Putting Donnel anywhere on this list made me laugh, he easily becomes the strongest character in the game, even stronger than Robin. I thought this video was just going to be a "this character is weak in the beginning so it's bad" video but you redeemed yourself with Fredrick. Honestly I think the only game with a good Jiegan was FE10 with Titania, though Radiant Dawn was quite the misfit with the separate stories, 2 promotions, etc.
He put Donny on the list because of how hard it is to level him up. He even mentioned later on that he can become one of the best characters in the game.
Donnel is overrated, his stat modifiers aren't that great, his only unique skills are aptitude and underdog, and considering you get infinite level ups aptitude is pretty useless. I really find myself wondering why people rate him so highly...
really hated sumia and the whole thing with her and chrom in the cut scene. i don't understand that she's not helpless enough to save chrom and not helpless enough to slap him in the face but she can't even walk properly and she doesn't demonstrate herself well on the battlefield. idk i feel like her character is an attempt at being moe desu anime w/e but its not consistent. she irks me lol.

Otter Hero Noire is an optional character that you obtain very late (debately) in the game, plus she a child character so she beats most 1st gen characters hands down.

10. Donnel can be good, but only if you put in the effort to train him, which isn't available in No-Grind runs, so that's fair. 9. That's fair too, because Frederick doesn't level well without DLC. (But also, where would you be without him? Probably dead, in a ditch.) 8. Fair point, however each one does have noticeable differences, Sully is faster and more skillful, but Stahl is stronger, so they can be pretty devastating together. 7. Not necessarily true. Miriel and Tharja both have the same magic modifier, but Tharja has absolute CRAPTASTIC skill, and coupled with Dark Tomes' horrible hit rate, she ain't gonna be hitting anything soon without being reclassed into a sniper first. Additionally, Miriel has a higher magic stat than Henry, plus she's slightly faster, but less skillful. But on the same note, you're probably going to keep Henry as a Sorcerer anyway, so the skills balance out slightly. Plus, with Miriel being upgraded into a Dark Knight, she performs fairly well, as her defense is patched, her Mov is as high as it can be without Boots, and she can use Levin Swords if you're willing to grind. And honestly, unless they come directly from the Cleric (Or the Troubador) line, healers are not that good because they don't get healtouch, as well as the fact they don't have any prebuilt Staff experience, so I don't feel shame in keeping Miriel as a Dark Knight. 6. Can't argue with that, Severa's a jerk. But, I do feel bad for her, because she only got that way because everyone expected her to be able to do the same stuff as Cordelia (trust me, being compared to relatives is NOT fun), as well as the fact she thought Chrom was more important to Cordelia than herself, so... 5. Yeah, Sumia isn't all too great, considering the fact she has a -2 str cap in a STR BASED CLASS. But, she's better off as a support unit, if not a Dark Flier imo. 4. Frankly, Maribelle feels like she is one of the better healers, mainly because she has Staff experience built up, which I can't stand grinding for. She also has a higher magic growth than Lissa, so she's good if you need a second healer, which frankly I usually do, because Libra and Anna don't have as great magic caps to heal with. 3. Yep, archers are bad in Awakening. And Virion's stats don't exactly help him. 2. Olivia's base class is more of a support unit. If anything, she should be able to help your healers heal faster before the enemy gets to your units, or ferry them slightly farther. And if you get her to power up a bit, she can survive enemy waves so you can send her into the enemy range to help your other units keep killing. She's not meant to go directly into the fray initially, which you seem to think is the only way. 1. Children characters can surpass their parent characters in ability, so in fact, the later in the game you get them, the better they'll be. So frankly, the only potential healer BETTER than Brady ever could be would be a Ricken-fathered Laurent or Noire, and any Morgans produced from said characters. Some of your reasoning was fair, but some things were overlooked.
PlatinumHeart Just gonna comment on the healer thing. I kept Anna as a trickster (might've gotten the name wrong, I mean the saleswoman that's basically Nurse Joy) and used her as a highly mobile field medic. Like 95% of her earned exp came from healing. Also she was good at avoiding hits so I wasn't afraid to have her up there instead of having like a little camp where I'd send everyone to get healed. That being said I made Lissa (my wife) into a sage for similar reasons (made her into a front line mage that could heal others if needed)
Red Spooky There is no specific "bad healer" in the game. It's just that normally, classes that don't promote from a magic-class (Trickster, Falcon Knight, etc.) tend to perform poorer than those who do (Sage, War Cleric/Monk, Valkyrie), because their magic stats tend to be lesser due to the fact they need to balance the other stats with it. (War Clerics/Monks have less speed and skill, so they can have more balanced offenses and defenses) Anna, however is an exception. She does have a positive magic modifier of one, so she can heal better than, say, Gaius. However, she and Gangrel really are like the only decent non-magic-based classed healers. (Even then, I'm not sure if Gangrel has a positive magic modifier. I think it may be a zero.) Also, Maribelle comes with a Mend staff unlike Anna who only has a Heal staff, so Maribelle can probably heal better than Anna could initially, and Maribelle would probably have an easier time growing than Anna due to the fact Maribelle starts in a base-class instead of a promoted one.
PlatinumHeart You know, the more I play Fire Emblem, the more I've found the dancer class to be very useful. So I agree with your assessment on that one. It's only a major plus thing that she's a support unit that can actually counter-attack in that rare case of emergency. Or lend a hand in finishing off a foe herself if the coast is clear for some juicy expy.

Severa is actually my favourite female character xD. It's refreshing to have a character that isn't the typical " Oh I get along with everyone I'm so popular "- type. her mission annoyed me first aswell, but aftsr knowing how to do it, it was quite easy, I would just have someone cast her back ( a healer) with 15 of the calling back magic, then the troops go amd smash stuff, amd then another healer calls her up to the front :D
That's pretty funny, I never had problems with the level myself, but I never though to have a healer just keep dragging her back out of range with rescue while you clean up the enemies xD
Kellam I did tactician+Cordelia so severa had access to every female class in the game and could use some obnoxiously poweful skill combos like galeforce (move twice when you get a kill) and lifetaker (heal half of your MAX health every time you get a kill) so in my game Severa is virtually invincible and can easily sweep any of the missions alone.
+Ben Wood Either takes too long, (optimally you want him as a Wyvern Rider at chapter 8), or he would eat up too much experience best saved for your other characters. Not worth keeping Freddy until he gains Luna, no.
I can understand why you have Severa on this list with her annoying recruitment mission and her sour attitude, but she truly is a fantastic unit and is kind hearted deep down, especially with her mother, father, and sister.
PSA for all classic mode players: you can press L+R+Start at the same time to bring you back to the title screen. This also works for Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, and possibly X and Y.
I don't think you're giving Severa enough credit. Yes, she's pricklier than a cactus, but in the level you get her, she only wants to help a villager with a pregnant wife. Plus, you can keep Severa safe with anyone who can hold a staff. Anna, Miriel, Gangrel, and Cordelia can do the job nicely because they can use staves at certain class promotions. Gangrel and Anna can do it already. Plus, I married Cordelia to Gaius. If you can keep Severa out of the line of fire while your other troops clear the road, she actually turns out to be one of the better characters. She has access to the Assassin, Myrmidon, Dark Knight, and Dark Flyer classes, giving her access to Lethality, Lifetaker, Galeforce, Vantage, Armsthrift, and after that, she makes a great hero class. If she survives, she can't be beat.
How come level 30? His stats are really low as a villager, so you should just go to level 15 to get Underdog and then reclass to Mercenary. He'll cap his stats faster and eventually become a hero.
Severa might be mean, but if you've actually read her supports with anyone to A/S Rank she is amazingly nice. As well as really good exp distribution making she can be ready for the front lines
You know,if you train up Ricken enough,he can be one of your most stongest magic users in your army,and quickly loses his frailty.He has tanked SO many hits,but mostly dodged.I also slightly grinded to the point that the final battle of the first half was pretty easy.And yes,I am using the easiest difficulty when you begin the game.
I can sum up why Brady's bad in less than 10 words "His Mother is Maribelle, who already sucks" But, I would like to point out that Brady's defense is more or less up to the control of the player, based on the defense stat of his parents and who his father actually is, so he can have good defense. Plus, with some know-how, you can beat his chapter with the use of two characters on the first turn, never putting him in harm's way. On the other hand, he's another healer, and suffers from a similar, if not the same problem as his mother, just now on a greater scale, as you have access to more possible healers than ever before, between Sages, War Clerics, Falcoknights, and Valkyries, making Brady pretty pointless

Its like this guy never took the time to grind his characters so they're all good. This list shouldn't exist because none of the characters are actually bad at all. It really just matters how you play and what you like to play PS: Pairing up your characters is very good and makes them much stronger overall

I wish I wish I had mentioned somewhere in the video, that this list is based off when you get them, not necessarily their full potential because as you've pointed out, anyone can reach a god-like status.

