    I'm much more casual now that I'm a widow living alone, but when I was raising my kids I had 3x5 cards on which I had written menus. I had my main dish, my vegetable etc. Each one was a balanced meal. On the back of each card I had all the ingredients that I needed. That way before I did my shopping I could pull out the 3x5 cards I wanted to use that week and just look at the back to see what I needed. It saved me tons of time and brain power and as I started teaching my kids to cook, it made it a lot easier for them, too.

    Need routine and consistency!!!
    1. Wake up at the same time every day.
    2. Write a to-do list.
    3. Prioritize (use Covey's urgent vs. important quadrant)
    4. Create time and space to be organized every day (review calendar, make lists, schedule tasks, etc.).
    5. Declutter your wallet.
    6. Give everything you own a place.
    7. Use routines.
    8. Prepare outfit the night before.
    9. Meal planning.
    10. Clean your kitchen sink at night.
    Great list!!! I'd like to hear if you have any 'year end' tasks to 'finish' up the year with, for example, shred documents, plan major goals for the following year, etc.

      @marilynndesilva7620 2 года назад +9

      I prefer a seasonal "reset." It's more natural than the new year, middle of winter routine of making resolutions that seem to fizzle out by February. The only thing that needs my attention in January is garden planning and going through old seeds, buying new, etc. As for most organizing tasks, for me it makes more sense to tackle them before the full frenzy of the holiday season is upon us. I particularly like to go through clothes, gift wrap*, books, and other things in good condition to donate to our local thrift shop in time for cash-strapped people to buy as gifts. Then in spring I gather the warm weather stuff to donate. *Re gift wrap: I recently got rid of all my wrapping paper and most of the ribbons in favor of using gift bags that I can just put the item in and top off with tissue paper and a garnish of curling ribbon. Bingo. Done. No more trying to wrap an awkward shaped gift and saving odd scraps of gift wrap!

    I needed this today! I suffer from depression and for the last year it has become unbearable. I lost all motivation. I don't sleep at night at all but sleep during the day. There has even been times when I have slept for 20+ hours simply because I didn't want to deal with the day. My house became a disaster zone and my poor husband did all he could (while working 10 hour days) to pick up some of the slack. It has been horrible. The strain on my marriage has been horrible. It all came to a head when, for the 1st time ever, I didn't want to decorate for Christmas. I realized that I was self sabotaging and I needed to regain the simple structures that I had let go. Excellent video! I'm a fella and for some reason this came up on my suggested videos!? Lol 😅 However it's EXACTLY what I needed to see, being I'm single now for the last 3 years, I'm struggling with the house stuff especially after having suffered a major flood downstairs! So I've SERIOUSLY got to 1. Sort the house 2. Keep it sorted! 3. And my days! I always worked in the financial markets, so ALWAYS been a massive OCD everything spot on dotting the i's crossing the t's and working STUPIDLY long hours was ALWAYS up ridiculously early getting home late and very little sleep! But last couple of years, had a few things go wrong/taken a few hits and my once orderly life has turned into can't remember or get motivated to even be organised! I got the list on the phone and it just gets pushed back day after day week after week and I've even let EXTREMELY IMPORTANT things slip past deadlines that have left me in more cr@p! As I was so overwhelmed with the house and all the stuff that had accumulated that I had to sort out it literally gave me a breakdown! Anyhow not to sound negative this is a positive post as this is one of the best organisational videos I've seen.. (not sure the Eisenhower thing would work for me ) but definitely a take on/adaption on that for sure maybe a long term medium term and shirt term/urgent list or something like that! Have to say my productivity has gone from 200% to 0% in last couple of years! Decided this week I HAVE To take charge of this rubbish, sort the house and turn this around (having a spine op that went wrong in 2019 didn't help none being single either as that's what started the house becoming a mess being laid up/unable to do much)
    This video was excellent and just what I needed!!
    Sorry for the essay! Just to say it doesn't just apply to women, as being bit of an old-school English, "man's man" 💪😅 so to speak ( even though I'm not old) lol 😅 This is REALLY helpful!
    Great stuff!! And I admire your organisation aswell!
    Cheers and Best wishes from London England 👍❤️💪😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    I'm a complete and unorganized slob. I've tried so many different cleaning programs books and online groups to become a cleaner more organized person and ive just never been able to stick to anything longer then a week. Last month I watched your 3 things video. And I said well Ill try to clean my sink every night and just focus on that. I dont force myself to be perfect about it, but I at least work on it each night. I have to say its been over a month now since I started and its helped me so much. Having a reasonably straightened kitchen every morning has really helped inspire me to tackle the rest of my house as well. I even bought a roomba to help with the work load. The clean sink rule really has inspired me to get my house so much better. I've still got a long way to go but I so beyond appreciate that you've opened a doorway of sorts to help me get my house under control.

