppy is a true saint. Thank u for amazing video and continue creating your beautiful bus. Strive for greatness. ❤️
Well done, congradulations, great hearing option and the solar is fantastic. Have a great adventure.

Such a very lovely home. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
Thank you!
What a stunning conversion.
Thank you!
I love it! So eclectic and welcoming. I have to wonder where you can park a bus? Where I'm from, (Victoria BC Canada), I think it would be a struggle but I'm delighted she can make it work😊❤️🚙🇨🇦
Nico 😘😻🤗
Michelle,
2003, as we scribbled our RequirementsStatement -- on a brown paper grocery bag -- for our ExpeditionVehicle, we focused on positive travels.
Michelle, it's registered as a personal vehicle (like an RV) so I can park it in two consecutive car spaces.
Incredibly beautiful van. Love it. ❤
this is so beautiful! I love the color in the rig. I 'm building out my 1988 chevy van home and I am so excited to travel and work in film and TV. Great video!
Thank you! Have a wonderful adventure!
Love the build perfection 🥰
Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for recycling. Great job on the bus. Peace ✌️
Thank you! Recycling makes each build unique!
its such a pretty bus, its nicely decorated !!
Just a cozy homey lovely home I'd love to live in! Each space has it's comfortable character , yes, reminds me of being young as a girl making beauty out of fort or bedroom closet into an awesome barbie mansion now I crave to make a home space out of a van or bus too! Goals ! I am in love with your home 🏡
Thank you!
It's hers and that's ALL that matters💛

Great 👍 job keep it up .,, beautiful 🤩 don’t let the negativity get to you .,, from those people.,,,, lovely 🥰
It doesn't. I just wonder why they're wasting their time focusing on me if they're so bothered. Why not focus on stuff they like?
Wow! Building out a Skokie in the Bx and living in it! I thought doing that in the city was impossible.
I moved it around a lot. We worked on it all over Brooklyn as well, including Lowes parking lot near Gawanus, until they kicked me out.
@@Katmondieuour built is great, wow Bx, where would you find parking there,
did you have all paperwork/ insured before you started the build process? And is it expensive living in nyc It’s almost $400 just for a small car.
I LOVE your bus!! The love that you put into it is awesome!!!
Beautiful bus
wow!Really nice job!
Thank you, Aaron!
Lovely and cozy. I love the rich colors.
Hoppy? Hoppy from out Kerhonkson? He's a genius with wood working? If so I'm aware of him I love his work and I used to work with his sister
The bus is gorgeous and right up my alley.
Yes! Hoppy and I go way back 🥰😉
@@Katmondieu what a small world! There isn't many men out there with the name Hoppy right?
Gorgeous boho bus, I'd love to live in something like that.....it looks so homely, well done Kat. Watching from Suffolk, England.
Lovely! I plan to visit my brother in Devon and my sister in Ireland in a year or 2

❤❤❤ swoon. beautiful home beautiful soul
Wow beautiful bus.
The main reason being freedom to roam and visit friends and family, and exploring the country.
if eye dint all red eye hav my old 1968 airstream eye wud totally build out a skoolie. great bus julie!
🤘😋
I love Airstreams too! Love to have a piece of property someday and get an Airstream too!
Love your tiny home
Amazing!!! I too will be using my tax return to.get our bus myself and my kids
Excellent designation for a tax return 👏🏼
Your build truly looks like a home, and it obviously is reflective of you. As you have a wood stove in your bus, did you have any issues with vehicle insurance? I'd be curious, as I was planning a build and incorporating a wood stove, but another bus dweller had a problem insuring their build because of a wood stove...
Yes...insurance is always a challenge. The companies prefer you to have your bus converted professionally. Each state is different too. Some states being less strict than others. It's a matter of research and shopping around.
John,
Shop for insurance.
For vehicle reg, shop for bureaucrats:
* If you get a 'no', say "I think I have that paperwork at home...", then go to a different bureaucracy someplace else.
Be creative, be prepared, be persistent... be calm.
budget does not mean ugly and low quality.
Not at all. 😊
Will you get another cat... I hope so..lots of fur babies out there who need a home❤️
I still have 2 senior cats! They're Rufus (16) and Stewie (14). They're doing well. I don't think, at their age, they will adjust to another kitty!
The farm looks so peaceful. Prefer it to NYC?
I love both ways of life. I go back to the city once a week to do the farmers market, and visit my daughter and grandchildren when I can!
@@Katmondieu Nice that you created that option for yourself. 👍
Hi, thanks for sharing your story. I live in NYC and I am very interested in a skoolie lifestyle. Can you recommend where you looked to purchase a used school bus in the NY region?
I found mine through Craigslist, but you can go directly to school bus companies and ask if they have any for sale.
Georgiann,
Today on the skoolie forum, I saw several busses for sale.
Some, converted.
Some, partials after the converters lost initiative.
.
My preference:
Empty... toss in some car-camping gear, go have fun.
Allow the conversion to evolve organically, based on your use.
.
Suggestion:
* avoid trying to dup a stand-still house inside an 8x20.
Example:
In our ExpeditionVehicle, we have no cabinets above waist-level, giving a visual and visceral sense of openness to a closed space.
As you might expect, less 'storage' requires less stuff.
Take up harmonica, quit them tuba lessons.
Where did you buy your electric heater?? I would like to get one!
The electric one was bought at Walmart
You are quite brilliant and inspired. Besides the remax battery bank what kind of inverter are you using. Name brand? Is genius. Absolutely.
Also what solar battery charging control panel did you pick brand and model ... Everything outhere is such junk. Tried and true is soo hard to find.
Thank you! I'll have to look. They're something my brother had laying around...possibly "antiques" compared to what's available these days.
@@Katmondieu That's why they're so awesome. Erything today is made to break. You can find really good stuff believe it or not on eBay. Don't let me put you to too much trouble. I'm just a Kindred spirit looking for Guidance in a world gone crazy. That's a very good set up. Thanks so much
Thank you!!
Bill,
Our inverters are 750-Watt.
We acquired them from a local-owned family-operated automotive parts house.
We carry a couple-three in each vehicle, plus probably a half-dozen in the rig.
.
An aside:
We cook on induction hot-plates.