I respect you're opinion but.... Severa is a tsundere, don't know what that means? She is mean on the outside and nice on the inside, some examples of this would be in her A support with Cordelia and her father. As for recruiting her, yes I'll admit it's a pain. That aside, she can easily become one of you're most power units.
A Tsundere is often classified as a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing their warm side over time.
They tend to be more aggressive, and can easily push others away, making them tough to approach. They'll even put up a guard when doing something for someone so as not to show weakness. "It's not like I described tsundere just for YOU..."
Ugh yes I hate Virion now, great personality..! Horrible stats. Ricken can actually be an extremely powerful spellcaster and a good dodger when paired with Nowi (because she has high luck and it increases his magic) so I don't mind him so much (Ricken and Nowi are practically almost amazing duo XD ) Sumia and Chrom can be super OP, they dodge practically anything and deliver multiple attacks which is great for me. If you want Maribelle to "take some hits" (or have someone else do it for her) pair with Donell because his luck stats are high, I love it XD Yes..! Yes Severa is a rude character thank you for agreeing! (I thought the child of my favorite couple in this game would be better D:< ) And I think I've accidentally trained both my cavalier's to be amazing. I've broken the rules OAO -okay I'm done talking now-

Robbie Elliott Yes! Compared to Miriel (who is the worst mage ever, who even thought that was a good idea!?) He's a beast. I went from Mage to Sage in my first game, but now I'm using Tharja as my Mage so the poor thing is being neglected ^^;;
Now,I will say,If you devote your time to grinding over and over and over and over and over,you can make Olivia a pretty good character. Not great mind you,but still a good character,especially since she can dance.

Yeah I made her a swordmaster to get Astra and on the way she got insane stats and is one of my best units. My other two major powerhouses are Inigo+Noire, meaning they are meant to be paired up. They can each do something on their own, but they're nigh invincible when paired up with S Rank support. That and I gave Inigo Astra and Noire got Vengeance and Renewal.
+redhatkid09 He was joking. King Marth cannot become a dancer. However, he is incredibly overpowered. I'd suggest reclassing him into a Merc to get him armsthrift, pairing him with the other Spotpass Prince Marth, and generally grinding his luck as high as it can go. At that point, Prince Marth will buff him over 50 luck and you can equip a forged brave sword without having any risk of losing it. Ever. At that point, he easily 1-shots virtually everything in the game and Sol's trigger rate makes him almost as tanky as an actual knight.
I agree with almost every placement on this list... except Severa. I actually like Severa personality wise... in her later supports, she actually shows a lot of development (esp. because she starts out so mean). This is especially clear with her parental supports (and her supports with characters that really annoy her at first, like Inigo). HOWEVER - I completely agree that the mission to recruit her is the *single worst* in the game. On my first playthrough (which was casual, mind you), I had to wait to get her until I had gone two or three story missions further through the game. All that said, due to the fact that she's actually a good unit late-game, and she shows good character development, she probably would not make my top ten worst. I probably would have bumped up the rest of the characters on this list and put in Kellam or Kjelle, as I'm not fond of the heavily armored units due to their lack of mobility.
+Kc Clark (Dr. Falchion) I don't know why everyone hates on Paralogue 10! It's my favourite level in Fire Emblem Awakening! Severa's recruitment method is fun, the enemies are really easy and have terrible stats and give you lots of EXP. I've only played in once (:C) but I had a blast (I did Paralogue 10 after beating Chapter 14)!
Air tempest A big part of the issue wasn't so much that the enemies were straight-up difficult, but that Severa has such a headstart on you. I had to wait a little while to get more units with high mobility (and to train up my fliers, as they were somewhat underused at that point in my playthrough) in order to finish it. Not only that, but even once you reach her with Chrom or Cordelia she stays as a CPU and rushes in, forcing you to rush in ahead and try to kill everything before they kill her - this proves especially difficult with the winding walls within the castle that allow ranged units to attack her before you can even reach them. In retrospect, no, its not as ridiculously unfair or difficult as I felt it was when I originally made this post, but I was ill-prepared for it when I first attempted it, PLUS its difficulty doesn't actually come from anything related to my skill, since I have no control over Severa's actions.
I relied heavily on Virion throughout. Get him to S rank and married to Panne and keep them together on the field. The evasion bonuses are so good that defense won't matter. I almost never got hit by anything coming his way lol
You make very valid points in every of these characters. Though! I myself had my MU who I reclassed to sage use a rescue staff to keep severa back while everyone else killed the enemies.
Btw, Olivia can grind up to LV 30 on the level you get get her (if you have the patience) because the fighters won't attack until you move into enemy range.
+Mr.Random7 I made her a Myrmidon and then a Swordmaster the made her a Dancer again. Because she's paired with my Avatar (who is a Wyvern Lord) and she has 53 power (45 without) and she has over 70 avoid. SHE WILL KILL ANYONE! SHE DOES 36 DAMAGE PER HIT WITH ONLY A STEEL SWORD! I might make her a Swordmaster again because I don't use her dancing skill that often (By the way, in this playthough for Olivia, not the other two, I've only beaten the Premotion to Chapter 13 and I've beaten Daughter To Dragons, Ruined By Time, A Man Of Flowers and A Shot In The Dark. My Nah is a level 1 Manakete with Quick Burn, Patience, Sol, Swordbreaker and Axebreaker and both of my Avatar/Olivia's kids have Swordfaire and Swordbreaker, which is good because they both use swords. My Noire inherited Vengeance and Rally Luck which is good since the Sniper class doesn't get any Rally skills. Nah has the highest rating of my team so far with a 256, before Chapter 14 LOL.). Also, Brady is probably the best Trickster in the game (Fem! Morgan X Brady) and in one playthough, my Maribelle was my tank on Wellspring Of Truth. FRICKING WELLSPRING OF TRUTH! Keep in mind that I already had Lissa as a Sage when I recruited Maribelle (I dropped Lissa from my team after around chapter 14).
I personally disagree with the list because I use different strategies where I can get them all to survive on classic mode. I always use all the female characters no matter how much they suck because with grinding and a husband with decent stats/growth rates, their kids turn out fine. But the "worst" character for me is either Miriel, Olivia (only because if you level her up and get her to be a great offensive unit, she loses her dancing ability and then she gets super weak once you reclass her back to dancer), or Vaike. But I have found ways to make them better and stronger.
I think that in 90% of fire emblem games all archers can be called bad... "But Matt, they have good growths! Look at Rebecca!" Growths don't mean anything with a weapon that restricts you so much. Literally any Mage will outclass an archer
I think he should have said that this list only applies BEFORE the end game. Any character can become amazing with the right skills, class routes, parents, etc. He focuses on how the characters are going through the story.
When that type of thinking is applied, the thing that matters most is a character's skill set. New top five include: Avatar. Access to all normal classes for his or her gender make most skill sets possible. Tharja. Just enough available classes to become a one woman army. Lucina (Daughter of Olivia, Avatar, or Sully): Combine Rightful King with Luna, Aether, Lethality, and Astra for massive skill activations. Or substitute Lethality with Galeforce to increase turn rating and movement potential. Morgan. He/She has access to all of the things that the avatar does, plus access to one exclusive class and one skill from the opposite gender. Noire. Same as her mother, but factor in her father's inheritance.
At least we could hate characters for their personality, unlike Fates. Don't get me wrong, I love the game... but some of them just barely even have a personality.
I think their lack of personality is due to the sheer amount of characters there are in Fates. There are still some great characters (Elise, Niles, etc.), but too many of them are just bland. The amount of characters also had an unfortunate effect on supports, as they were also very bland compared to Awakening. Hopefully the next FE game will focus on giving its characters more developed personalities.
I think it's due to the localization. I read some support conversations and Chapter paralogues (translated in English, I don't speak weeaboo) and the characters seem more alive, in a way. They were way too similar. I think Soleil and Niles were probably the most alive, personality wise, because of how different from the others they are.
"They only give you so much experience..." Bruh it's an open map where you can literally summon teams to farm and grind for experience. Any character can become at least decent.
If you don't like Severa it's just because you didn't play her completly... She has a big heart, she's full of admiration to your character, her mother, Kjelle... She help Noire everytime... And, DAWN she's freakin' powerfull ! I choose Lon'qu for father and she get 52 in speed and 43 in strenght in assassin's class. I completely agree with everything you just said. I actually married Severa, she's one of my favorite characters. Lon'qu is her father for me too, I'm not mindlessly defending her I just think that he didn't do as much looking into her as he should have.
+Relax Severa is written as a tsundere character (for those who don't know, a tsundere is a character [boy or girl] who is a complete bitch on the outside to hide his/her true character, which is most of the time actually very friendly and even shy.). I think the most hate for Severa comes from people not knowing about this, or like you said, not finishing her stories - or maybe hating the tsundere trope overall. I myself, don't like tsundere's, they are used way to often in a lot of japanese media (be it anime, manga or games) and it get's annoying over time to see a tsundere, like, every two minutes. But some of them are tollerable enough to dig deeper into their past/character and Severa is one of them, which is why I love her alot and why she is pretty much ALLWAYS my MaleMU's daughter, besides Morgan of cause. :) - Plus if I was allways compared to my mother (or other family members) without ever beeing able to shine on my own, I would get pissed at the world too. tldr.: Severa is a tsundere - hard on the outside but soft on the inside - play her supports till the end and THEN decide if you still don't like her. ;) edit: corrected myself of cause it's tsundere not yandere, thanks Shatterstars88 for pointing that mistake out for me

