I got to see him live in Mexico at a palenque at the Féria Texcoco. I was sitting near the top row. A couple of times, when he would hit his big notes, he would put the Microphone behind his back - you could hear him loud and clear. He had an amazing voice! Really entertaining show.

I remember how much my late father enjoyed listening to Mexican music...especially when we were living in the Philippines for four+ years back in the early 70s. Since he was in Vietnam before we joined him at Clark AB, it had been almost six years since he had been back home in Arizona by the time we moved back. Listening to Vincente Fernández often made a tough guy like my father become quite emotional.

I wrote an article for a Master's project between the similarities in western opera singing technique and mariachi singing technique and I used this song as an example in my presentation. If only this video was available when I did that! Thank you for respecting this genre and acknowledging it as a respectable, beautiful art form.

As a mexican American it's almost a badge of honor to see him once if your lifetime. I am proud to say I got to see him once as a teenager. I looked over and my parents and uncle were all brought to tears at one point. As an adult I get it now.

He was amazing and beloved all over the world. I worked a sold out tour with him and his son. Security tried to take a phone from a fan. He stopped singing and when the fan said he had his mother on the phone, Vincent’s had the phone given to him and sang to that mother on the other end.💗. He and his son were a class act on that tour. I’ll never forget it!

Apart from Mexico, I don't know if there is any country that loves Rancheras (and especially Vicente Fernández) more than Colombia. I grew up listening to many, many different genres but among them Rancheras wa always one of my very favorites. Great loss to music on his death... Vicente will live forever and "mujeres divinas" will always be a hymn on my home!

Beth, there is so much talent south of the border. Vicente also known as El Rey is certainly a powerhouse for the Ranchera genre of music. Ranchera was always labelled as regional Mexican music. Upon his passing it became clear just how widespread his fanbase is. From the US to the tip of South America, his songs of love, heartbreak and women certainly resonate with a lot of people.

Western classical music did very much influence this music, Mexico is, after all, a Western country whether people like to admit it or not, and we speak a Latin based language. Greece and Rome are the origins for Western everything, and through our Spanish heritage, we are hugely intertwined 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 Let’s not forget, also, that Mexico had the first printing press, university, public libraries, vineyards/wineries, cathedrals, etc etc in North America, and before the pilgrims even set foot! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇪🇸🇪🇸

Hola!

His two favorite singerd where Pedro Infante and Javier Solis, Infante had that soft voice while Solis had the high pitch. Vicente combined both styles and made it his own as he gotbolder since he knew his voice wasnt going to be the same. He always said he wanted to sing like his two idols. Funny, but when Solis died, he became the next Mexican Ranchero Singer, there could only be one to represent, so it was his time to shine

He wrote 30+ songs of which I could guess that most of the top 10 mariachi songs might be his.
