You're so right my man. I have the same exact thought when listening to all the shit that I listen to, you know...that *_GOOD_* hip hop! No joke I have the same thing about their ages go through my mind verbatim when I'm bumpin young'ns like these young gentlemen. It may jus be because I, myself, am from the East but I personally am most impressed by Mobb Deep especially, but Nas is right up there as well. As everyone knows: Mobb's first album was a tad lackluster but "The Infamous"...?! Whew baby!!! "I'm only nineteen but my mind is older"!!! Seriously, I cannot stress it enough how friggin amazing that entire album was; such prolific poetry uttered from the mouth of mere babes...lol. In my humbleopinion, it truly beggars the imagination and blows the mind.

Right. Back in 91'-92', Del was already my favorite emcee. I got hooked on "Eye examination" and Dr. bombay. Fast forward to either to that spring or fall of 92' when That's when you lost came out on that blue tape. Like what a couple of others have said, that's when our lives changed. That shit was amazing smh. And then del dropped No need for alarm. Those couple of years were some of my best years regarding hip hop.

'93 in the 7th grade. I bought the "93' Til Infinity" album on cassette, cd, and on wax. Classic album and great example of what MC's (excuse me) a band of brother's who all can get down on the mic in their own individual styles and show lyrical prowess can do together. 24 years later and they're still together and they still rock the mic...God's been good to these dudes in ageing, wisdom, and it seems like they only get better rapping as they get older and I'm thankful that I grew up listening to a piece of hip-hop legend with the Souls of Mischief and Hieroglyphics crew.

Nice man. I didn't follow these guys till a friend turned me onto Deltron 3030 in about 06'. I'm 27 now and this the sound I gravitate too- that golden age hip hop. 88'-97' straight fire. I been getting into Big L lately even though he a NYC kid. RiP. Big L would have taken Jay Z podium had he not died shot buying his momma flowers. Big L, O.D.B, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Del the funkee and the whole Hieroglyphics crew > JayZ/lil wayne/Kendrick lamar/future and any rapper since the new millennium etc etc imo. Hip hop died with Ol dirty Bastard in a way. I'm just rambling on though. Ill stop. Glad your kids bumping the real hip hop.

Yup agreed! I grew up in the Bronx so you know back then I definitely wasn't trying to hear anything from the West coast. I hated the g-funk stuff, they admittedly had better production but I didn't care because the style of beats were wack but more importantly than any of that cats from the West just couldn't rhyme. Then I remember seeing a video from these guys and my brain exploded. Not only did they have lyrics but honestly as far as talent they were better than like 90% of cats back east and they had a sound that was different than the g funk stuff or what was being done on the east coast. I've always had alot of respect for these guys.

The summer after second grade!!!! July 93!!!!! It came on Rap City. The West was killing shit. Not only did they have G-Funk n Mob shit, but they also had backpacker music and boom bap as well. Their range was wide as fuck, and that's why they we're winning at the time. These cats, Their guy Del, The Pharcyde, and Freestyle Society (I think their name was) are prime examples of how wide the West's horizons were. I could go on and on about the year 93 PERIOD, but I'll leave just saying that this was a important year for hip hop, ESPECIALLY West coast hip hop, and this album 93' til infinity (which was the first cassette that my parents approved of my Bros and me having with profanity) really gave people a perspective on how versatile the West was. Love to The Mighty SOULS OF MISCHIEF!!!! HIP HOP RULES!!!!! I SLAP THIS SHIT TIL THIS DAY!!!!!!

There was a documentary on Heiro not long back, they mention the location of this video as Tilden Park in Berkeley. To anyone not from this area, I guess it's all kinda similar, but this is NOT Tilden. It's really John Hinkel Park, located in the North Berkeley Hills, this used to be a total 90s hip hopper smoke spot it's nestled into a neighborhood of some of Berkeley's most wealthy residents. They used to call the cops on people for hanging out there for years, but since weed is legal now, then it's too bad for them! To this day people are still there smoking and listening to music all day. If you're ever in Berkeley, definitely check it out. The large fireplace as seen in this video is deteriorating and the whole park has changed a little since the 1990's but still it's an iconic place.
