I was unable to flip the metal switch as you did, but I when I actuated the power locks while pressing on the metal switch it un- jammed and the door could be unlocked and opened. Hope this helps someone Thanks again for posting this.
Thank you for this video. It is much more helpful to have a visual than try to understand the repair book. I would have felt incredibly dumb going to a shop to have this problem fixed! My passenger side (front and rear) doors have jammed on my '02 Mazda Tribute.
Though the camera work is a little rough, it gives us with this problem a starting point at least so thanks for that. I have a passenger door that has a broken handle on the outside. I haven't tried it from the inside yet because I recall spending a bit of time trying to keep it closed so I could at least drive it. In the event that the inside handle won't allow me to open the door, this is a great video to allow me to try and get access to the actuator to get it open if needs be. Then I can replace the handle on the outside and I should be golden. Thanks for taking the time to do this vid. Might come in very handy.
i can't really see what u did but i have the exact same problem on the exact same car in the video.... all i saw is u unscrewing the inner do. the rest i couldn't
+Ozzie Im sorry you had trouble with the video. There is a small metal switch beside electrical plug on the inside of the door that you have to get moving freely up and down. Hit the door locks a time or two after you flip it down and the door should come open. Sorry again for the video quality my video glasses were the only thing I could use in such a tight space. I hope this helps.
I had the same problem with my 03 Escape... it was locked all the time. Then one day, my niece was visiting and she opened the door... and it has opened ever since. Now, this past summer, my niece discovered that the same door is now unlocked... all the time! No matter how many times I try to lock it (with or without the key fob/alarm), it will not lock! Even if the car alarm is engaged, I can open that door without the alarm going off. I have also tried manually locking it, but it just will not lock. Advice?
I have that problem too on my driver's rear door. The handle is broken and loose so won't open. I may have to use this if the inside doesn't open it up. The handle needs to be replaced on mine. Same with yours?
I had the same problem with the Front passenger door I fixed it once and then it went doing the same thing again where the door wouldn’t open now I’m trying to do it again fix it it just won’t pop up do you have any suggestions on how I can actually get it to open thanks happy holidays to you and your family
I’ve had to fix mine several times the last time I just kept flipping it and pulling the door handle till it worked. Some times it takes a minute. Good luck and merry Christmas.
You might not be able to fully remove the front panel if that's the case. Though I imagine it should still give you just enough clearance to get to the actuator, although it may be a lot more difficult to do.
And this works even with the child safety lock on? My moms 2002 the rear left passenger door has been locked for years. We are thinking it's the child safety lock stuck on.
I watched this video today, tried a couple of times without giving up and fixed the back left of my Ford Escape....Thank you very much
Very useful tip, both of my rear doors where shut and now today I fixed them in just 20 mins

I really appreciate your video. I am going to try this tomorrow. I thought I was the only one with this problem! Thank you, again.
You are welcome

+Heather Schuchart Mazda door locks/handles are made the same as Fords

What about if outside door handles are loose like not attached or is that what also happens?

Using curse words makes it go faster. Fyi

OMG! So even in the future they still use archaic methods. 2038/01/23. Little do we know LeBron James is president of that year.
Was gonna say "so fords still suck in the future"
This wasn't helpful at all
thanks will try!
