This was sensational when it was first released in 1980. I used to dance to it then when I was a student in Preston, UK. The band and their music bring back so many happy memories. Even after so long they still amaze with their performances. The newly inserted cadenza, performed by Tommy Kessler is something else. It has elevated what was a masterpiece into the stratosphere of music. This guy deserves far more credit and recognition than what he gets here. Rock on Tommy!
Atomic is one of those miracle songs that challenges you regardless of your musical education or background. It is simply a great song. Equal to any song in the western musical tradition since the middle ages. That it was created tongue-in-check by a bunch of irreverent 70's nerds, who happened to be fantastic musicians with an insane work ethic, makes it all the more fantastic. It's a song that transcends everything, especially the cool of the band and the mortality of its creators. The song has a life force of its own that hangs in the air above band and audience alike, ringing through the hearts and minds of all present. When you watch the early live videos, you have to slap yourself that Prog-Rock had been at its zenith only a few years before, and the stage set up with its mountain of keyboards could be from a band like Yes. The in-line sound track is raw and primitive for all the high tech. The song can hardly be contained by the musicians. Today, they may have 'solved' all those problems, but the band has moved on in life. God knows why Debbie's mic was so soft... it didn't do her justice. Because, sure, she can't sing the song like she did 30 years ago, but who cares. Maybe she cares. There is no right or wrong about it. It just is. If we can love Billy Holiday, we can love an older Debbie Harry... the song is still immortal and it could be translated into any tradition of music. I'd love to see a corral version of it. Hell any version is worth a listen.
Hi Kim hoberg, thank you for putting this on youtube. Compared to the other recordings on youtube of the same song, I think you will agree this is a superb recording in comparison. Of cause live is always a million times better due to the atmosphere, but some of it has been captured on this excellent recording. The cymbals are crystal clear, bass nice and strong and reverberation just right, balancing is perfect. The audience are also very lucky to have seen this at a free concert as a front row seat here in England is costing £85, and tickets are selling out fast. This could be our last chance to watch this super star with her excellent musicians perform live. Judging by the audience reaction, they loved it. www.viagogo.com/ww/Concert-Tickets/Rock-and-Pop/Blondie-Tickets/E-2328775
Stephen Clarke and garry whiting who are now ever proper gay partners forever together and we like 1980s music this is the new 1980s music in 2019 same stuff we both like very same music and we like proper stuff instead
She can't sing anymore. This is the second concert where I have seen here giving the high parts to the audience to sing. I can't believe the audacity of making a new record, lol. Milking to death has ruined her legend. I now see desperation., Anyone who thinks this is awesome is retarded.
You are deluded beyond comprehension if you think her milking it to death is a good thing. My image of her is now shattered, they look foolish. There is no singing, she hands it off to the audience for the hard parts.
@@pearlyq3560 These 2 shows she injured her vocal and wanted to postpone but was obligated by contract. She was FORCED to still follow through. One of the 2 shows the fans actually Loved the participation because they were LOYAL.When she got well again,I heard her unplugged in Acoustic setting,no hiding!!! She still has her vocal ability.Being forced to still perform, she was forced to take longer to heal. Was a shame..
Watched this on multiple occasions.
What a drumming masterclass by Clem Burke.
Absolutely Brilliant.
Clem Burke one of the most underrated drummers in history!
Hubert Vale he seriously blows my mind
YES!!!
the passionate he has is beyond all those modern-era esque drummers'

Hello.
Actually I don't think the sound is that great.
The gig, a free concert, was performed at the SchwuZ in Berlin, April the 28'th this year.

Continua cativante.
Why is the drummer (Clem Burke) behind a glass panel?
Strong drums tough on vocalist's ability to hear and adjust ones own tone..Clem plays strong...I must do same or ear plugs... one or other..
Is that a priest rocking out at 0:33?
It sure looks like it 😂 supposedly the current pope is or was at some point a metal fan
Elle a perdu un peu de voix, ma Blondie, mais elle est toujours aussi jolie !

Clem Burke really needs to put a little more effort in ...... ;-)
Donny Pepquo😂
this version is awful. she's barely singing. she's making the audience sing because she can't hit the notes.
No good live
Little Bunny Bunny I hope you get new hearing aids soon.
