You know it genuinely hurts Judge Middleton’s heart to see these people he’s watched grow up turn out like this. He knows everyone and their dog in that community. 😕
I knew it was personal and she'd been through the system when I heard the absolute defeat in his voice. It's SO hard in these smaller areas when everyone knows everyone and their Mom, plus all the times you've been given help for this stuff. He knows Kate needs help, has had help, if she doesn't get more help, she's going to die or get 35 years in prison. Her mama will die while she's in DOCS. 🤦🏻♀️💔
Yeah but u can’t be involved in their court because if u do to them u have to do to all I think it not fair that he stated he not gonna take her plead but I seen him put ppl away with the same thing
My aunt is a judge and has that take too. She’s seen so much addiction, and knows when people need. She can tell when people can be helped and sense when they are probably beyond help.
Thank you, Mike for airing this. I love Judge Middleton. Even when he is stern, he manages to be kind. I wish that I had his gift of tolerance and kindness.
"That's not what I wanted", "That's not what I am here for". Did she think that they were just hanging out? I love it when criminals act all surprised when they are told they have to go to jail.
I checked the court records. She was sentenced to 97 days on the first count, and 7 days on the second. With probation. She had already been in for 7 total by sentencing on the 21st (I think including the initial arrest). So that left 90 days on count 1, and nothing on count 2. He also allowed that she could be released to rehab instead of finishing her jail time, on the condition that she could not be released from rehab unless discharged (so no checking herself out). Very lenient and helpful.
Legally he can't order that though. I'm not sure about other states, but I live in Michigan and there is so such thing as a rehab you can't check yourself out of. They may issue a warrant if she checks herself out A.M.A but they can't force her to stay there.
@@kristinakoltyk8521 That may be what is intended by the order. While it said no checkout before either the 90 days or when the facility clears her, that might have been an order for her, not for the facility, so a violation if she doesn't follow through.

The cases where the defendants get thrown in jail are by far my favorites. I always worried about Middleton' cases when that happens though cause half of them usually talk him out of it. He's way too lenient and the defendants know that ( it doesn't help that he's known them their whole life ) and that's why they're in/out of his courtroom 20 times! That's what needs to happen to all defendants after a couple of chances!
That really broke my heart to see that young woman, addiction can really just destroy you. I hope she gets clean. She deserves to live a long, full life

As a recovering addict I can tell you there are really no dangers when coming down from meth, in comparison to other drugs like heroin/opiates & alcohol. When you come down off meth all you basically do is sleep, eat, & shit & not necessarily in that order. ;) Out of any drug, I’d much rather come down from meth than anything else.
I think she went in there high & thought she’d have an opportunity to wean off it some before going to jail. The thought of the cold-turkey aspect of it is what terrified her. But cold-turkey with these hard drugs can be life threatening, so I hope they have the tools to help wean her off.

The worst fake crying I've ever heard. She needs a wake up call or her mother will be planning her funeral.
Judge Middleton didn't actually ask her, "how do you plead?" to the two misdemeanors. She never said "guilty" or "no contest."
The cases where the defendants get thrown in jail are by far my favorites. I always worried about Middleton'
cases when that happens though cause half of them usually talk him out of it.
He's way too lenient and the defendants know that ( it doesn't help that he's known them their whole life ) and that's why they're in/out of his courtroom 20 times! That's what needs to happen to all defendants after a couple of chances!
Who thought jail could be so inconvenient?
Seriously Officer Dibble! Where's Top Cat? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He’s so kind and meth just wrecks lives.
The defense attorney really doesn't have much to work with... I guess that's why "he has a good address" keeps coming up.
😂
That really broke my heart to see that young woman, addiction can really just destroy you. I hope she gets clean. She deserves to live a long, full life
With all the multiple arrests the defendants keep getting they must like the daily free meals and comfy jail beds.
I heard stories about how people would break the law on purpose so they could go to jail. This was up in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, where winter temps can approach -70⁰f!!! I can't say that I blame them if they've got nowhere to go!
That's not what I wanted....that's not what I'm here for. So sad!
30-40 years for possession of meth is outrageous even if it’s 3rd offense
Mike always knows how to throw in a little levity after an emotional roller coaster day 👍
Wow, that broke Judge Middleton's heart!!!
In 2023, I have learned about green boxes and that Fulton County is a no-no!
Hahahaha that dance... looked like one of the lollipop kids from wizard of oz..😂
Keep the videos coming, Mike! You keep me sane on the long commute to work and the way home! Not gonna lie, kinda jealous I’m not part of the live.
She didn't know that pleading guilty to major charges would result in jail time? Lol
haha John needs some sun! I though for several minutes he was a defendant waiting for his turn lol!
Damn judge Middleton saved her ass by deciding she must be high really
"Averaging two arrests per year" Ouch.
If a judge ever told me I was breaking their heart I think I would fall apart.
He's a very kind, caring person. Judges are humans too. With feelings. Especially when they live n smaller areas & know everyone
Drugs are BAD n Michigan all over. My cousin is in jail in Michigan right now for having meth, heroin, fent, etc on her. Smh. & she od-d. It's sad. Judge has likely know many who've died from addiction