The reasoning behind Brady is null when you realize he starts right next to your team and can easily be recruited turn one, access the convoy, grab a Master Seal, use it to promote to a War Monk or Sage, as well as take a weapon for whatever class you choose to promote to from the convoy. Just sayin.
I agree with a lot of people on this list, especially in no-grind runs, but Frederick being on here is inaccurate for a no-grind run. In Lunatic+/Classic YOU MUST rely on him on the early chapters. After chapter 5-6, he does become obsolete compared to Robin, but the sheer usefulness of him up till then should automatically wipe his name from this list. In any other difficulty, I would understand. Olivia is the most useful character in a grind-run. Seriously. She can make Apotheosis look like a joke. She is even useful in no-grind runs and Lunatic+/Classic.
grinding only can help you so much. especially if you play Lunatic +. although I won't lie. I felt bad not using Frederick, even though we had so many memories of destroying chapters.
I TRIED to level that guy up. I really did! But it just took WAY too long. I ended up changing him to cavalier class just so mages wouldn't one or two-shot him. It's hard to be motivated to level him up when your avatar is a hero with max stats, armshrift, ignus, and solus. And Rally. Then there's Donnel.
Brady at number 1... Me: Okay, that hurts. That really hurts. Both my in-game wife AND son on this list. I can understand it, though. The thing is with him however is that he can be a healer only for his chapter if you want. Just give him a strong unit to protect him, complete the map, and use a second seal to make him a class that would suit him better depending on the father.
I took an axe and a seal into the level with me so he could jump right into the fight with his parents, I tried doing that on multiple child recruitment levels and found things went much better.
*quietly raises hand* It's easier to get Severa if you use Rescue on her a few times until you have the hallway cleared out. And it can also get her to go down the other hallway if you pull her back far enough.
I don't know if anyone else knows of this, but in chapter 13, instead of killing the commander, use Olivia to dance for whoever you want to pair her with. Just do that until she's level 30 (I think that's the max for dancer) and you have an Olivia that can destroy everything. It'll probably take 200 or something turns to get to max and 100 something for 20. Good luck and be patient.
also works for most healers, you just corner some enemies with frederick or any tanky guy and unequip their weapons, then just let them get hit and heal them till the enemies dont have weapons left. This is a necessity on lunatic and makes most characters that can be healers just so much more valueable
Colin Bosarge you don't have to play lunatic cause it will just make you cry if you don't know what you're doing, but I advice that you play on hard mode, it will really push your strategy skills because you haven't really played fire emblem without trying the more brutal difficulties and at the end if you beat the game, you really know you're a pro :D just saying. Normal mode is way too easy, I remember just putting Tharja paired with Kellam in the middle of the battlefield and she destroys every enemy unit with just Ruin lol
I actually like Severa's personality in the late supports (A and S level) she is a lot nicer in those and reveals that the only reason she acted so harsh was because she didn't want to become attatched to her mother again just to lose her again and have to suffer through all of her grief again. Also she is considered to possibly be the best unit in the game because of her absurd stat caps when compared to the rest of the cast, even the other well bred children and a maxed out Donnel can not compare. If if didn't force you to drag Chrom along, I would have killed Grima with just Severa alone on hard classic difficulty.
Maribelle's resistance as a troubadour is absoluteley ridiculous, and I love her for it! Great video though, since I felt you backed up your opinions nicely.
There is no character I want to backhand more than Severa. Don't get me wrong, I like how they made a character who doesn't get along with everyone, but she's a straight up BITCH. I've also never had a use for Mercenaries. Gregor and Inigo both got reclassed as soon as I got them. (MYRMIDON INIGO MVP)
I love flying units, including Sumia. Awakening is full of wide open maps, more than most previous games I believe, and a fair amount of tiles inaccessible to other units. Their mobility is SO useful and easy to thrown into the middle of whatever skirmish you need back up on. They're not the strongest one on one, but strength does not necessarily make the best unit. Because I usually have fliers swoop in to finish of some straggler they get kill Exp gain which, with my strategy, makes them level up quicker than most. I had to take Sumia out of my main group repeatedly because she kept stealing people's elthunder.
I love Frederick's character. Rarely went into any main story battle without him. Not only did I level him to max, I reclassed him into a Wyvern Rider maxed him out again then promoted him into a Wyvern Lord and maxed him out once more. All within the confines of a classical playthrough... yeah I'm sort of a masochist as far as this game goes.
10: Donnie? For real? I had to laugh, since he's the most OP character in the game, if you train him correctly. I agree that he's "very frail" in the beginning. But if you're used to "recruit" characters from previous games, you know you got a little goldmine siting there. 9: You only need a bulletproof vest for that one... because he's so low on the list. He's the Seth, the Marcus, the... ah you get it. Each game has an early-access Paladin who has the single worst stat growth ever. He's too low on this list because he's too bloody awful. In the early chapters he usurps all the experience for the other characters and in later levels he just dies. All. The. Time. 8: Why only one? Seriously, like in all previous FE games, it's the intention that you use both knight characters as a team. You need to play them together. When their support starts to skyrocket, you have the best duo to soak damage (like in that mission to obtain your nr. 6) 7: No argument here. Muriel is one of the worst casters in the game, only second to Laurent. And Ricken? I thought he was a recruit-character like Donnel (but in Mage-form, similar to Sacred Stones). Had to see my disappointment when that wasn't the case and Ricken just ended up having mediocre stat growth. 6: Only this low? I think she could be my number 1 or 2. She's one of the few characters I openly ignored to obtain in all my playthroughs. 5: Oh, where's the love? Granted, she's a very easily destroyed character. But I enjoy playing with the Pegasi knight. Not the best character, but still a decent team-up with the other fliers. 4: She's more funny than useful. Not the greatest troubadour to appear in the game franchise. Still, the more difficult your settings, the more happy you'll be to have two healers on the team this early. 3: As a character, I love Virion and his smug attitude. But as one of my chess pieces, he's just awful. And it's not the archer class. Noire is just an amazing archer. Virion... he's just awful. 2: Olivia: Well, if you keep her as a dancer, she's not great indeed. But my Olivia had amazing luck stats and after turning her into an assassin, she had earned her spot on my team. (even if the combination of the character and function don't blend that well if you look at it). 1: Brady: No argument here, though there are worst characters (Frederick, Muriel, Laurent and Ricken).
@Heemin Gamin Station I think your review is decent overall, though I would have to call you out on an error I made myself when I was really new to the game. It's the absence of rescue staves. fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Rescue_%28staff%29 This item is one of the best tools to get characters out of harms way in otherwise hopeless situations. It's expensive yes, but you do get a huge amount of exp (40 per use?) every time you do use it. I don't know how one could reliably save Maribelle and Ricken in their introductory chapter on Lunatic+ otherwise. Applies partly to Gregor/Nowi/Anna and *especially* to Say'ri. Abuse rescue staves and you're fine.
Now, in Brady's defense, I will say that he, as all child characters, starts at level 10, so you can use a Second Seal to reclass him inmediately to, say, a mage or something like that. Plus, if you made Maribelle a Dark Flier and trained her to level 15 he will(unless you screw the skills order) inherit Galeforce, a very valuable skill.
Well, it's your opinion and it's okay, but this is MY opinion, and I just have 2... disagreement. Frederick is one of my strongest units, and in fact, I used it until the end, so I do not consider him bad. And Severa ... well, about she, I'll just say one thing: If you talk like that of my daughter again, I swear I'll cut you in half! (Without speaking seriously, of course. Please, do not kill me). It's just that I have a completely different image of her. She is rude, very rude... when you meet her the first time, but then you realize that she is only hurt, very hurt by the loss of her mother of her time, and this can be checked at the end of the mission, and getting the A grade of support. In fact, it's my second strongest unit in the game only after her sister Morgan. And with regard to path she follows in her mission, well, what do you think is the difficulty of the mission? She, or rather, developers are not stupid, they are only increasing the difficulty. But that's fine, that's your opinion and I gave mine.
Fred is just slightly hard to level ,that's why a lot of people dislike him, but he have great stats overall , revert him back to a base class for faster levelling and promote him again after his stats have grown to your likings, pretty easy
I agree with this list in most cases. Except for Sumia and Severa. I know Severa is a bitch, but shes like that for a reason, plus she has a soft side. Also isn't this list stat and skill based? Severa is a badass I always use her shes awesome with Sol and Astra. Sumia as well, yeah she sucks at the beginning, but train her up, give her Galeforce and Luna as Great Knight and shes a powerhouse
At first I was in shock that Frederick was in the list, but I totally agreed with your opinion that he does obtain exp the slowest than than the other beginner characters(avatar, chrom, lissa, etc). But I did use him for the final battle, and he appeared okay. I don't even know the character from the no. 1 spot, but thanks for the heads up. :D

