It's SO hard in these smaller areas when everyone knows everyone and their Mom, plus all the times you've been given help for this stuff.
He knows Kate needs help, has had help, if she doesn't get more help, she's going to die or get 35 years in prison. Her mama will die while she's in DOCS. 🤦🏻‍♀️💔

I checked the court records. She was sentenced to 97 days on the first count, and 7 days on the second. With probation. She had already been in for 7 total by sentencing on the 21st (I think including the initial arrest). So that left 90 days on count 1, and nothing on count 2. He also allowed that she could be released to rehab instead of finishing her jail time, on the condition that she could not be released from rehab unless discharged (so no checking herself out). Very lenient and helpful.

    • @kristinakoltyk8521

Legally he can't order that though. I'm not sure about other states, but I live in Michigan and there is so such thing as a rehab you can't check yourself out of. They may issue a warrant if she checks herself out A.M.A but they can't force her to stay there.

Yes thank you Mike, for covering this, a little levity after a trying day covering Brooks sentencing. It made my heart break listening to the victims especially the children. The disgusting disrespectful behaviour to the victims whilst giving impact victims statements made me want to as one victim said punch him in the face. Brooks hates being told that he has no power, I loved how when he tried to apologise at the end of todays impact statements to the judge, the judge actually said it should be the victims he apologise to rather than the court.

Let me explain..I violated, went to jail for 3 months, was released on bond, returned to court 2 months later for follow-up, took the faulty test and went back to jail for the 43 days, got released, went back to court in June and they finally convicted me with the violation. Judge Middleton didn't actually ask her, "how do you plead?" to the two misdemeanors. She never said "guilty" or "no contest."

The cases where the defendants get thrown in jail are by far my favorites. I always worried about Middleton'
cases when that happens though cause half of them usually talk him out of it.
He's way too lenient and the defendants know that ( it doesn't help that he's known them their whole life ) and that's why they're in/out of his courtroom 20 times! That's what needs to happen to all defendants after a couple of chances!

I heard stories about how people would break the law on purpose so they could go to jail. This was up in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, where winter temps can approach -70⁰f!!! I can't say that I blame them if they've got nowhere to go!

As a recovering addict I can tell you there are really no dangers when coming down from meth, in comparison to other drugs like heroin/opiates & alcohol. When you come down off meth all you basically do is sleep, eat, & shit & not necessarily in that order. ;) Out of any drug, I’d much rather come down from meth than anything else.

I think she went in there high & thought she’d have an opportunity to wean off it some before going to jail. The thought of the cold-turkey aspect of it is what terrified her. But cold-turkey with these hard drugs can be life threatening, so I hope they have the tools to help wean her off.
