I love Debbie Harry. When she was the biggest female rock artist, her boyfriend got very ill and she put her career on hold to nurse him back to health. That speaks volumes to the kind of beautiful heart and soul she has. She's obviously supremely talented, and stunningly beautiful- -even to this day, but she showed how beautiful she is on the inside too. From the moment I heard that she had stopped everything to take care of him, my admiration for her went through the roof.

I had a girlfriend that worked as a nurse at the hospital Chris Stein was in while sick. (This was years before I dated her.) She told me that Debbie Harry was always at the hospital, basically living there. That she was indeed a caring loving person and deeply devoted to him. Very polite and respectful to staff too. She was a person with a sick loved one, not a rock star, no pretenses or attitude.

Blondie is considered a New Wave band, although the styling of their major hits vary greatly. The majority of their catalog has a new wave feel. Blondie perfectly marked time with the New Wave era, which started late in the disco era (their first hit, Heart of Glass, is a disco song) and ended with the rise of rap (Rapture was their last hit).

Actually Blondie started as a punk band back in the mid 70s and they along with Talking Heads shared the house band title for famed punk club CBGBs for a couple years. Then they decided to be "popular" and moved closer to New Wave and pop in their music output. Great band though. Very tight sound. Debra Harry still is around and even performs now and then, mostly around NYC which has been her/their home base since forever.

I just asked that question. I thought it was her. There will never be another beauty like Gia. When I was a young man in New York city back in the 70’s, I would have never dreamed that I would meet so many beautiful women as I did when I was an assistant makeup artist. I was briefly introduced to Gia outside a club one night. She asked me for a cigarette. I actually questioned if I was a gay man as I was talking to her. I’d never reacted so viscerally to a woman before. We all found out that she passed after the fact. I would have gone to her service. Rest easy Gia. You’re okay now.

The line “Your hair is beautiful tonight” is sweet. Presumably she’s singing to a man - androgyny isn’t really a part of her persona - so it’s an unusual compliment, and very touching.
(Edited to place her in the present tense lol
    Thank goodness she’s still around.)

Unusual compliment? Men quite often get compliments on their hair if its well looked after, well groomed and looks good to especially from their lady folk.

Even though iam proud to be British, especially proud to come from Manchester because of all the talent etc,I was a teenager in the late 70s and was a massive Police fan as well as the king of new romantic David Bowie. However I absolutely loved what was coming out of new York around that time period, think of lou Reed and Bowie mixing with Debbie Harry's Blondie, we all are grateful for the buzz.

The songs were great - that was Blondie's secret. They were written by Debbie Harry & Clem Burke (who were an item at the time). Debbie was also a fantastic front woman. You must check out their earlier stuff - Denis Denis was their debut single that shot them to the top of the charts. I remember seeing them on TOP of the POPS - a British chart show, and thought she was incredible. Another song you should definitely listen to is "Hanging on the Telephone" which has more of their rough, new wave roots.

Best memory of this song. I had just, one year prior to this song coming out, moved into the town where I now live. I was in 5th grade. I met my first new friend when he played this, on the drums, for a school talent show. He was in 5th grade also. His name: Alex Van Halen - No I am joking 😃. I only knew that kid for two years. Found out he could not read music and he never did join the band. But he played this perfectly. The drummer of Blondie is an absolute amazing up tempo player - check out the song Dreaming off this album. He is an absolute beast.

OMG such great memories with this song. I lived 10 mins from my scholl so I would com home for lunch and two friends would come with me. I would shovel down some food or take a sandwich to my room and we would play half hour or so of music and when this cam out this got played daily. My mother got sick of it. We would wait for the Clem Burke drum piece in the middle and air drum like mad. So glad you've done this. A song of theirs that is often overlooked is 'Picture This'. Plus how good did she look in torn tights, torn tshirt and a black plastic bin bag with gold lipstick.
