My husband deployed recently and I had a come to Jesus moment where I had to hack my life as much as possible... a 3month old and 2yr old by yourself is no joke 🤪🤣. I like the sock idea, I took it a step further and got a 6 drawer organizational bin tower for everyone's clothes and I keep those in the laundry room which is right next to the front door. One for me one for my 2yr old one for my baby. So when my toddler gets upset about having a green shirt and not a blue one before we walk out the door (you know what I'm talking about 🤣) I'm not running upstairs with him and the baby. I'm opening the laundry room door walking 5 steps and grabbing a new shirt. It's also super helpful for when I'm taking clothes out of the dryer. I'm not tempted to let it pile up...and I don't have to travel around the house putting laundry away. I just take it out of the dryer and put it into the correct towers. We come downstairs in the morning change out of pj's in the laundry room throw dirty pj's in the wash with the clothes from the day before and I start the load. At the end of the day we grab pj's and put dirty clothes in the washer to be washed in the morning with the pj's from the night before.. This has helped me so much. It not only helps me be more organized but it helped me declutter clothes we don't wear because there wasnt enough room in the towers for alllll the clothes lol.

I love that you have done this!
We designed our house so that the laundry room is through our closet door. Really helps with putting clothing in washer (I do loads all together and use half a sheet of a Color Catcher.
I want to thank you for your family’s service. Our son-in-law just retired from Special Forces, and it is no joke on being a family affair. Half of the free world will never know your sacrifices as a family. God bless you all!

    🛑🛑🛑 IMPORTANT 🛑🛑🛑
One little note about the purse key combination... Get a carabiner to connect the purse to your key ring so you can take it off before starting your car because you should not have all that weight on your keys while they are in your ignition. It is very bad for your ignition to have all that weight on your keys and it could do damage to your ignition. TAKE THE PURSE OFF OF THE KEY RING BEFORE STARTING YOUR CAR. I've learned this through experience. I used to have a ridiculous amount of cute little key rings on my car keys and I ended up having to have my ignition repaired.

When my daughter was little she would eat breakfast before we were out the door . To keep her clothes clean I would put a huge t shirt on top of her clothes, after she ate I took off the huge t shirt. I kept the huge t shirt near the table.

If I'm at the grocery store & someone in front of me is taking forever or looking for exact change, etc, they'll often apologize for holding me up. I always tell them I'm a Mom of 4 & I managed to get out of the house without them so this is like a vacation & to take their time.
And we keep a "sock bin" in our living room. It's a mesh pop up hamper thing & it has saved my sanity. Bonus is we found that mesh bin at Dollar Tree.

I've raised four kids, and it took me a long time to figure out that however many clothes, toys, or whatever I thought I needed, the number I actually needed was less than HALF that number.
Clothes: just enough to last between laundry days
Toys: only toys that were multi-purpose, like blocks and Legos. Avoid anything battery operated. Kids are actually overwhelmed by having too many toys.
Gadgets and gizmos: they always underperformed. I would fall for things that promised to solve some problem, only to be disappointed.
The less stuff you have to manage, the more time you have to spend with your kids and the less stressed you'll be. More joy all the way around.

My alternative to the wristlet is backpacks! I have one for my stuff, since I also carry my planner, bullet journal, and the pens, markers, and daily planner stamps that I need. If we are going anywhere that my kiddos will quickly get bored, they have their own backpacks. Having the potty-training child carry their own supplies was *such* a game changer. LOL No one wants to carry their own poopy drawers everywhere they go.

Keep a mesh bag or little trash can for the dirty socks near door too so clean and dirty socks are all dealt with where shoes go on…and where they come off! On laundry day you just grab receptacle and dump in machine!

As an elementary teacher, you are right on point with the games and toys. If two kids can make a mess, can you imagine what 25 kids can do? Zip Lock bags and identical containers were my best friends. There’s never a lot of storage in a classroom so having universal “vestibules” are crucial! 😉🤪 Don’t worry, I do this all the time. Hey, you’re smart enough to know it’s not the right word. 💕 ~ Linda

Expanding on hack number 1…. Also keep your toddler/babies clothes downstairs. Target sells great stylish plastic storage bin/drawers that are perfect for this. Keeping kids clothes downstairs is a total sanity saver if you have stairs! Plus if you live in CA or another earthquake prone area you don’t have to worry about a super heavy dresser falling on your toddler!

My guy is 14 and I too did most of these ideas when he was little. I am going to use the socks by the door idea but for the reverse. My son comes home and the first thing he does is whips off his socks!! 😤then he just leaves them there for all to see😡. And now that we have a puppy those socks are now scattered all over the house and many are lost and pair-less. So I am placing an empty bin for his socks by the door. A sock hamper!! 😊Thank you for the inspiration 🥰

    • @Elizabeth-490
      @Elizabeth-490 2 года назад +2

I’ve always had sock hampers… it speeds up color sorting and I don’t find a black sock got in my light clothes load by mistake turning everything grey. It also solved the puppy problem (lidded, step can with no lip for puppy to grasp) and my little basketball player found her room stopped stinking once she started putting dirty socks in a hanging mesh bag- air getting to the socks stops the bacteria (the source of stink) from growing and they were able to air out and dry in the bag.

I legit just sat in a parking lot behind walgreens yesterday. I'm so glad i'm not the only one. The sock hack is MONEY! I will be implementing that one immediately. For folding shirts, I honestly just fold them in half and place them in a bin, because they won't let me fold clothes. Ever.

