  • Does your to do list usually feel never-ending? Do you make to do lists but somehow often fail to execute them?
I used to feel the same way. Trying to manage my business, my life as a mom, and keep up with being a homeowner, I felt like I wore so many hats and couldn't keep up. But, through a little trial and error but I finally learned a fairly simple method that has helped me IMMENSELY in tackling my to do lists in a way that’s manageable, simple and practicable, and most importantly, sustainable.
As a mom I need my to do list method to be EASY, and it needs to allow for flexibility of life with kids. I think this method will help you too!

I can't stop laughing (at myself) because as I am listening and watching you fill out the time blocks, I am imagining my own time blocks scheduling 2 hours for morning coffee, 45 minutes quiet bathroom time, 1 hour playing with the dogs, 2 hours catching up on DVR shows, 2 hours to watch more "organization, minimalism and decluttering" videos, yawn.... time for a nap. 🤣🤦‍♀️

I read a book and she called it a CAN notebook…CAN meaning catch all notebook. So you could write anything in it to remember to write it into your schedule later. I’m a SAHM who doesn’t really have anything else going on so it doesn’t really work for me because I don’t have anything to write down. I should block out times to exercise or other random things when I have time though!

I like this idea. I can do step 1 well, but I still stink at the scheduling part. I have a question about you circadian rhythm routine. I know you get up at 5:15 every day. How does your body handle daylight savings time and how do you adjust for it? I have a pretty set wake up and go to bed time, but daylight savings kills me!

If anyone wants to put this idea to use in a paper planner, I've been using a Planner Pad and I love it. It has three sections that funnel down in detail. The top is basically your brain dump, with categories you can assign, then a list of to-dos for the day, then the time blocks. It's the only thing that really works for my brain, plus I love to cross things off on paper!

Hi Kallie, Ross and Rachel were definitely NOT on a break.... I am great at the brain dump, great at scheduling, but when I get to the part of execution.... I don't want to do that particular thing. Same with meal planning. I can make a delicious meal plan but when it comes to making that particular dish when I come home from work, I don't feel like eating that dish. Any insight on what this self-sabotage is about? BTW, I love watching your videos and the highlight of my Sunday mornings is getting up, pouring my coffee and have my alone time enjoying your humour and insight!

Hi, Treena. If you don't mind me stepping in- our brain consists of three "parts" and planning is made when neocortex takes charge. It's logical and performs controlling functions. But not all the brain is so well-behaved. There are moments or even full hours (haha) when our emotions or basic needs prevail. So it's useful to look inside yourself at that moment and try to understand what is your genuine need right now. After that need is met or at least recognized, it is easier to stick to the plan. ( yeah, I am a life-coach and also the mother of two ADHD children I had to learn how this stuff worked)

I've begun giving my kids to do lists. They are six and seven, and first of all they are motivated to read because of this, and secondly they like feeling so accomplished. And depending how long it takes them often I get lenient on extras, like they can take a toy to school or an extra bed time story. Every morning they can almost independently do what they need to, and they feel responsible for themselves. Every afternoon/evening they know what needs to happen. And there is so much less fighting me on each and every thing! I used to gnash my teeth about how they would whine whenever it was time to brush their teeth or whatever. But I think it was just because it felt endless to them. I get it, my list is so long it actually is endless, but oh well.

Great content, Kallie. Thank you!! When something comes to mind I need to get on my list, I find it helpful to grab my phone (which is usually with me no matter where I am - like driving down the road etc) and speak the reminder into the Braintoss App which is connected to my email. Later, when I have a time I can go through email and get all the "to do's" down on paper. It's been an amazing help. I hope you'll try it and share it.

I started doing the brain dump a few years ago. Tried meditation, tried Journaling and nothing worked to stop my brain from going, and going, and going. Then , I discovered brain dumps.
I find it easier to sit down every week or 2 for 10 min (set my phone timer and left it where I couldn't look at it for 10 min). I just start writing and not in any particular order or even on lined paper (just randomly anywhere on the paper).
After 10 min when the alarm goes off I then organize it into a to do list and denote level of importance to things.

Even if they were on a break, he still shouldn't have slept with someone 45 minutes after they had a fight.
I'm awesome at using my google calendar but not at using the task list or the google keep app. At work I have a weekly handwritten brain dump list that I just pick things off of but it would be helpful to assign days/times to the tasks.

I get too stressed when I try to schedule tasks. Plus I'm older than you and sometimes run out of energy. So I have a "brain dump" master list that I keep adding to (and rewrite when it's got a lot crossed off so it takes up less space), and every day I look through it to pick items I hope to do that day. Then I add on the things that I also need to do that day like what I'm making for lunch and dinner, errands I have to do, laundry, cleaning tasks, my shower and exercise, and health goals. That's been working for me pretty well.

I find my Journaling is a brain dump. I use my notes app for those things pop in my head. I put time blocking pages, meal planning too, in page protectors in my binder. I use wet erase markers to plan. When done with my day or week, water and walla, blank and ready to go. I limit apps because I have had lack of memory on my phone. I just did a big clearing of cache and data on my phone. It extends time for needing a new phone, saving money by less replaces and less trash but keeping things longer. Unlike my laptop that my pig hit the screen with his hoof breaking the screen.

The question of if they were on a break or not is moot (or moo?) because even if they were on a break (which is totally different than a *break up*) who would want to get back with a guy who hooked up with somebody else mere hours after leaving you?

Usually I like these videos. But if it were really that easy all you have to do is schedule it and then you’d get it done hardly anybody would have a to do list that they can’t get done. So very optimistic approach.

Excellent video! Sundays are always my schedule day - I make my personal and work schedule for the week and take a look at my quarterly goals and how I'm doing with them. I always keep a running brain dump too and take a lot at it on Sundays to see what I can tackle next with it.

Kallie there are so many To Do List apps. Exactly which one do you use?

    • @carolburbee8650
      @carolburbee8650 2 года назад

Kallie I use Trello. I can move tasks from ‘to do’ (ongoing brain dump) to ‘scheduled’ (I have a plan for it) to ‘complete’ (feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the week seeing the list!) I love Trello because I archive the tasks at the end of the week and can search for them later if I need to confirm/recall when I did something.
