When he says “he walked on down the hallway baby Ohhh!” That line is the epitome of Jim Morrison.. an explosion at the end of every thought the man ever had.
This performance, Hollywood Bowl, Stockholm '68 and Isle of Wight performances of this song are the best in my opinion. The doors in the studio were a monster and the band live was an ancient creature busted out of its tomb to spread the word of wisdom and darkness .
Who remembers where they were the first time it was announced that Morrison had died? I was sixteen coming home from the beach in Chicago. The best voice ever in rock. The most unique band ever. I've been listening to the Doors since they first started playing. They never fail to blow my mind. Love them live.
I was at my sister's apartment outside Washington D.C. when I heard on a radio she had on that Jim had died in Paris the day before. I was very sad because I had always enjoyed The Doors music. Even though I was just a young kid I knew Morrison and the music of The Doors was something unique.
I enjoy the music of The Doors much more than that of Dylan or The Beatles. I almost never listen to those two, but I listen to The Doors almost daily. Jim could sing much better than any of The Beatles or Bob Dylan. They are very important acts though to be sure. Hendrix was influenced to a degree by Dylan.
If you can remember these lyrics after hearing them for the first time when you are 18 and are now 62 then you know this is more than a weird scene inside a gold mine. This band made me forget disco forever and saved my rock and roll soul. He died on my birthday and I visited his grave in Paris to leave a note wrapped around a cork from a bottle of wine that I drank specifically for him. This was in 1997 and there were many people looking for his gravestone and for some reason people asked me where to find his grave. They didn't even speak English but they all wanted to visit the site. The opening scene from the film Apocolypse Now with this song was fantastic. I sat through the film twice while I was in an art school film class.
Not sure I understand your comment… He was by all means both… look up “an American prayer“, his collection of poetry/philosophy that’s, by anybody’s standards, first rate.

Hi from Argentina
This is why he tends to be a big inspiration for a lot of punk bands
Usually, this was the last song or in front of soul kitchen, which was the last.
Great version. Love it. Happy Birthday Jim Morrison! Dec 8th, now 2024. Blessed to listen. Ty for sharing.

morrisonien it depends on how you look at The End sometimes the end of things are good but no doubt this song is very mysterious
morrisonien : Actually, I think that honor would go to "Frankie Teardrop" by Suicide. Honestly.
I have to agree with that statement

Desperately in need
Of some stranger's hand
In a desperate land
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's Highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake, he's long, seven miles
Ride the snake
He's old and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is calling us

He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
"Father?" "Yes, son?" "I want to kill you"
"Mother? I want to..."
Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill
This is the end
