When you said "You will always feel groggy and awful in the morning" that was eye opening for me. I assumed the people that have been waking up early for so long found it so easy and effortless. It gives me the encouragement I needed to try again. Thank you! My kids and I wake up at the same time in the morning for school and I am going to try getting up just 30 minutes before they do to get things started.

It makes such a big difference to have a minute before they get up! I get up at 530 and it’s never easy but I always feel so much better knowing I’m not rushing into the day the minute I get out of bed! Good luck!

Same! I was like oh, duh! So today for the first time (maybe ever), I refused to hit snooze. I was sleepy and a little groggy during those first 8 mins, but before the snooze went off, I was awake enough not to fall back to sleep. What a game changer!

What I do is at minimum I got 5 min of something done & if I have the bandwidth to do more I will if not that's good too. It's just frees me up. All the best ☀️🌻🐝🦋

This will sound silly, but if you pull out your dishwasher drawers one at a time and empty each one starting from the bottom, you can eliminate alot of drips on your clean dishes. One of my pet peeves is having to dry my silverware and plates before I can put them away each morning. Hope this is a useful tip.

I start my dishwasher once I get home with plenty of time for them to finish before bed. When they're done, I shake the top rack and then the bottom rack so any residual water falls down and leave the dishwasher cracked overnight to completely air-dry. Then, clean-and DRY!-dishes I can quickly put away in the morning.

This is brilliant, thank you! I’ve watched so many “morning routine” videos, but the problem is I am completely a night owl, mornings are always a struggle for me, & these long complex morning routines that require me to get up hours earlier in order to achieve it just aren’t realistic for me. But this is some small steps that I can add in without changing my wake up time, that allow me to start my day off on a better foot, but still recognise that I’m at my best in the evening not in the morning!

I am a night owl too... no matter how much sleep I had, if I need to get up before 7.00 am I feel tired the whole day... the book "Power of when" helped me a lot, because nearly no morning person can really imagine the struggle. So the part of making the to-do list for the day / journaling is part of my night-Routine, I try to prepare as much as I can the night before to start the day as easy as possible.

Today, I got right up at 4:50, made my coffee and had a half hour to myself; so I extended my workout instead of cutting it short. I have anxiety that I have to take meds for, and it’s hard to stop a mental spiral, which severely affects my day to day life when I’m having a bad season. I’m in the process of learning how to rip my mind from the anxiety driving thoughts to something else that is positive rather than the lies in my head. This is making me think I need to write out a mantra or some scriptures to read in the morning.

I move my alarm (phone) to where I have to get out of bed to turn it off. Once I'm up I keep moving to the kitchen to drink water and get coffee. When thought comes to get back to bed I think, well I'm up and so I should just keep moving. And I know how great I feel once I've got my coffee and my morning time, me time, read Bible, do some Bible study, pray, think about my day ( organize). I get off to a calm, organized, spiritual start and I feel really good about it. I've been doing this for years! You're right, it never feels easy, but it's definitely easier having created this habit. I love it. I love my morning time before the hectic day begins, but I feel like things are under control and I enjoy life so much more because I'm no longer playing catch up all day. Great videos. Thanks!

Loved some of the tips and will definitely thing about including them in my morning routine. But one thing I was missing from this video (also from lots of others like it) is GET ENOUGH SLEEP. That to me is the number one thing to establish a good morning routine. You said everyone feels awful when the alarm rings. True but there are definitely levels to it. I used to feel like death every morning. Sometimes it was so bad I just wanted to cry. That's because I would sleep 6h on average per day. Lots of people do this and it is way too little.
8h minimum and if you can try and get 9 or even 10. I usually get 8h but now and then manage 8 1/2 or 9 during the week, simply by going to bed earlier and putting away my goddamn phone. And you know what, when the alarm rings I feel ... ok. Happy even sometimes. Ready to start the day. And that's how you establish a morning routine that really helps you relax and tackle the day.

One thing I love is waking up to music and not bouncing out of bed. The music creeps into my brain and wakes me up and I can lay in bed and listen to a song or two. It’s gentle and sets up my day for a less hurry scurry feeling. Some days it takes one song to get out of bed, some days it’s like 5. Usually 2 or 3. I pick different artists and genres every day. Currently loving Tom Petty or 40s music.

Great tips! I learned a lot. I use the “future me” tip a ton. I’m not a morning person but due to kids’ schedules I’m forced to function before the sun is up. I do a lot of prep in the evening when I feel most alert to ensure that I don’t have to do a lot of thinking in the first couple of hours of my day. I’d still prefer to wake up later, but at least this way I don’t start the day frustrated and stressed.
On the other hand, my husband gets up at 4 every morning without an alarm and feels amazing instantly. He hops into the shower singing and whistling. It makes me FURIOUS. 🤣

I did not wake up to an alarm as a child. I did it as an adolescent to be "cool" and rarely do it as an adult. As a high school and university student, waking up to an alarm sent my heart racing and increased my anxiety. Sleep experts advise not to wake up to an alarm as it interferes with natural wake-up rhythms. I will set the alarm for early morning appointments and classes. I usually wake up before the alarm goes off. I use the alarm as a reminder for me to get out of bed and get ready. Otherwise, I wake up naturally. I will have early university courses to wake up for soon. The alarm will only be a reminder for me to get ready to leave for school. I spend hours on my morning routine before I leave the house.