I mean, you can't deny that she's LITERALLY lolibait and that they used the "she's like 5000 years old!!!111!" excuse so she wouldn't be cut out of the game. She may be older than a rock but that does NOT change the fact that she looks like a 10 year-old, acts like a 10 year-old, yet she's dressed like a stripper and you can still marry her, as well as marry her to other male units including Gregor, who's like, forty. They also say in a support convo that she was forced to do tricks in manakete form being sold around, but I'm PRETTY SURE IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE. She's just so fucked up. They better not make another moe lolibait character like her in FE14. Unit-wise, my least favorite would be units like Vaike and Cherche, since their accuracy is 50/50 and you can never really rely on them.
Really? Her look is all you're judging her for? *sigh* Yeah, she acts like she's a little girl, but haven't you ever thought of her reason for it? Being 1000 years old means that she's most likely lost a lot friends and other important people in her life, while she barely ages no matter how much time passes. Having to suffer through such a thing time and time again would be terrible. The reason why she acts so childish most of the time is likely a cause of her trying to regress back to a child-like mindset in an attempt to be able to look at the world through the naive and innocent eyes of a child again in the hopes that the pain of losing her friends to the passage of time becomes more bearable. Mind you, that's just a theory of mine. In her supports with Nah she says that she deliberately acts childish and playful to cheer up others, so it could just be that as well. Nowi can also act like a responsible adult if she wants to, (like when she tries to make Nah not tire herself out too much during training with the dragon stone) she just doesen't feel like doing so most of the time. Judging her entire character on nothing but her looks is extremely stupid, ignorant, and insulting in my opinion.
It's not just her looks, it's her looks and the way she acts in general. I understand she has reasons for acting like that but those reasons don't excuse the fact that she's still lolibait, something I know she is because of the nature of the Japanese anime and "otaku" industry, and they would do that because they really needed FE:A to make a comeback-- so they put in things that service the fans. I'm not mad at her character but upset with the designers for making her lolibait, they can pull off a childish character without sexaulizing her and having her marry people, they could've done something similar to Tiki in FE11 and FE12. Tiki was a couple thousand years old by then, but still with the appearance and behavior of a child-- they didn't have any marriage options for her, and they didn't make her wear a small top and tiny shorts, not to mention the garter things all the female characters have.

If you haven't played it and has the intension to do so, don't read any further.* While I don't agree that he is, stats wise, a terrible character, I do firmly believe he is, personality wise, one of the worst. I mean, his first action in the game is to trust a complete stranger for no good reason, make him his tactician and ignore the advice of his trustworthy companion, Frederick. Not only that, but he never grows. He never has to make any sacrifice (in fact, a sacrifice is made for him so he doesn't have to make a hard decision.), his idiotic attitude of trusting strangers for no good reason is never addressed or punished in any way. Even when the possibility that his friend, Robin, may kill him and be the sole reason for the apocaliptic future they are trying to avoid, he refuses to take action and orders Lucina not to do anything as well, just because Robin is his friend. I mean, he's a KING now. He's basically exchanging the life of his people, and many others', for a single life. So yeah. I'm not too fond of Chrom either.
garomastervideos (this contains spoilers) I guess I really like Chrom for this reason. Before being a king, he's human. This makes his personality so believable and awesome to me. I kinda compare him to Joel, from The Last of Us in a sense. By the end of the game, he literally trades EVERYONES life in the fucking world to save one kid. If you played that game, you know what I'm saying. That was the morally correct action? Probably not. But those selfish decisions and flaws are what makes a character human and true to himself. But yeah, I agree with you that believing in a stranger was pretty reckless. (PS: not an english speaker, sorry if I made some mistakes)
Clerics like Maribelle and Brady are actually quite special because of how easily they level up. Buy a bunch of Rescues and you quickly have a characters with stats 10 levels higher than most others - then just seal to a more useful class like sage or troubadour and wreck havoc.
The first time I played the game, Miriel as a Sage was actually the MVP of the team. She was a bit frail but she kicked asses, and that's what is important.
for me Cynthia is probably the third strongest character after morgan and Avatar, pretty much on par with Donnel and n_n, i suppose it depends on who her father is thought
Marco Zaccaria Sucks that Cynthia can only have 5 different dads. (MaMU, Chrom, Fredderick, Gaius, Henry) If she had more of a variety of fathers, she could've had the potential to be a more powerful character.
that's true, my Cynthia is Chrom's daughter in this playtrought and she's very strong thought (but still have that low defence against arrows of course, only thing you can do is change class).
So uhh...I accidentally killed both Tharja and Gaius because I didn't know you could recruit them, and In ended up turning Ricken into one of the most BADASS Dark Riders I have ever seen! He can move far (cause you know, horses and stuff) and when he reaches A Proficiency in tomes he can kill almost anything because he has crazy high speed and attacks twice against anything (that isn't also on a horse or a Pegasus/wyvern rider)
Sumia, Maribelle, and Olivia are actually my most powerful characters. How did I manage that? Hours upon hours of training, reclassing and playing causal mode. Also, the dancing Marth bit was more entertaining than it should have been. XD
Funny thing, I married Ricken and Tharja while making Ricken a dark rider or whatever it's called. They could cover great distance while having a high attack power as well
Maribelle is one of the strongest in my team. She is a good supporter and she also has a galeforce. But I had to grind her a lot to push her to be a strong war cleric. On the final chapter, she is the supporter in the final blow.
the thing is, that a list like this is very good for games like Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn, but in Awakening, you can summon some old characters or zombies and grind the shit out of every character which makes the game super easy and every character easily trainable
I agree for the most part... if you don't grind your units. My Ricken is a Sage and both he and Henry have capped magic. Let me just say, Ricken has a higher magic stat and when paired up with Henry, the magic bonus from him made Ricken's magic stat over 60. But let me say, this list was fun to listen to.
In my first playthrough Virion died when Plegia attacked Emmeryn in the castle. But in this playthrough it didn't die once and it's a powerhouse, just keep him away from strong hits and it'll be fine. Maybe it works fine for me because I play quite conservatively xD

