  • Update: My bus is now for sale.
a tour of my self converted, 32 ft school bus with a gaming set up, full bathroom, remote work set up, and kitchen.
A few things that I missed in the video that I think are really important:
-total conversion cost: $42,000 we messed up our math for the thumbnail. (including the bus, six new tires, several tools, and the conversion)
    -bus length: 32 ft
-fuel type: diesel (which is often more expensive than gas!)
-our bus does NOT have a DEF tank. many diesel vehicles do, however.
-time spent converting the bus: 15 months
-the bus also has a DC-DC battery charger
-our battery bank takes 4 or 5 days to fully charge with regular use
-we literally just got a generator to help charge our battery bank
-my boyfriend and I converted the bus together. he just didn't want to be in the video because he's kind of camera shy :)
thank you to the subscribers who suggested I make this video!

You are genius for putting another door and wall in to separate the can from the “home” 🏡. Such an amazing idea! I have never seen that before but love that idea. 😊

First of all, beautiful bus - especially with that wheelchair accessibility door idea. And I love how it looks like your boyfriend just lifted his desk and put it in lol. If he doesn't already plan to, please please convince him to build some shock absorbing mount for the pc. Even better if he finds a case where he can lay the motherboard flat. That current setup will not appreciate long drives with a bus's suspension. Hope you're able to add more amp hours to your battery bank in the future!

    Nice build and tour.
When I built my van I used chases for the wiring and plumbing. It allows me to change or repair either one without having to tear into the walls, ceiling or floors.

You did very well, and your humility and intent were evident.
One thing I noticed was your toilet at the wall, which makes sense and doesn't require the head room that the shower does. That should enable showering without first removing the toilet (which, by the placement of your shower curtain, looks like your methodology), and it also makes it easy to vent the toilet to the outside of the bus, should odors become an issue. I will be adding that to my notes for my possible/eventual build. 👏

For the couch, get a pair of pneumatic lifts (like on the back window or hood of a car) and mount them so they assist in lifting, that will fix the problem with lifting the heavy wood.

You can make large draws under the couch and make the slats for the pull out bed have legs that go between and on the sides of the draws instead of one solid wood panel... I've seen it done many times and definitely makes it way more functional and easily accessible.😊

Do you have a place to store bicycles with? If it was me, I'd keep the wheelchair lift, and in the back, to act as a garage for it so I would store it inside rather than outside and not have to use a bike rack on the hitch receiver or a pull out ramp under the emergency exit, that way, bikes could ride safely and dryly, and I would still be able to tow a flatbed trailer with a four wheel drive car like my Ford Escape loaded in it, I also would add a sewer tank and flushable toilet like in an RV along with the gray and fresh tanks so that I could dump the sewage and gray water at a campground. Just thoughts and ideas.

I want to buy a lot in the mountains, build a huge deck, and beside the deck put something we can sleep in…a weekend hang out…probably here in Xela, Guatemala.
I really don’t care to drive it….dont really care if it has an engine, if I can get it cheap enough. Just have someone tow it up beside the deck and leave it there.
Is that stupid ? Should I be looking for one that is driveable ?
I’d rather not even have to have insurance for it.
    Thx !

i'm very fortunate to have the bus-house i do!
in the name of transparency - i have taken on debt to make this happen. based on my experience, i think van/bus builds are sometimes more expensive than people let on, so i wanted to be upfront about the cost!

    • @sashabenoit1518
      @sashabenoit1518 Год назад +2

I think that's a major misconception... From my experience, most young couples that choose van/bus life are doing it to try and save money to have a chance at owning some land and a house one day and/or have an alternative option to traditional housing wasting money on ridiculously high rent prices. Make bo mistake, it's definitely a BIG investment upfront, but overall is a more affordable option and you own it, giving you an asset you can resell in the future. I think it's great that young couples are creative in finding and making their own ways around our crazy economy and a wise decision because the way the economy and housing market is these days, young couples don't stand a chance at owning a home going through the traditional route of renting and saving. Also, most people have either saved for a long time, lived with parents or even in their rig and build as they make the money to, or take out loans to cover the initial investment cost... So even tho the large price tag of these builds seems like a lot, it's usually not from just extra money they have laying around and compared to a house is still WAY less expensive. It's actually probably comparable to a new car loan, in terms of monthly payments and that's without having to pay rent or mortgage. So don't let these price tags discourage you, there's always a way to make it work... and if you can do a lot of the work yourself, like they have, it will save you even more! There are THOUSANDS of RUclips videos out there that will break down and show you how to do a complete build, everything from cabinets to showers and the electrical!😊
