Nice looking GQ. It must be one of the cleanest looking original one in AUS. 👍 Where you have your First Aid kit, is where I have my fire blanket attached. I have my First Aid kit mounted above the rear seats against the rear barrier. And I'm like you, I prefer to keep things as original as I can and don't like hacking into anything, particularly drilling holes into metal of the car or cutting any plastic trims in the dash. Essentially for me to make changes, I should be able to reverse it without any obvious signs it's been modded before. If I can't do that, then I don't do the mod.
Another great no BS video, I tell ya what fellas it's awesome to see some people still in possession of commonsense even though many will have you believe doesn't exist. Dan, as an 80 series owner I'm not even gonna bother with the "Pootrol" type comments, this is a great looking vehicle mate, congratulations. You guys all obviously know your shit and for an old fart like me, very encouraging to see young fellas with the brains and confidence to do stuff yourself and not buy into the advertising that tries to sell you stuff you don't need. Good, reliable, commonsense advice on all the videos I've seen on this channel so well done lads, keep it up, you've definitely got another subscriber, even a dad/granddad "back in my day" one like me. Outstanding boys.
I have great respect for you son. You do impeccable work taking such pride in it. I wish you all the best with continuing your build and proudly driving your creation for hopefully years to come.
The Patrol has come up a treat. It’s good to see you have thought about the mods you need and added accordingly. Bloody neat job. And quality parts at a reasonable price. 👍🍺🇦🇺
Dual zone fridge freezer is better, frozen vegies and icecream is out without and frozen meals. few things u might like or missed are snake bandage, snatch, blind spot mirrors, reverse camera, dash mat.. but essentially comprehensive and ideal
Nothing budget about a GQ these days. Paid 3 grand for a mint maverick TD42 only a couple years back sold it for 8500 with a good turbo set up and some touring fruit. These days lucky to get a petrol TB42 for under 12-15k
Good tip is to use 5 or 7 core trailer wire for running accessories, you can get some decent 20 or 30a rated cable and its all nice and neat, and only 1 cable running. That way you will have spare wires to hook up if needed.
Nice work Dan. I really respect and appreciate your attention to detail. One suggestion from my experience - Cut that ciggy plug off the fridge lead and replace it with an Anderson plug. It's not just that the ciggy plugs come loose easily, they often don't make a very good connection which causes them to get hot, which wastes a lot of energy from the battery, and eventually melts your ciggy plug.
Would love to hear more on that 12V system really struggling to get my head around particularly the landcruiser walkthrough this one seems a lot more practical and relevant!
Nice simple setup. Well done. Never run muddies so can't comment on the noise. But in 25 years there haven't been many times I've thought "wish I have mud tyres".
Up the ocam gear. Been running my rack for a few years and have hammered it, literally backed it into trees, had a bunch of people standing on it, loaded up etc and it's still absolutely fine. It's light as hell too as alloy and has enough clearance to easily clean the roof under it unlike some roof racks which have fuck all clearance to clean which makes zero sense
Ive got muddies atm. Maxxis. I dont find them loud at all btw. I wasn't going to get em on my new ute but did for some reason? But my theory for the last few years is that only people driving in the top 10% harshest conditions ever really use thier potential. No matter how hard I think I go off road, the truth is I never actually "need" muddies. Eg, I have a mate that bought a new hilux and is going to wear out its factory road tyres before he goes a/t's. He has taken it wheeling with us a few times and had no real major traction issues. He even made it over/through obstacles in one go that took a nav and a dmax multiple attempts with muddies or all terrains. Its mostly the driver 99% of the time. Im sure the road tyres are not ideal for off road but my tl;dr story demonstrates that muddies in particular aren't essential or even really necessary for most people. Haha grats for reading through this if ya did 🤙
I fitted Hankook RT03s on my old prado after running BF AT KOs, the muddies were same noise level. I am now running Hankook ATs on my Amarok, with a set of cheap muddies for play... but as your mate said, except for toolangi... or Bunyip or pretty much anywhere in VIC after some rain
Agree on the Mud Terrain argument. An aggressive All Terrain is good for all seasons and if you do get stuck then the winch or a snatch to get you out of the bog. But hey, like you said each to their own.
Great car, been looked after well. If you wanted to improve it looks wise cheaply you should use some trim and bumper gel, which will take your plastics back to a pretty deep black.
I always use muddies for my gu, I do have road tyres for it but they came with it. That 10% you need the muddies is all the excuse I need to run them all the time
I agree with your point about at vs mt but you'd probably find a good mt will be quieter than those cheap windforce at's. main benifit of mt over an at is generally a stronger sidewall. thick mud and bog holes any tyre is ging to struggle and should probably be avoided anyway.
@@tomhoare1207 I'd love to compare that. A maxxis or nitto mt vs the windforce at. I'm really curious which one is louder and which will last longer. I'd personally prefer a goof quality at or rt tyre as they will last heaps longer assuming you manage to avoid puncturing the sidewall.
anyone looking to use an optima as a secondary you're probably better off going with a blue top marine style. exactly the same battery but has some extra terminals to help tidy up your wiring
good stuff, I own a GQ also, tough as nails mate, lovin it, yep did this, smacks hands together, did that smacks hands together, thinking bout this, smacks hands together, lol
Honestly love the 12v on a budget videos, but I strongly reccomend in investing in a dc/dc charger over a vsr, you won't look back. No matter how good your vsr is it won't charge your second battery 100%
Dan seems like such a good bloke. Head screwed on, thinks about what he does and says and refreshing to see. Keep it up mate, love the content.
Love the way Dan explains his reasoning for everything, very well thought out!
Great rig.
Most underrated off-road/camping accessory -- The milk crate!
Great looking GQ Dan. I love the way you think things out and rationalise every thing you do and aren't swayed by what other people think. Well done👍