Putting Donnel anywhere on this list made me laugh, he easily becomes the strongest character in the game, even stronger than Robin. I thought this video was just going to be a "this character is weak in the beginning so it's bad" video but you redeemed yourself with Fredrick. Honestly I think the only game with a good Jiegan was FE10 with Titania, though Radiant Dawn was quite the misfit with the separate stories, 2 promotions, etc.
He put Donny on the list because of how hard it is to level him up. He even mentioned later on that he can become one of the best characters in the game.

Donnel is overrated, his stat modifiers aren't that great, his only unique skills are aptitude and underdog, and considering you get infinite level ups aptitude is pretty useless.

Otter Hero Noire is an optional character that you obtain very late (debately) in the game, plus she a child character so she beats most 1st gen characters hands down.

8. Fair point, however each one does have noticeable differences, Sully is faster and more skillful, but Stahl is stronger, so they can be pretty devastating together.
7. Not necessarily true. Miriel and Tharja both have the same magic modifier, but Tharja has absolute CRAPTASTIC skill, and coupled with Dark Tomes' horrible hit rate, she ain't gonna be hitting anything soon without being reclassed into a sniper first. Additionally, Miriel has a higher magic stat than Henry, plus she's slightly faster, but less skillful. But on the same note, you're probably going to keep Henry as a Sorcerer anyway, so the skills balance out slightly. Plus, with Miriel being upgraded into a Dark Knight, she performs fairly well, as her defense is patched, her Mov is as high as it can be without Boots, and she can use Levin Swords if you're willing to grind. And honestly, unless they come directly from the Cleric (Or the Troubador) line, healers are not that good because they don't get healtouch, as well as the fact they don't have any prebuilt Staff experience, so I don't feel shame in keeping Miriel as a Dark Knight.
6. Can't argue with that, Severa's a jerk. But, I do feel bad for her, because she only got that way because everyone expected her to be able to do the same stuff as Cordelia (trust me, being compared to relatives is NOT fun), as well as the fact she thought Chrom was more important to Cordelia than herself, so...
5. Yeah, Sumia isn't all too great, considering the fact she has a -2 str cap in a STR BASED CLASS. But, she's better off as a support unit, if not a Dark Flier imo.
4. Frankly, Maribelle feels like she is one of the better healers, mainly because she has Staff experience built up, which I can't stand grinding for. She also has a higher magic growth than Lissa, so she's good if you need a second healer, which frankly I usually do, because Libra and Anna don't have as great magic caps to heal with.
3. Yep, archers are bad in Awakening. And Virion's stats don't exactly help him.
2. Olivia's base class is more of a support unit. If anything, she should be able to help your healers heal faster before the enemy gets to your units, or ferry them slightly farther. And if you get her to power up a bit, she can survive enemy waves so you can send her into the enemy range to help your other units keep killing. She's not meant to go directly into the fray initially, which you seem to think is the only way.
1. Children characters can surpass their parent characters in ability, so in fact, the later in the game you get them, the better they'll be. So frankly, the only potential healer BETTER than Brady ever could be would be a Ricken-fathered Laurent or Noire, and any Morgans produced from said characters.
Some of your reasoning was fair, but some things were overlooked.
PlatinumHeart Just gonna comment on the healer thing. I kept Anna as a trickster (might've gotten the name wrong, I mean the saleswoman that's basically Nurse Joy) and used her as a highly mobile field medic. Like 95% of her earned exp came from healing. Also she was good at avoiding hits so I wasn't afraid to have her up there instead of having like a little camp where I'd send everyone to get healed.
That being said I made Lissa (my wife) into a sage for similar reasons (made her into a front line mage that could heal others if needed)
Red Spooky There is no specific "bad healer" in the game. It's just that normally, classes that don't promote from a magic-class (Trickster, Falcon Knight, etc.) tend to perform poorer than those who do (Sage, War Cleric/Monk, Valkyrie), because their magic stats tend to be lesser due to the fact they need to balance the other stats with it. (War Clerics/Monks have less speed and skill, so they can have more balanced offenses and defenses)
Anna, however is an exception. She does have a positive magic modifier of one, so she can heal better than, say, Gaius. However, she and Gangrel really are like the only decent non-magic-based classed healers. (Even then, I'm not sure if Gangrel has a positive magic modifier. I think it may be a zero.)
Also, Maribelle comes with a Mend staff unlike Anna who only has a Heal staff, so Maribelle can probably heal better than Anna could initially, and Maribelle would probably have an easier time growing than Anna due to the fact Maribelle starts in a base-class instead of a promoted one.

It's only a major plus thing that she's a support unit that can actually counter-attack in that rare case of emergency. Or lend a hand in finishing off a foe herself if the coast is clear for some juicy expy.

Severa is actually my favourite female character xD. It's refreshing to have a character that isn't the typical " Oh I get along with everyone I'm so popular "- type. her mission annoyed me first aswell, but aftsr knowing how to do it, it was quite easy, I would just have someone cast her back ( a healer) with 15 of the calling back magic, then the troops go amd smash stuff, amd then another healer calls her up to the front :D

Kellam I did tactician+Cordelia so severa had access to every female class in the game and could use some obnoxiously poweful skill combos like galeforce (move twice when you get a kill) and lifetaker (heal half of your MAX health every time you get a kill) so in my game Severa is virtually invincible and can easily sweep any of the missions alone.
I actually married Severa out of pure love, eheh.

I can understand why you have Severa on this list with her annoying recruitment mission and her sour attitude, but she truly is a fantastic unit and is kind hearted deep down, especially with her mother, father, and sister.
Donnel Was unkillable in my run. I got him up to the Hero class and he was a fuckin' monster. He was more OP than even Chrom was.

I don't think you're giving Severa enough credit. Yes, she's pricklier than a cactus, but in the level you get her, she only wants to help a villager with a pregnant wife. Plus, you can keep Severa safe with anyone who can hold a staff. Anna, Miriel, Gangrel, and Cordelia can do the job nicely because they can use staves at certain class promotions. Gangrel and Anna can do it already. Plus, I married Cordelia to Gaius. If you can keep Severa out of the line of fire while your other troops clear the road, she actually turns out to be one of the better characters. She has access to the Assassin, Myrmidon, Dark Knight, and Dark Flyer classes, giving her access to Lethality, Lifetaker, Galeforce, Vantage, Armsthrift, and after that, she makes a great hero class. If she survives, she can't be beat.
Donnel becomes a very decent hero if you reclass him at level 30.
How come level 30? His stats are really low as a villager, so you should just go to level 15 to get Underdog and then reclass to Mercenary. He'll cap his stats faster and eventually become a hero.
I just do it at level 30, because he gets a little bit better in the end. Plus having him fight risen with Frederick to level up is really easy.
Oh, for me it was absolute torture even grinding him to level 15, so I found it easier to reclass him as soon possible.