      People do not realize how debilitating those two things are on a household! I also have those diagnoses, and I shall make a LIST about that! 😋
      1. You want to do something simple such as walking into the kitchen to eat;
      2. on the way there you notice a cluster of objects with grease on them that you didn't leave out, it has to be something another family member left, now your adhd and ocd has flipped your switch.
      3. One hour later you haven't eaten, you're getting grouchy, that family member walks by......
      4. You totally have to inform him or her that you have spent an hour cleaning; let's be honest, it's his (not him or her lol) mess, the other adhd person in the house!
      5. Now there is a heated discussion about how he can't put things where they go and you can't believe it had grease all over it.
      6. You're hungry and at that point you could care less about his side of the story and you grab an unhealthy snack like item.
      7. Thank God my kitchen sink is clean lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!😇😇😇😇😇
      8. Then you start beating yourself up and feeling guilty about bringing up his mess, bc you're at home and he works, so why not clean up after him? You apologize, and beat yourself up even more bc you can't stay on task.
      9. Meanwhile back at the kitchen counter, your "breakfast" sits there uneaten.....
      10. Now you're just drinking coffee and watching bfc and life is good!

    I follow so much of this advice on a daily basis. When I make my list and then I find I did something that was not on the list, I will actually take the time to write it on the list and cross it off. Psychologically it makes me feel productive, like I'm getting more done. For years, I have also laid out my outfit the night before. One less thing to think about in the morning. I love all my routines, but do allow myself to take advantage of spontaneity. My routines really keep me on track and sane during my busy days. Great video!

    I have a regular sleeping pattern from 4:30 to 11:30. It works really well for me. I'm a teacher and I startet to work at night school, bc I just couldn't wake up early for regular school. I was SO productive in Uni when I could generate my own schedule. I was barely graduating High School, bc I was always tired. So I once again became tired all the time when I started to teach at a regular school. I couldn't think of anything other than going home and sleep again. Evening school was the best decision I made in my grown-up life. Some people are just not made to wake up early. It has nothing to do with creating habits. Sometimes you just have to listing to what your body needs.

      I think routines do work in that case too. You just leave out the "get up at the same time everyday" bit. But even through the clock shows different times, your routine could be consistent. Like, waking up, airing the room, making the bed, doing some exercise, eating breakfast for example. You know, doing the very same things in the very same order. Of course, this example is an ideal one, for a lot of people, the wake up routine most likely starts with drinking coffee and checking out social media, I just wanted to give a more healthy example.

    I spend Friday evening searching for new recipes for the next week since I shop on Saturdays. We have 2 meals that are the same every week- Taco 🌮 Tuesday and Pizza Saturday nights. For pizza night for my husband and I , we have a Cauliflower pizza that I make. I am OCD with my sink ! Thanks for the other tips. I'm the worst at to do lists!!

    Your ideas are great and easy to do when you're already organized. However, I spent 6 months over the last year in the hospital and evacuating from a wildfire. Just when I thought I could get back to normal, something would happen. Now I have to recover from a septic tank blowout, which will probably be another month. So, I am just now getting all my papers in my den put away (or recycled or shredded). I am now down to 1 pile of things. Next will be my closets, then the garage, attic, basement, storage building. I work until my brain is too tired to go on or I have to do something else, then I make a note and continue on the next day.
    I do have a routine of saying my prayers every morning because if I put God first, then everything falls into place. I follow up with taking my medications. I'm trying to plan other routines and I know I'll get there -- unless there's a light at the end of the tunnel that's an oncoming train.

