It didn't matter as it was just part of the mix that made British football great. Look at it now, you could play snooker on them they are so perfectly perfect. I presume they don't wash their strips as mud is banned. Boring.
The goal by arsenals Radford against Liverpool at Anfield was one of the smoothest pieces of skill you will ever see, and to accomplish it on a bog of a pitch is even more noteworthy. Imagine some of today's players being asked to play in those conditions? Don't think so
Edward o Grady, exactley what Iwas going to comment. The player`s were slip sliding all over the place, like a scating rink!........................................
The pitches are a like a junkies garden, the pace of the game aswell, kinda to be expected in an era where players would regularly sink 8 pints after a win, and smoke. The balls seem heavier too (quite possibly were!) A golden age but the modern games far more exciting and pacey. Only VAR breaks are killing the momentum..The "shoudla have been a penalty" and "he was offside" pub talking points are somewhat gone, with VAR not being 100% perfect, but I guess the game is being played as close to the rules as possible.
I know Man United fans are hypocrites saying 13 Premier League's blah blah blah and discounting their 7 first divisions as inferior to the above. However it is the other way around. Football was tougher particularly in the 1970s. Just because they didn't win it in the 1970s doesn't make it inferior they were shit and that is why they didn't win it.
this was when the f a cup was the greatest cup compition in the world steeped in history one of the greatest players to never play in a final was george best the f. a. as messed there greatest asset up starting with wembley bobby moore did not lift the world cup at that stadium george best did not score the 2nd goal in 68 in that stadium they should have built round the twin towers final only at wembley
Where are part 4 of 1972/73?
When football was really worth watching.
Awesome upload. Thank you.
Priceless thumbnail. Brutal.
It was so much a better game back then , true fans , proper men , no Nancies . Great stadiums. Proper scraps . Awful winters , great times
No arse bandits like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Working class game no politics or PC box ticking
@@oldschoolcockneylover8138 yeh plenty of racism and violence in the stands
Bill Shankly & Brian Clough total LEGENDS!
I had forgotten how awful were the pitches back then.

Terrible, ruined the game.
Players never dived in those days

7:19 - absolutely classic David Coleman. Belting goal, but all he needs to say is "One-nil!" Understated but emphatic.
Of course that Thumbnail pic (why is it called that? I'm 68!) can only be Derby County Baseball Ground & in Sept! but gave you great matches & skill.
Gosh man. Huge crowds.
Scotland v England at Hampden in mid 1970s had 134,000! & no one died.
The game changed so much when grass was invented.
Allan Clarke had to be one of the smoothest, silkiest players and finishers that ever graced the game. Pity he never won more caps for England!
Can never forget how bad the baseball ground was, more sand than grass 😂
Wonder how the foreign primadonnas of today would fare on those mud bath pitches. :/
They wouldn't ...
2, shut up! 4, 5, 6 up, keep your head down do your bloody exercise! haha. Shanks
Shanks the messiah
That was Reuben Bennett you heard not Shanks.
David Coleman with his usual commentary: "1-0"
Liverpools defence was shocking
Why did they plough that field before they played the game. No wonder they did long balls , you had to swim one end to the other.
Wot is that song
so where is this statistic??? who did the study??? where are the results published???
great times. football shit now
Fans packed in like sardines, Little did we know of the danger.
I think denial is treatable, you should look into it
Good to hear the superb Gary Glitter music...