But, I would like to point out that Brady's defense is more or less up to the control of the player, based on the defense stat of his parents and who his father actually is, so he can have good defense. Plus, with some know-how, you can beat his chapter with the use of two characters on the first turn, never putting him in harm's way. On the other hand, he's another healer, and suffers from a similar, if not the same problem as his mother, just now on a greater scale, as you have access to more possible healers than ever before, between Sages, War Clerics, Falcoknights, and Valkyries, making Brady pretty pointless

A Tsundere is often classified as a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing their warm side over time.
They tend to be more aggressive, and can easily push others away, making them tough to approach. They'll even put up a guard when doing something for someone so as not to show weakness.

Ricken as a Dark Mage was one of my strongest characters.
That time when your powerhouse for the entire game was Stahl, and he even beat out Donnell in the long run.

Ricken can actually be an extremely powerful spellcaster and a good dodger when paired with Nowi (because she has high luck and it increases his magic) so I don't mind him so much (Ricken and Nowi are practically almost amazing duo XD )
Sumia and Chrom can be super OP, they dodge practically anything and deliver multiple attacks which is great for me.
If you want Maribelle to "take some hits" (or have someone else do it for her) pair with Donell because his luck stats are high, I love it XD

Yeah I made her a swordmaster to get Astra and on the way she got insane stats and is one of my best units. My other two major powerhouses are Inigo+Noire, meaning they are meant to be paired up. They can each do something on their own, but they're nigh invincible when paired up with S Rank support. That and I gave Inigo Astra and Noire got Vengeance and Renewal.
I can't get Marth to get dancer D:, HELP! was it patch
+redhatkid09 He was joking. King Marth cannot become a dancer. However, he is incredibly overpowered. I'd suggest reclassing him into a Merc to get him armsthrift, pairing him with the other Spotpass Prince Marth, and generally grinding his luck as high as it can go. At that point, Prince Marth will buff him over 50 luck and you can equip a forged brave sword without having any risk of losing it. Ever. At that point, he easily 1-shots virtually everything in the game and Sol's trigger rate makes him almost as tanky as an actual knight.

I agree with almost every placement on this list... except Severa.
I actually like Severa personality wise... in her later supports, she actually shows a lot of development (esp. because she starts out so mean). This is especially clear with her parental supports (and her supports with characters that really annoy her at first, like Inigo).
HOWEVER - I completely agree that the mission to recruit her is the *single worst* in the game. On my first playthrough (which was casual, mind you), I had to wait to get her until I had gone two or three story missions further through the game.
All that said, due to the fact that she's actually a good unit late-game, and she shows good character development, she probably would not make my top ten worst. I probably would have bumped up the rest of the characters on this list and put in Kellam or Kjelle, as I'm not fond of the heavily armored units due to their lack of mobility.
+Kc Clark (Dr. Falchion) I don't know why everyone hates on Paralogue 10! It's my favourite level in Fire Emblem Awakening! Severa's recruitment method is fun, the enemies are really easy and have terrible stats and give you lots of EXP. I've only played in once (:C) but I had a blast (I did Paralogue 10 after beating Chapter 14)!
Air tempest A big part of the issue wasn't so much that the enemies were straight-up difficult, but that Severa has such a headstart on you. I had to wait a little while to get more units with high mobility (and to train up my fliers, as they were somewhat underused at that point in my playthrough) in order to finish it. Not only that, but even once you reach her with Chrom or Cordelia she stays as a CPU and rushes in, forcing you to rush in ahead and try to kill everything before they kill her - this proves especially difficult with the winding walls within the castle that allow ranged units to attack her before you can even reach them.
In retrospect, no, its not as ridiculously unfair or difficult as I felt it was when I originally made this post, but I was ill-prepared for it when I first attempted it, PLUS its difficulty doesn't actually come from anything related to my skill, since I have no control over Severa's actions.
I liked the video just for that introduction. :3
I relied heavily on Virion throughout. Get him to S rank and married to Panne and keep them together on the field. The evasion bonuses are so good that defense won't matter. I almost never got hit by anything coming his way lol

You make very valid points in every of these characters. Though! I myself had my MU who I reclassed to sage use a rescue staff to keep severa back while everyone else killed the enemies.
Btw, Olivia can grind up to LV 30 on the level you get get her (if you have the patience) because the fighters won't attack until you move into enemy range.

Because she's paired with my Avatar (who is a Wyvern Lord) and she has 53 power (45 without) and she has over 70 avoid. SHE WILL KILL ANYONE! SHE DOES 36 DAMAGE PER HIT WITH ONLY A STEEL SWORD! I might make her a Swordmaster again because I don't use her dancing skill that often (By the way, in this playthough for Olivia, not the other two, I've only beaten the Premotion to Chapter 13 and I've beaten Daughter To Dragons, Ruined By Time, A Man Of Flowers and A Shot In The Dark. My Nah is a level 1 Manakete with Quick Burn, Patience, Sol, Swordbreaker and Axebreaker and both of my Avatar/Olivia's kids have Swordfaire and Swordbreaker, which is good because they both use swords. My Noire inherited Vengeance and Rally Luck which is good since the Sniper class doesn't get any Rally skills. Nah has the highest rating of my team so far with a 256, before Chapter 14 LOL.). Also, Brady is probably the best Trickster in the game (Fem! Morgan X Brady) and in one playthough, my Maribelle was my tank on Wellspring Of Truth. FRICKING WELLSPRING OF TRUTH! Keep in mind that I already had Lissa as a Sage when I recruited Maribelle (I dropped Lissa from my team after around chapter 14).
I personally disagree with the list because I use different strategies where I can get them all to survive on classic mode. I always use all the female characters no matter how much they suck because with grinding and a husband with decent stats/growth rates, their kids turn out fine.
But the "worst" character for me is either Miriel, Olivia (only because if you level her up and get her to be a great offensive unit, she loses her dancing ability and then she gets super weak once you reclass her back to dancer), or Vaike. But I have found ways to make them better and stronger.
I mean dancers aren't the most offensive units in fire emblem
I think that in 90% of fire emblem games all archers can be called bad... "But Matt, they have good growths! Look at Rebecca!" Growths don't mean anything with a weapon that restricts you so much. Literally any Mage will outclass an archer
I think he should have said that this list only applies BEFORE the end game. Any character can become amazing with the right skills, class routes, parents, etc. He focuses on how the characters are going through the story.
Every fire emblem character is amazing if you put the effort into making them better
When that type of thinking is applied, the thing that matters most is a character's skill set.
New top five include:
Avatar. Access to all normal classes for his or her gender make most skill sets possible.
Tharja. Just enough available classes to become a one woman army.
Lucina (Daughter of Olivia, Avatar, or Sully): Combine Rightful King with Luna, Aether, Lethality, and Astra for massive skill activations. Or substitute Lethality with Galeforce to increase turn rating and movement potential.
Morgan. He/She has access to all of the things that the avatar does, plus access to one exclusive class and one skill from the opposite gender.
Noire. Same as her mother, but factor in her father's inheritance.
Minty Spo0ky Yes, Maribelle is VERY useful...not. Miriel is frail as hell and her personality, no better.
At least we could hate characters for their personality, unlike Fates. Don't get me wrong, I love the game... but some of them just barely even have a personality.

I think their lack of personality is due to the sheer amount of characters there are in Fates. There are still some great characters (Elise, Niles, etc.), but too many of them are just bland. The amount of characters also had an unfortunate effect on supports, as they were also very bland compared to Awakening. Hopefully the next FE game will focus on giving its characters more developed personalities.
I think it's due to the localization. I read some support conversations and Chapter paralogues (translated in English, I don't speak weeaboo) and the characters seem more alive, in a way. They were way too similar. I think Soleil and Niles were probably the most alive, personality wise, because of how different from the others they are.
"They only give you so much experience..." Bruh it's an open map where you can literally summon teams to farm and grind for experience. Any character can become at least decent.
It was actually inaccurate when he said that the only archer is Virion. Tharja's daughter, Noire, is an archer and one of my personal favorites.

