I live on the border to Canada. Can't tell you how many things I've been able to witness because of Canadian TV, including watching the 1980 Olympic victory over Russia live in ice hockey over UHF. Add this to it. Who else would have recorded this? I'm shocked even the Canadians did.
It was a real good time. First time I heard the doors was July 67. First time I saw them was on TV Sept. 67. I could not believe what I was seeing. I listened to doors albums from Dec. 67- July 69. A great period. They cooled down a bit and then Morrison hotel and LA woman. Jim was then soon gone. But great memories. One of the greatest rock bands ever.
This is the best live version...the muted drumming and the guitar at the very beginning and at the very end is sooo damn harmonic... Been my favorite song since 1982
And to think this was the same year The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper. Shows you how all these artists really put their foot in their work at one point.
To think as a 14yr old GenXer after having first discovered the Doors back in 1981, I used to take the TTC Carlton (street)car east to Yonge street to buy Doors albums at Sam's/A&A's or Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum. But what I never realized was that while i was traveling there I was literally passing less than 100' from where the Doors performed for this video .(409 Parliament Street )The building is still there for those wanting to google map it.

Here's a fact. Jim ,Ray and Robby all dropped acid before this performance. John densmore didn't and he was pissed off. Look at Ray and Robby during the ride the snake bit. High as kites.
@@mchorchos They would never go on stage high? Would they Mike.? Not these nice lads. Actually it was common knowledge that they dropped acid before they went on stage, and Jim was also prone to drink alcohol heavily before a show. I can just tell by how Jim, Raymond, and Robbie look and act that they were completely gilled to the nine's on acid. If you look closely and listen to his drumming John Densmore was pissed off just like the other guy said. Still a great performance tho.
@@thomasgary1219 I'm familiar with the Doors history, and I know they did acid off-stage, and perhaps on the early shows at Whisky and Matrix, but I doubt they all are high here [they knew it will be broadcasted].
I guess the Doors had a "cleaned-up" version of this song and here it is....... no kill the father..... no sex with mother....... it's part of the "lyrical tailspin" thats missing............

Etymologically speaking in artistic interpretation, it sounds like he is speaking history... this is indeed the end... as the Pleistocene Epoch ended ~13000 years ago and we are living ou this last ice age cycle as we enter another Triassic Epoch not seen since the Dinosaurs roamed the Earth...
This is Toronto 1967 not The Whiskey A go go in LA. Jim got kicked out of there permanently for those lyrics. Maybe he was a bit cautious about it at the time. I'm sure he would have liked to sing those lyrics for Ed Sullivan though.
