- Rice Vinegar Vs. Rice Wine Vinegar - Which one should be used for sushi? When you go to an Asian marketplace to buy ingredients for sushi, you might be confused by the labeling. In this short video, I'll explain the difference between the two and which one you should use.
3 Minutes of Sushi is a new type of video format that I'm trying out. These will be short videos (approx. 3 minutes in length) that will cover some interesting facts and answer common questions about making sushi at home.

I love how you break everything down to plain English. I often find that shopping at Asian markets is so confusing, but at the same time I want the most authentic ingredients. More videos about choosing the right ingredients are always super helpful!
Thank you! I will try to make some more videos on choosing the right ingredients for sushi. :)
Thank you it was really helpful 😄

Very helpful, thank you. 🐾
You're a LIFESAVER!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you and God bless you
thank you
Hi Brian, How about the white rice vinegar? Can I use it for sushi seasoning? i am looking for the alternative of vinegar without alcohol. Thanks in advance! 👍👍
Do you know if It is gluten free? My daughter (and now rest of family) has celiac. I used to shop Asian market but few things have allergy information. Love sushi and am trying to create our own safe to eat! Like your videos, great lightening and easy to follow!
Willow Lane Thank you! I can't speak on behalf of all rice wine vinegar, but I use Marukan. The Marukan labels are always in Japanese and English and the only ingredient is rice wine vinegar. So it should be gluten free! :)
Probably by now you already know about einkorn wheat but if not please look for it and some of your health food stores were wherever and start using that to make your Breads and pretzels because first of all has more protein is more flavorful and is only 1% gluten as opposed to the American garbage wheat which has 14% gluten and also the icorn is supposedly the oldest wheat on this planet and was almost extinct but it goes back ten thousand years at least
For all those who are still confused:
Rice wine (sake) ----> one step further -----> results into Rice vinegar (another name: rice wine vinegar)
So, Rice vinegar = rice wine vinegar!
Phew~
It would be helpful to put the proportions of vinegar, sugar, and salt in the video.
What Mirin then
You say technically it’s the same. Then you say the rice wine vinegar is taken a step farther. Then you say it’s the same, just marketed differently! Which is it?
Rice vinegar and rice wine vinegar are the same. Rice wine (sake) taken one step further turns into rice wine vinegar/rice vinegar.
But i have a question, can we use rice wine in place of rice wine vinegar. As I don't know how to make it at home.
No, not really. You don't need to make rice wine vinegar at home though - it is widely available in most areas.
@@Secretsofsushi yes it is but my father only eats home made food, I mean even ingredients should be home made then only he eats. That's why I was asking.
And thank you sir☺️
Well in that case you could learn to make vinegar at home using rice wine. 🤷♂️
@@Secretsofsushi OK thank you☺️
there is no rice vinegar or rice wine vinegar in the place where I live . what should I use please ??
I would order it online in that case: amzn.to/2zRJgFh
I'm wondering where you live and maybe you could tell us
The internet.
Hi, by mistake i buy sweet rice vinegar what can I do with it?
Is it called Mirin? Or is it rice wine vinegar with sugar added to it?
@@Secretsofsushi no mirin no , just sweet rice vinegar
There's nothing you can do. You'll have to go to jail for purchasing the wrong item. Sorry.
@@circle4922 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Read the amount of sugar and salt on the label. It's probably perfectly fine to use in sushi - you might need to add a little sugar or salt to make it perfect.
Only wish there were a Gari recipe here. :-)
Oh, that's a good idea! I'll have to make a video for gari. 😁
@@Secretsofsushi if possible... please consider a Keto version and then a non-keto version.
I am Keto and it has changed my life. I hate how I feel now when I introduce unnecessary carbs to throw of my metabolism, due to my thyroid condition.
So does that mean I can use rice wine vinegar???
Yes, it does
Secrets of Sushi thank you