Relax severa is one of my most powerful units too and the blunt somewhat rude tone she has is understandable and attractive in my opinion
+Relax Severa is written as a tsundere character (for those who don't know, a tsundere is a character [boy or girl] who is a complete bitch on the outside to hide his/her true character, which is most of the time actually very friendly and even shy.). I think the most hate for Severa comes from people not knowing about this, or like you said, not finishing her stories - or maybe hating the tsundere trope overall. I myself, don't like tsundere's, they are used way to often in a lot of japanese media (be it anime, manga or games) and it get's annoying over time to see a tsundere, like, every two minutes. But some of them are tollerable enough to dig deeper into their past/character and Severa is one of them, which is why I love her alot and why she is pretty much ALLWAYS my MaleMU's daughter, besides Morgan of cause. :) - Plus if I was allways compared to my mother (or other family members) without ever beeing able to shine on my own, I would get pissed at the world too.
tldr.: Severa is a tsundere - hard on the outside but soft on the inside - play her supports till the end and THEN decide if you still don't like her. ;)

The reasoning behind Brady is null when you realize he starts right next to your team and can easily be recruited turn one, access the convoy, grab a Master Seal, use it to promote to a War Monk or Sage, as well as take a weapon for whatever class you choose to promote to from the convoy.

I agree with a lot of people on this list, especially in no-grind runs, but Frederick being on here is inaccurate for a no-grind run. In Lunatic+/Classic YOU MUST rely on him on the early chapters. After chapter 5-6, he does become obsolete compared to Robin, but the sheer usefulness of him up till then should automatically wipe his name from this list. In any other difficulty, I would understand. Olivia is the most useful character in a grind-run. Seriously. She can make Apotheosis look like a joke. She is even useful in no-grind runs and Lunatic+/Classic.
I used Frederick in the final battle. I just did a whole bunch of grinding.
And I use both Stahl and Sully, just let Kellam be a benchwarmer.
grinding only can help you so much. especially if you play Lunatic +. although I won't lie. I felt bad not using Frederick, even though we had so many memories of destroying chapters.
I TRIED to level that guy up. I really did! But it just took WAY too long. I ended up changing him to cavalier class just so mages wouldn't one or two-shot him. It's hard to be motivated to level him up when your avatar is a hero with max stats, armshrift, ignus, and solus. And Rally. Then there's Donnel.

The thing is with him however is that he can be a healer only for his chapter if you want. Just give him a strong unit to protect him, complete the map, and use a second seal to make him a class that would suit him better depending on the father.

I took an axe and a seal into the level with me so he could jump right into the fight with his parents, I tried doing that on multiple child recruitment levels and found things went much better.
*quietly raises hand* It's easier to get Severa if you use Rescue on her a few times until you have the hallway cleared out. And it can also get her to go down the other hallway if you pull her back far enough.

I don't know if anyone else knows of this, but in chapter 13, instead of killing the commander, use Olivia to dance for whoever you want to pair her with. Just do that until she's level 30 (I think that's the max for dancer) and you have an Olivia that can destroy everything. It'll probably take 200 or something turns to get to max and 100 something for 20. Good luck and be patient.

also works for most healers, you just corner some enemies with frederick or any tanky guy and unequip their weapons, then just let them get hit and heal them till the enemies dont have weapons left. This is a necessity on lunatic and makes most characters that can be healers just so much more valueable
Well... don't make fun of me please, I don't play lunatic, or hard mode, but if I did, I would try that. It's quite genius.
Colin Bosarge you don't have to play lunatic cause it will just make you cry if you don't know what you're doing, but I advice that you play on hard mode, it will really push your strategy skills because you haven't really played fire emblem without trying the more brutal difficulties and at the end if you beat the game, you really know you're a pro :D just saying. Normal mode is way too easy, I remember just putting Tharja paired with Kellam in the middle of the battlefield and she destroys every enemy unit with just Ruin lol
I actually like Severa's personality in the late supports (A and S level) she is a lot nicer in those and reveals that the only reason she acted so harsh was because she didn't want to become attatched to her mother again just to lose her again and have to suffer through all of her grief again. Also she is considered to possibly be the best unit in the game because of her absurd stat caps when compared to the rest of the cast, even the other well bred children and a maxed out Donnel can not compare. If if didn't force you to drag Chrom along, I would have killed Grima with just Severa alone on hard classic difficulty.
Maribelle's resistance as a troubadour is absoluteley ridiculous, and I love her for it! Great video though, since I felt you backed up your opinions nicely.
There is no character I want to backhand more than Severa.
Don't get me wrong, I like how they made a character who doesn't get along with everyone, but she's a straight up BITCH. I've also never had a use for Mercenaries. Gregor and Inigo both got reclassed as soon as I got them.

I love flying units, including Sumia. Awakening is full of wide open maps, more than most previous games I believe, and a fair amount of tiles inaccessible to other units. Their mobility is SO useful and easy to thrown into the middle of whatever skirmish you need back up on. They're not the strongest one on one, but strength does not necessarily make the best unit. Because I usually have fliers swoop in to finish of some straggler they get kill Exp gain which, with my strategy, makes them level up quicker than most. I had to take Sumia out of my main group repeatedly because she kept stealing people's elthunder.
This was a unique and interesting list, I wonder how it would be the other way around with the top 10 BEST characters.
If you make Frederick a wyvern lord, he is pretty good
I'm not hating on this list at all, but Ricken was really good for me, especially when paired with the dragon shifter.
Donnel is 100% a top 5 character, but i pretty much agree with your top 5 worst. This video was also more entertaining than i expected it to be.
I love Frederick's character. Rarely went into any main story battle without him. Not only did I level him to max, I reclassed him into a Wyvern Rider maxed him out again then promoted him into a Wyvern Lord and maxed him out once more. All within the confines of a classical playthrough... yeah I'm sort of a masochist as far as this game goes.
10: Donnie? For real? I had to laugh, since he's the most OP character in the game, if you train him correctly. I agree that he's "very frail" in the beginning. But if you're used to "recruit" characters from previous games, you know you got a little goldmine siting there.
9: You only need a bulletproof vest for that one... because he's so low on the list. He's the Seth, the Marcus, the... ah you get it. Each game has an early-access Paladin who has the single worst stat growth ever. He's too low on this list because he's too bloody awful. In the early chapters he usurps all the experience for the other characters and in later levels he just dies. All. The. Time.
8: Why only one? Seriously, like in all previous FE games, it's the intention that you use both knight characters as a team. You need to play them together. When their support starts to skyrocket, you have the best duo to soak damage (like in that mission to obtain your nr. 6)
7: No argument here. Muriel is one of the worst casters in the game, only second to Laurent. And Ricken? I thought he was a recruit-character like Donnel (but in Mage-form, similar to Sacred Stones). Had to see my disappointment when that wasn't the case and Ricken just ended up having mediocre stat growth.
6: Only this low? I think she could be my number 1 or 2. She's one of the few characters I openly ignored to obtain in all my playthroughs.
5: Oh, where's the love? Granted, she's a very easily destroyed character. But I enjoy playing with the Pegasi knight. Not the best character, but still a decent team-up with the other fliers.
4: She's more funny than useful. Not the greatest troubadour to appear in the game franchise. Still, the more difficult your settings, the more happy you'll be to have two healers on the team this early.
3: As a character, I love Virion and his smug attitude. But as one of my chess pieces, he's just awful. And it's not the archer class. Noire is just an amazing archer. Virion... he's just awful.
2: Olivia: Well, if you keep her as a dancer, she's not great indeed. But my Olivia had amazing luck stats and after turning her into an assassin, she had earned her spot on my team. (even if the combination of the character and function don't blend that well if you look at it).

