    Now, I'm convinced there's a curse on Kyle Shanahan, where the teams he's on constantly choke in the Super Bowl. I know it may not seem like a true curse, but it's happened three times now. Once, I could write it off as bad luck or losing to a better team. Twice, I could still write it off, but with some difficulty. But three times? That goes beyond mere coincidence.

    I’ve had my own goofy thoughts on a curse for years, never seen it talked about: the superbowl host curse. Up until Brady in Tampa, the host city never had a Super Bowl team in the same year. Big examples include Miami and the tank for Tua year, New Orleans and bountygate, Peyton mannings neck injury, etc. Theres more examples of weirdly timed injuries and rogue playoff losses for teams that seemed destined to make it.

  • @Kylora2112

    There was no NFL Championship Game in 1925 (there was a playoff game to decide a tiebreaker in 1932 that led to the NFLCG starting in 1933). The Cardinals were suspended for playing an exhibition game in Philadelphia, infringing on the territorial rights of the Frankford Yellow Jackets, so the Cardinals scrounged up two games against VERY weak teams in the Hammond Pros and Milwaukee Badgers to overtake the Maroons (from 1920-1932, the NFL Championship was awarded to the team with the best win/loss%, with tied not counting).
    The Cardinals won the 1947 NFL Championship.

    • @nasis18
      @nasis18 3 месяца назад +1

      It was the American Professional Football Association (APFA) championship for the 1920 and 1921 seasons. It wasn't the NFL Championship until the 1922 season when the league was renamed to the NFL.

    • @Kylora2112
      @Kylora2112 3 месяца назад

      @@nasis18 Not much difference between the APFA and NFL Championship moniker since it was the same format (loose scheduling, determined solely by win-loss%, ties were treated as non-games in the standings). Just the name of the league itself, as opposed to the wholesale changes in 1933, 1967, 1970, 1978, 1990, and 2020.

    • @nasis18
      @nasis18 3 месяца назад

      @Kylora2112 But there is a difference. The name of the league was the APFA in 1920 and 1921 seasons. It wasn't officially named the NFL until the 1922 season. Just pointing out an incorrect part of your original statement. I'm not disputing anything else you stated.

    1. If you defeat the 49ers by EXACTLY 17 points, your starting quarterback will go down with a season ending injury. This happened to Deshaun Watson, Kirk Cousins, and Joe Burrow last year, all of whom beat the Niners by exactly 17.

    my team, São Paulo FC, broke from a 11 year curse last year
    in 2012 São Paulo won the Copa Sudamericana against Tigre, but at half time a generalize fight broke out and Tigre's players decided to not come back for the second half, crowning São Paulo champions
    but after that São Paulo went till 2023 without a single relevant title ( in that period we won only friendlies and state Championship during the pandemic, that is the lowest ranking title a Brazilian team can win), and last year São Paulo got drawned against Tigre in Copa Sudamericana again, and São Paulo won both games with goals in the second half (that for sure sure broke the curse), and after that went to win the Brazilian Cup eliminating its two bittest rivals on the way to the final

    Another curse that wasn't just NFL specific but applied to a whole city. The curse of Billy Penn. The statue of William Penn on top of City Hall used to be the highest point in the city. At that time, the Flyers had won two championships, the Eagles had won 3, the Phillies won in 1980, and the Sixers had won 3. In 1987, One Liberty Place was built higher than the statue and no Philadelphia team won a championship in a major sport for 11 years. In 2007, a small statue of Penn was placed on a beam of the Comcast Center, again making Penn the highest point. In 2008 the Phillies won the World Series. Coincidence?

    I think the bigger reason why the Heismann winner is usually cursed is because the first draft selections always go to the worst teams, and with those first selections they always select who they think are the best players. And with football being the ultimate team sport, you can't exactly expect one player to turn a franchise around like you can with, say, basketball.

    How dare you bring up the 1925 NFL Championship. Too soon, Points. Too soon.
    Alex Smith was not injured in the same stadium as Joe Theismann. That was FedEx Field. Theismann's injury happened in RFK Stadium

    Jack Huarte wasn't even the best player on his own offense. Split End Jack Snow was. (JT Snow's dad)
    The Heisman Trophy is given the the "Most Outstanding" college football player. Rarely is it given to the best.

    Theismann and Smith didn't get hurt in the same field. Theismann broke his leg in RFK, which was left for FedEx Field in 1997, where Smith broke his. Also, the Cardinals won a championship in 1947. C'mon Five. You can do better

    Umm... Theismann was injured at RFK Stadium. Alex Smith was hurt at FedEx Field.
    Both were the home stadiums of the Redskins, but not the same place.

    I do believe Namath cursed the Jets. I think Payton Manning also made a deal with the devil for the Broncos Super Bowl. No good quarterbacking since.

    I once heard there was the curse of Bo Jackson on the Bengals. The team didn't win a playoff game for 31 years after the freak injury on Bo's hip...
    No curse here, Mike Brown was just a shitty owner.

    I'm wondering if the Dolphins are suffering from the WFL Curse. After their last SB win, they lost a handful of their best players to the World Football League and haven't won dick since.

    I don't know why that Cardinals thing keeps getting spread around when it is so obviously untrue. The Cardinals won the 1947 NFL Championship, why does no one realize this when their season history is so easily googleable?

    Heisman Trophy winners also tend to be unsuccessful because they get drafted VERY high, which means they get drafted by shit teams.

    I feel like the Madden curse was the least of Buffalo's problems last year. The defensive injuries were just unreal, and nobody on that side of the ball even cameoed on the cover. The Bills wouldn't have gotten as far as they did without the sheer force of will of Josh Allen, regardless of how sloppy he was.

    The Cardinals won it in 1947. That's still a long time but at least people are alive today that heard them win it on the radio (because TV wasn't accessible for another 5-7 years).

    Another factor into the Madden curse is that They don't always pick the best player from the previous season to be on the cover. When they picked Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady had won his third Super bowl and Peyton Manning had set a then record of 49 touchdowns. No disrespect that Donovan McNabb but there were better choices.
    Vince Young is easily the worst choice by far. He won rookie of the Year and was somehow voted into the pro bowl despite throwing more interceptions than touchdowns. He did lead some 4th quarter comebacks and helped the Titans improve from absolutely awful to 8-8 on his rookie year and he did help them to the playoffs the following year sure, but I mean you can't just put somebody who's notoriety in the NFL thus far was just being rookie of the Year on the cover. Some say they put them on the Madden NFL 08 cover to make up for him not being on the previous years NCAA cover when his Texas longhorns beat the USC Trojans.