It looks like the first aid kit is attached to his fridge in the boot
This has to be one of the cleanest and most simple GQ patrol setups ivd ever seen, keep up the good work !

You know if Dan is in the thumbnail, it's going to be a good episode

Love what you've done with her! Keeping it all clean and not going over board on modifications is where it's at! Top job bloke 👌👌
Another great vid, I love these tutorials. Dan is one of the smartest, easy going, knowledgeable and most likeable blokes on RUclips
for the guard, maybe see if Al from The Skid Factory wants to swap a guard instead of putting a hole in a good one
One of the best, honest review of products and mods. Really appreciate mate. Thoughts on tyres was spot on.
just a touch of ocd Dan, nothing wrong with that. just love the fact u kept the big girl stock with a few simple upgrades n no extra holes. very cool.
Nothing budget about a GQ these days. Paid 3 grand for a mint maverick TD42 only a couple years back sold it for 8500 with a good turbo set up and some touring fruit.
These days lucky to get a petrol TB42 for under 12-15k
Small drop down table on the inside of the back door is easy, light 3mm aluminium sheet, and so handy to have an extra flat area
Good tip is to use 5 or 7 core trailer wire for running accessories, you can get some decent 20 or 30a rated cable and its all nice and neat, and only 1 cable running. That way you will have spare wires to hook up if needed.
Good choice on the fridge, I've had that exact one running in my Pajero for just on 2 years now and it hasn't missed a beat.
Nice work Dan. I really respect and appreciate your attention to detail.

Thanks mate had a few people mention that, I’ll get onto it 👍
She's a beast buddy, clean n tidy a definite standout
Excellent job going to mitre 10, a proper hardware store and not another wasted trip to bunnings...
recommended you change the 12v cigarettes lighter plug to a Anderson plug on the fridge as they vibrate lose
This is by far the cleanest GQ and cleanest set up I have seen top job
That things like the dream budget build!! So clean and professionally done. 👍
Would love to hear more on that 12V system really struggling to get my head around particularly the landcruiser walkthrough this one seems a lot more practical and relevant!

VERY well thought out and set up rig, nice job Dan.
Ol Dan nearly has Shauno covered with confidence behind the camara lol like he’s been doing it for years
Simple mods but they add character to the Patrol. I adore your rig mate 🤙🏼🤙🏼. It’s very cool 👏🏼👏🏼

Looking really good mate, should also look at a fold down table off the back door.
Dan is so genuine, gotta get rid of that ugly alloy bullbar mate, very nice GQ
So good Dan. Always very clear on what you are talking about. Even I can understand you
I like your videos mate, you are always very smart on the way you do stuff.
More Dan please 🙏 Love this kind of content. Keep up the great work 💪
Yeah great work Dan. Well thought out and executed. And the patrol isn't too bad either. Keep it up mate.
Awesome vid as always. The only thing missing from your set up is a travel buddy under that second gull wing!
10/10.
EXCELLENT.
WELL Done.
THANK You.