    These tips are going to be a big help but one thing I struggle with is a routine with sleeping. My husband and I are night shifters so my household works a bit differently when it comes to that. I think having a routine at least for my toddler would help tremendously. However, I will do my best to get my toddler on a sleep schedule because it is so needed!

    I have been in retail most of my career. There's rarely a chance that "regular schedule" happens if you want to be a team leader/boss. I have noticed that whomever is closing, seems to be opening the following morning. That is udderly stupid but I have seen it in restaurants, stores, and even as a merchandiser.
    I have a set schedule. It really helps me. I'm not a leader 😆

    Your tips are always so helpful! I've already learned so much from you, like having a weekly/daily planner and To-Do list, and it's helped me so much! I'm no longer a headless chicken :).
    Putting out my outfit the day before - that's something that hasn't worked that well for me... What I want to wear (when I go to work at least, when I'm only out to run errands I Grab a sweater and a pair of jeans and there's your outfit 😄) depends a lot on what mood I'm in, so it's often happened that I put out an outfit the night before, and the next morning I looked at it and simply wasn't feeling it at all. The best method for me is to think of some outfit ideas the evening before and then See what I like the next morning. And I always have some failsafe options that I only have to pull out and I know it'll bei find.

      Me too. . .if my laundry is kept up there's no need to lay out tomorrows outfit since all of them are available. In the mornings i just grab whats appropriate for the day & weather.
      When the laundry gets way behind THAT'S when i have to plan ahead.

    • @patwagner9308
      @patwagner9308 2 года назад +2

      Same here. I base what I"m going to wear each day on what I feel like wearing that day , the weather, & if I'm going to be running errands. Same way for me when it comes to meals. Meal planning would never work. I get hungry for certain things & if I eat something else, it doesn't even taste good. I don't enjoy it. I need to eat what I'm hungry for right then. I don't even know the day before what that might be ! But I have some prepared foods in the freezer & a well-stocked food supply so a meal can be put together quickly....& at sale prices usually.

    Ahhh I love your take on life hacks! I always seem to have at least 1 really amazing take-away from every video :) That matrix to prioritize things just rocked my world! I'm cool with listing things out and making schedules/plans, but sometimes I get bogged down with what to do first, or how to prioritize things (especially when I work full time from home AND run a household LOL) This matrix idea is going to be incorporated into my daily life now!

    • @briannab5296
      @briannab5296 2 года назад +1

      Krys .. i have tried every method in the world to prioritize my to do lists and what has helped the most is after writing out my to-do's i use a yellow highlighter to mark the 3 most important or urgent things that must get done. Then when i complete them i cross them out with a purple highliter, then use the yellow one to mark the next 3 most important things and so on.
      I'm going to try the matrix idea but seems like it would require a lot of shifting to-do's around since some tasks become more urgent and some urgent ones become not so important after awhile.

    You have started with Flylady and expanded/made it better! I love that. And forming habits is like having your own personal assistant. If you are not expending energy thinking of what to do next is it really work? A lot of what one does in “autopilot” (habit) is like meditation. Calming, soothing and balancing. And one habit leading to others is so pleasing! Thank you!

    I’ve always heard about the sleep thing but at 61 do you think I go to bed every night at the same time and get up every morning at the same time…even on weekends? 😳😬 Um that would be a hard no! 🤣😂 I’ve never ever been a morning person. I’ve never went to bed early unless I was real sick. Lol
    Probably explains why I trudge through life half asleep but oh well. 🤣🤣
    I need to start meal planning though. No kids at home anymore and it’s so hard to cook for just the two of us so we don’t eat very healthy. I just haven’t found the motivation to do it. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎅🏼
