As an East Coast cat growing up, we never really thought of the West Coast as lyrical but this album f*cked East Coast heads all the way up!!! Like this group CHANGED EVERYTHING!!! After this album we were checking for everything moving off of the Left Coast. I discovered Freestyle Fellowship, Saafir The Saucee Nomad, The Alcoholics(The Liks), The Pharycyde and so many other dope West Coast groups. I always listened to the West Coast groups like ATL, CPO, Mac Dre, Mac Mall, Spice 1, DJ Quik, Cube, Suga Free etc.... but we didn't really consider it as Hip Hop, we called it G-Funk or Rap.
My brother, u are describing it to a tee. I heard this joint and '93 till Infinity in 1993 and was bbn blown away when I found out they was from Oakland. You right, we only gave props to NYC rappers as far as lyrics. This joint opened me up. Production-wise, I knew NYC wasn't the only ones who could hold it down. Dress and Quick was already proving that but when we talk lyrics, I think Snoop might've been the only one (for me) because he had that unique flow. Personally, I never gravitated to 2Pac. I never did ...that's just me.

I loved this video cuz when they first came out it was hard to distinguish them from one another, since they all flowed a like some what. So with them spitting their verses in their own rooms, you can get to know who they were and their personalities. This was their third video, so it kinda got us to see each member personally. Clever