As someone who's lived in an apartment with *no* dishwasher for nearly four years now, I can't tell you how helpful it's been to incorporate washing the dishes as part of my nightly routine! It's to the point where I *rarely* have to force myself to do it, because I know Tomorrow Morning Me will be grateful that I won't have to focus on a cluttered kitchen sink.
Some nights, yeah, I slip up every now and then. But then I just make washing the dishes the next day as part of my morning routine. It also helps wake me up a little bit because I'm moving around the kitchen, but it's an activity where I'm not forced to use my sleepy brain right off the bat. Then I get a sense of accomplishment before I prep for the rest of the day.
Thank you so much for such helpful tips, Kallie!

What time do you go to bed? I feel that is a major relevant part that most people leave out , in correlation to waking up.
Also, why do many of us feel like we have to stay up late? What's late? What's realistic? Thanks for any input.

I agree - I rail against this pressure to be a morning person and all the "tips" about how not to follow my own best schedule for me. Who the eff cares as long as it works? I really resent the "oh you get up at x hour and so you must be LAYYYZEEEE" - despite the fact that you might stay up 4 hours longer at the end of the day and get a boatload of stuff done when they don't see you doing it.

@@leoren2685 I get you! I have to force myself to sleep, I aim for midnight. Unfortunately I wake up A LOT during night to get my needed hours is hard to measure. Some of the time I know what I was dreaming about and they always cause panic/anxiety attacks. THUS I'm not really getting sleep. So I haven't been able to find a reasonable hour to wake up. (I don't have a set schedule because of this)... I feel like I'm wasting a lot of my day. :/
BUT for those who don't have this. You must experiment based off of your internal clock or what time you NEED to be up so you can get ready for work or what have you. Some people function off of 5-9 hours. It's entirely up to you to find where you are on that scale and adjust your bedtime to align with it. So say your number is 7 and you go to bed normally around 1am. Getting up at 9am won't make you late for anything, then you can go to bed at 1am! However, keep in mind that only works on night owls. Others sometimes have to bed earlier than their # because getting to sleep is difficult. Or in my case... Hard to stay asleep. And sleep only starts once you are in deep sleep which takes roughly 45minutes after you've passed out.
So it's entirely based on your #, your schedule and adjust for any sleep issues.

Now that I wake up with the alarm, but refuse to move until 6:30-7 I'm ready to go within 30 minutes when we're finished with breakfast and morning devo's, so I feel like those "wasted" 30 minutes save me an hour or two of trying to force myself awake.

I suffer from chronic depression and the first thing I think when I wake up, no matter how and when, is that I am an awful person and no one need og want me. I always feel like I should just stay in bed and die. I really don't feel like living my life in any way.
So all those good tips doesn't really work for everyone. I have days where I litterally can't leave my bed. My own thinking is holding me down.
I have found out that having a job and something to get up to helps me. Especially when I have a job where I feel I actually do good.
When I have that I can convince myself every morning that I am good enough and that I should get up. But it always takes me at least 15 minutes to shut up those bad thoughts.

Love your videos and how much you research for them. One thing you didn’t touch on though is the importance of getting enough sleep. Along with the early wake up should be an early bedtime! I’m also wondering if you are getting enough sleep if after years of getting up at 5:15 you still need an alarm. Our society seems to really value productivity over everything else, and I know there are some people who can function fine on 6hrs of sleep but most adults need between 7-9hrs. For me I find I need 7.5 -8 hrs or it doesn’t matter what kind of morning routine I adopt I am walking around like a zombie all day!

Depends on how long you personally need to sleep for. Not everyone is recharged at 7-8 hours. Some 9 or even 5. Find yours and go to bed accordingly. It takes roughly 45 minutes after you've passed out for you to reach deep sleep and that's when your time starts. So keep that in mind. ^^

Getting out of bed is one of the hardest things for me. Not because I’m tired, but because I just don’t have much motivation and would rather wither away under my covers.
Now the messy sink. My mom hates waking up to dishes and tells me every night to wash any dishes I may have in my room. So what I’ve been doing for a while now is leaving a dish or to in my room, picturing how annoyed my mother would be if she saw it, and would get up just so I can wash it. So far, it’s been working 😂

👌🏾Truly believe...The hardest part of getting out of bed, is knowing you have to tackle something/someone you dread! "Snoozers" tend to feel better when they are getting up (even earlier😉)for a vacation flight🤷🏾‍♀️ My alarm is across the room, so I have to get up! I grew up snoozing so now I have two 5 minute snoozes but first for getting up stretching, opening curtains, and making my bed! Second...for "me" time of brushing teeth, getting oven preheated for breakfast etc...before having to wake up the kids! The feeling of accomplishment before anyone else is up, is such a boost👌🏾❤🙏🏾