Nice tastefull mods Dan.
Nice rig mate 👌 have you got a video on how you did the second battery set-up and brackets thats some thing I need done 👍🍻
Agree on the Mud Terrain argument. An aggressive All Terrain is good for all seasons and if you do get stuck then the winch or a snatch to get you out of the bog. But hey, like you said each to their own.
Awesome just knocked work great Sunday sesh
awesome clean old rig. nice build
Great vid Dan
Nice Patrol .... the Y60 is such a handsome beast .
thats one clean patrol... needs draws for sure haha
Great car, been looked after well. If you wanted to improve it looks wise cheaply you should use some trim and bumper gel, which will take your plastics back to a pretty deep black.
Nice 1 Dan, its coming along well
Muddies arnt just for mud. Strength and grip for rocks ect
8:47 really good thinking!
Such a neat set up.
Great decision on going with all terrain
Please do a video like this in Liams GQ too. Miss that thing in the videos 👍🏽

Very smart set up! Well done!!!
Great vid guys putting out decent content 👌 ive got an efi setup for a tb42 if ya want it 🤙
Great job on the second batter setup mate love it would be awesome to try do it myself but not as good as you haha
mud tire drone worth it all day
Please find an already cut guard!
100% mate finding patrol guards without a hole cut in them are getting harder and harder to find especially a GQ one haha
Haha saw dan goin past in the gq today thing looked mint as
The reason I subscribed to the channel your attention to detail is amazing
Should try and find another guard from another vehicle and keep that one perfect.
I’ve been in a rollover and heartily second the statement about not having heavy shit unsecured in the cab.
Great tip with the tyres
Is anybody else having issues with patchy audio?? Cracking videos boys keep them up!!
It's looking sweet. Very Noice! 👍👌
CLEAN rig and quality mods selection.
good stuff, I own a GQ also, tough as nails mate, lovin it, yep did this, smacks hands together, did that smacks hands together, thinking bout this, smacks hands together, lol
Neatly setup rig.. Great explanation!
awsome rig
Dan is the best 20 something year old in a 50 year old mindset. Good job.
Now can you please put the heat gun over those guards brother
good stuff mate, great setup.
Would love to buy one of these and mod it the way you did
I run lakesea extreme mts and I don't find them loud as with others which have done my head in in the past. But yeah I know what you mean mate
Sweet ride bud
Love it
Great job, such a nice vehicle
When are the lockers coming?
Mickey thompson baja atz p3 tires are most reliable best all-rounder 4x4 tyres on market not cheap though
Don’t cut a hole in the guard run a bonnet entry or buy another guard and paint it
Tyre noise can be very tiring, good point on that. 👌😁
Honestly love the 12v on a budget videos, but I strongly reccomend in investing in a dc/dc charger over a vsr, you won't look back. No matter how good your vsr is it won't charge your second battery 100%
Add solar and it will
Wow Dan it looks great.
Very helpful tips.
Loving the look of the old girl now 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Oh no! Holes 🕳 on guard !!!!!
every time Dan claps his hands take a shot!
Super clean build
Legends
Very clean just need to get rid of the ugly bull bar and some new suck headlights recommended don’t have to
*sick
Nice car.
I had one of those brand new. I loved it but man it was stupid on fuel.
Do you know what your L/100ks was on highway?
You’re a monster if you cut that guard for a snorkel just get a through bonnet snorkel
I don’t want to cut the guard but honestly how is cutting the bonnet any better 😂
@@dantheman7647 a lot easier to find a bonnet than a guard without a snorkel hole
@@isaaccknight give it five years they’ll be the same story as guards
Top video
Very ice car mate Well thought out and set up congrats mate.
Dan what size tyres are they?
Great rig I like keeping it simple
Hey mate they’re 33x12.5r15s
Cheers 👍
Wonderful car ,, congratulations,, keep it
