It's not like in other parts of the world were the price comes down because mass of people are buying on volume. Yet at the same time people in Canada complain if the population gets too big and then also complain things are too expensive because of the lack of population.

Actually it depends on how many trips you're planning to make. I'd say that if you only make 2-3 trips in total, you can pay per ride by purchasing a ticket from the vending machine. If you go back and forth a lot and want the flexibility, I'd recommend presto. Presto card is one-card-per-person. You can not share it between several people when used at the same time. Here's another option if you have a slightly larger budget. 4 people can share an uber, so instead of paying 3+ *4 = around $13-14, you can use that for a 5-minute uber or lyft ride. Hope this helps!

That's right. You can get by with around $150+ (there is a monthly all-you-can-ride pass for the GTA). I live about 45 min away from Toronto downtown, and so far it's been easy for me to get around, even in the winter. I take the TTC, and in rare cases when it's very late or I have a lot of groceries with me, I take the occassional Uber. It's still cheaper than owning a car!

For short distances, between around 5-10 minutes, I would say that taking an uber is worth it. Longer trips could be pricey and for those, taking public transportation could save you a lot of money. E.g, a 15-20 minute ride can cost you anywhere from $25-40 depending on time, tip, etc., whereas using public transport itu would cost you $3+ per person for 2 hours. A 5-minute uber trip could cost between $10-20.
It depends on how many trips you take. If you take 2 or more separate trips (not within the 2-hour timeframe for free transfers), I would recommend the monthly pass. You could pay for single rides for 1-2 months and track your spending. If you find that you spend more than a monthly pass, then switch to that.
I am a senior and already have a Presto card. Is it best to buy a seniors ticket for the UP Express, or should I use my card for the same discount. Thank you

For full restaurant eating: On a generous budget (but not luxurious because there's no limit to that!): $60 (CAD) per day per person. $10 for breakfast, $20 for a light lunch, $30 for a nice dinner. On a medium budget you can get by with $40-45/day, but it would include more fast food meals + foodcourts. If there's 2 of you and you're sharing some meals, you could do with 10-20% less. If you're on a budget, what I like to do is combine breakfast and lunch, so I only have 2 meals per day, a light brunch and a big dinner. Hope that helps!
I've personally never bought the 12-month pass, but what I understand from the official site, it seems that billing is monthly, but you are bound to a 12-month commitment, and if you cancel before, they will charge you the difference (of the discount and normal monthly pass price. Thank you! The PRESTO day pass ticket costs $13.5 at the moment, for all ages. Comparatively, one-ride tickets cost $3.25. So if each day you were to make at least 4 trips that are 2 hours apart (because there is a 2-hour free transfer window), then it would be more worth it to get the Presto day pass. I think this is especially suitable for people who really go to a ton of places from morning til evening. That gives you the flexibility to hop on and off transport as needed without worrying about the fare. But if you're going to mix your transport with some uber/lyft as well, then perhaps get the day one-ride ticket instead.

@@sandipsharma4810 There is a PRESTO vending machine and also counter at Pearsons, so yes you can buy tickets there. The Presto day pass is only for the TTC in Toronto. For Mississauga you need to pay an additional fare. The Presto Card however (the card that you can load with money), can be used on the Mississauga transit. So if you want the highest convenience possible and not worry about price too much, you could just get the Presto card. Note however that there's a $6 non-refundable charge for the card. And you can also get that from the machine. For anyone familiar with Mississauga transit - Feel free to add, thanks!

Just to clarify, I mean it’s a good deal to use for a child. As an adult, of course get the corresponding presto card and pay the correct fee. It’s not that expensive. Also it might not be necessary to get the monthly pass, depending on your usage pattern it can make sense to pay per ride.

Are you kidding me. In Ottawa its $3.60 a ride and it gets more expensive in other places in Canada. The TTC was 50 cents back in the 1980s.