This item is one of the best tools to get characters out of harms way in otherwise hopeless situations. It's expensive yes, but you do get a huge amount of exp (40 per use?) every time you do use it. I don't know how one could reliably save Maribelle and Ricken in their introductory chapter on Lunatic+ otherwise. Applies partly to Gregor/Nowi/Anna and *especially* to Say'ri.
Abuse rescue staves and you're fine.
Now, in Brady's defense, I will say that he, as all child characters, starts at level 10, so you can use a Second Seal to reclass him inmediately to, say, a mage or something like that. Plus, if you made Maribelle a Dark Flier and trained her to level 15 he will(unless you screw the skills order) inherit Galeforce, a very valuable skill.
The ability to change classes means you can turn almost any character into a power house.
Well, it's your opinion and it's okay, but this is MY opinion, and I just have 2... disagreement. Frederick is one of my strongest units, and in fact, I used it until the end, so I do not consider him bad. And Severa ... well, about she, I'll just say one thing: If you talk like that of my daughter again, I swear I'll cut you in half! (Without speaking seriously, of course. Please, do not kill me). It's just that I have a completely different image of her. She is rude, very rude... when you meet her the first time, but then you realize that she is only hurt, very hurt by the loss of her mother of her time, and this can be checked at the end of the mission, and getting the A grade of support. In fact, it's my second strongest unit in the game only after her sister Morgan.
And with regard to path she follows in her mission, well, what do you think is the difficulty of the mission? She, or rather, developers are not stupid, they are only increasing the difficulty.
But that's fine, that's your opinion and I gave mine.

Fred is just slightly hard to level ,that's why a lot of people dislike him, but he have great stats overall
, revert him back to a base class for faster levelling and promote him again after his stats have grown to your likings, pretty easy

I know Severa is a bitch, but shes like that for a reason, plus she has a soft side.
Also isn't this list stat and skill based? Severa is a badass I always use her shes awesome with Sol and Astra.
Sumia as well, yeah she sucks at the beginning, but train her up, give her Galeforce and Luna as Great Knight and shes a powerhouse
At first I was in shock that Frederick was in the list, but I totally agreed with your opinion that he does obtain exp the slowest than than the other beginner characters(avatar, chrom, lissa, etc). But I did use him for the final battle, and he appeared okay. I don't even know the character from the no. 1 spot, but thanks for the heads up. :D

If we were talking about the characters as, well, characters instead of as units, I'd say Nowi is up there with Severa. I mean, you can't deny that she's LITERALLY lolibait and that they used the "she's like 5000 years old!!!111!" excuse so she wouldn't be cut out of the game. She may be older than a rock but that does NOT change the fact that she looks like a 10 year-old, acts like a 10 year-old, yet she's dressed like a stripper and you can still marry her, as well as marry her to other male units including Gregor, who's like, forty. They also say in a support convo that she was forced to do tricks in manakete form being sold around, but I'm PRETTY SURE IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE. She's just so fucked up. They better not make another moe lolibait character like her in FE14.
Unit-wise, my least favorite would be units like Vaike and Cherche, since their accuracy is 50/50 and you can never really rely on them.
Really? Her look is all you're judging her for? *sigh* Yeah, she acts like she's a little girl, but haven't you ever thought of her reason for it? Being 1000 years old means that she's most likely lost a lot friends and other important people in her life, while she barely ages no matter how much time passes.
Having to suffer through such a thing time and time again would be terrible. The reason why she acts so childish most of the time is likely a cause of her trying to regress back to a child-like mindset in an attempt to be able to look at the world through the naive and innocent eyes of a child again in the hopes that the pain of losing her friends to the passage of time becomes more bearable.
Mind you, that's just a theory of mine. In her supports with Nah she says that she deliberately acts childish and playful to cheer up others, so it could just be that as well.
Nowi can also act like a responsible adult if she wants to, (like when she tries to make Nah not tire herself out too much during training with the dragon stone) she just doesen't feel like doing so most of the time. Judging her entire character on nothing but her looks is extremely stupid, ignorant, and insulting in my opinion.
It's not just her looks, it's her looks and the way she acts in general. I understand she has reasons for acting like that but those reasons don't excuse the fact that she's still lolibait, something I know she is because of the nature of the Japanese anime and "otaku" industry, and they would do that because they really needed FE:A to make a comeback-- so they put in things that service the fans. I'm not mad at her character but upset with the designers for making her lolibait, they can pull off a childish character without sexaulizing her and having her marry people, they could've done something similar to Tiki in FE11 and FE12. Tiki was a couple thousand years old by then, but still with the appearance and behavior of a child-- they didn't have any marriage options for her, and they didn't make her wear a small top and tiny shorts, not to mention the garter things all the female characters have.

Shiida I just don't see it. For all we know, she wears those clothes because her body temperature is naturally higher than most people's and she'd sweat to death in anything else.

While I don't agree that he is, stats wise, a terrible character, I do firmly believe he is, personality wise, one of the worst.
I mean, his first action in the game is to trust a complete stranger for no good reason, make him his tactician and ignore the advice of his trustworthy companion, Frederick. Not only that, but he never grows. He never has to make any sacrifice (in fact, a sacrifice is made for him so he doesn't have to make a hard decision.), his idiotic attitude of trusting strangers for no good reason is never addressed or punished in any way.
Even when the possibility that his friend, Robin, may kill him and be the sole reason for the apocaliptic future they are trying to avoid, he refuses to take action and orders Lucina not to do anything as well, just because Robin is his friend. I mean, he's a KING now. He's basically exchanging the life of his people, and many others', for a single life.
So yeah. I'm not too fond of Chrom either.

I guess I really like Chrom for this reason. Before being a king, he's human. This makes his personality so believable and awesome to me.
I kinda compare him to Joel, from The Last of Us in a sense. By the end of the game, he literally trades EVERYONES life in the fucking world to save one kid. If you played that game, you know what I'm saying. That was the morally correct action? Probably not. But those selfish decisions and flaws are what makes a character human and true to himself.
But yeah, I agree with you that believing in a stranger was pretty reckless.

Clerics like Maribelle and Brady are actually quite special because of how easily they level up. Buy a bunch of Rescues and you quickly have a characters with stats 10 levels higher than most others - then just seal to a more useful class like sage or troubadour and wreck havoc.
The first time I played the game, Miriel as a Sage was actually the MVP of the team. She was a bit frail but she kicked asses, and that's what is important.

Marco Zaccaria Sucks that Cynthia can only have 5 different dads. (MaMU, Chrom, Fredderick, Gaius, Henry) If she had more of a variety of fathers, she could've had the potential to be a more powerful character.
that's true, my Cynthia is Chrom's daughter in this playtrought and she's very strong thought (but still have that low defence against arrows of course, only thing you can do is change class).
So uhh...I accidentally killed both Tharja and Gaius because I didn't know you could recruit them, and In ended up turning Ricken into one of the most BADASS Dark Riders I have ever seen! He can move far (cause you know, horses and stuff) and when he reaches A Proficiency in tomes he can kill almost anything because he has crazy high speed and attacks twice against anything (that isn't also on a horse or a Pegasus/wyvern rider)
Best Dark knight would have to be the Avatar, easily, if you make them have a good magic stat, it's basically a Tactician on Horseback.
Sumia, Maribelle, and Olivia are actually my most powerful characters. How did I manage that? Hours upon hours of training, reclassing and playing causal mode.
Also, the dancing Marth bit was more entertaining than it should have been. XD
Although Brady is my sweet child, I can't deny that his starting stats were absolutely SHIIIIIT.
Funny thing, I married Ricken and Tharja while making Ricken a dark rider or whatever it's called. They could cover great distance while having a high attack power as well
Maribelle is one of the strongest in my team. She is a good supporter and she also has a galeforce. But I had to grind her a lot to push her to be a strong war cleric. On the final chapter, she is the supporter in the final blow.

the thing is, that a list like this is very good for games like Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn, but in Awakening, you can summon some old characters or zombies and grind the shit out of every character which makes the game super easy and every character easily trainable
I agree for the most part... if you don't grind your units. My Ricken is a Sage and both he and Henry have capped magic. Let me just say, Ricken has a higher magic stat and when paired up with Henry, the magic bonus from him made Ricken's magic stat over 60.
But let me say, this list was fun to listen to.
In my first playthrough Virion died when Plegia attacked Emmeryn in the castle. But in this playthrough it didn't die once and it's a powerhouse, just keep him away from strong hits and it'll be fine. Maybe it works fine for me because I play quite conservatively xD