I stopped folding my kids clothes. I tried everything to keep them actually folded in the drawers but they all failed. Now I hang their “public” clothes and everything else is sorted into a drawer and now my kids can put away their own clothes and I don’t feel like having a melt down when the nice organized and neatly folded clothes get pulled out and shoved back into the drawer. Both kids (10 and 5) have their own laundry basket and when I do a load of laundry, I sort their clothes into their baskets and they are responsible for putting them away. It has worked so amazing for us.

Now, that's a nice crib mattress. I'll keep it in mind for the next time I have to buy a nice baby gift :) I've tried those cute bins (canvas or woven) for shelves in our teenager's room and I must say I think I prefer your idea of all clear(ish) bins with lids in the same size/style. You know which bin stores what item and they all stack together with very little wasted space. A pretty label to make them stylish and the teen should love them!

The sock one is so real! I have a cube organizer by my front door that all children's socks go in. And another bin just flew wool socks for winter for all of us. My children can also easily get their own socks when they want to go outside.
Your toy organization is a whole 'nother level friend. All our toys get shoved in some cure bins and then put away in a cabinet. I'm not organizing their toys like that lol but they also have to clean their toys. As long as my floor is mostly clean, I'm happy

A tip for labelling puzzles - if you have say a Thomas The Tank puzzle write on each piece & bag TT 1 & place in the bag. Then if you have another Thomas puzzle number it TT2 etc. (It's easier to do this when the puzzles are put together)
This way if a stray piece is missing from the bag you'll know which bag it belongs to.

    • @bethheerten1132
      @bethheerten1132 2 года назад

Julie, we did that years ago when I had little kids. We labeled each piece as we first took them out of the box always using different colors for separate puzzles. That way our kids could help label the pieces (while practicing their letters) and if it was not quite as legible as I would like the color helped identify it.

Well I AM a parent and I tried this organization method. It was for ME to better manage an aspect of my OCD....to say the least, it was a MAJOR fail for my kids. 😞 I'm happy it works for her though. Those toys were left to collect dust. They too thrive off seeing the vibrant colors and shapes from their games/toys. So, now I got new containers for garage organization! Lol 🤷🏾‍♀️

Sooo much great info - washable mattress, who knew? I've kept a few classic games in our main room and spontaneous game-offs happen whenever two or more are gathered...but to your point, these aren't Legos with 100 parts and pieces and NO box. We have original boxes for Scrabble, Monopoly, Uno, Boggle and Trivial Pursuit, and the young'uns go for Candyland, Twister, Operation, and checkers. The boxes hit a nostalgic feeling b/c they've been with us on so many adventures for so many years. Comes with age maybe, lol. I know I tossed out double this # of 'games' and certainly Legos(!) though, so I can see the benefit these days when kids and families are overwhelmed with so much stuff.

(I keep most of our games in plastic storage, like you, b/c they nest so beautifully on our shelves.) So maybe find another family to pass those along to when kids age out. Of course, this could be regional.

Buy Nothing groups would be great for passing along games and puzzles! My neighbourhood has a kid/baby specific one too.

Love your mesh bag and container idea!! I resorted to ziplock bags when the box broke .. but just starting there knowing you’ll end up there is such a good idea and we have bins but also a great idea to use them to rotate through! Still don’t know why I don’t have socks by the shoes either 🤷🏻‍♀️ great tips!

I watch all of your videos and I remember watching so many before getting our son! Thank you so kuch for all the tips! I remember you had a video on the nursery and also on how to make sure it is totally dark. You had something on your curtains that could attach to the wall, magnetic maybe?

Amen on the socks near the door; I also figured that one out. But I didn't know about the knotting up of the fabric baby carrier. We use MoBy wrap. Thank you! Thoroughly loved this video and I look forward to seeing your completed renovation!

I have a variation of the wallet hack.
I bought a case for my phone that magnetizes to a wallet. I then took the wristlet off the wallet and replaced it with a lanyard. I keep my keys, wallet, and phone around my neck instead of my wrist.
I found that keeping it on my wrist got in the way a lot and was prone to being dropped/left somewhere. Putting it on my neck makes it less problematic. I even got a small pop It and put that on there too so that I always have a toy easily on hand for my toddler.
It is smaller than yours, but I make up for that with a scrunchie that has storage inside. I keep my flatter items in the wallet (nail file, eyeglass cleaner, etc) and the bulkier things (lotion, a bluetooth headphone, spare hair elastics for my toddler, etc) in the scrunchie.
That's what works for me. Just throwing it out there in case anyone wants to do it too. :-)

Hi from the UK. as a grandmother each time I buy Lego, Mobilo, and magnetic building blocks and the like. I buy mesh laundry bags so they can hang the bags on a row of pegs to store, easy access and quick to put away.

I LOVE your videos!!! You are such an intelligent young woman. I am so much older than you and you taught me SO much. Thank You. One question ...when you were showing us the mattress at the end of the video, you had glitter nail polish on; which nail polish remover do you use to remove the polish. I know that glitter polish is hard to remove , do you have a trick or hack to do it? Arlene

My twist on two of these:
Those hard plastic crayon boxes are perfect for playing cards and game tokens. They fit a double pack of cards perfectly!
I didn't like the mesh bags for my games, they didn't stack well in my game center. Now I have my game boards on one shelf and all the labeled card and token boxes neatly stacked above.
I get my son fully dressed for the day then put a cozy bathrobe over his outfit. He loves being cozy in the morning and if he spills his outfit stays clean. I do the same for me in my work clothes to prevent him from spilling on me...or me spilling my tea down my blouse.
