Ironically, the thing most people fail to mention about the Herschel Walker trade is that not only did Minnesota not ever win a playoff game with him, but he resigned with the Cowboys in 1996 winning a playoff game with the team, something he didn't ever manage in Minnesota. The team they beat that year in the playoffs? The Minnesota Vikings.
The only Colts trade I can think of that rivals the Elway debacle was when Ryan Grigson sent Cleveland a first round pick for Trent Goddamn Richardson - only reason this doesn't get brought up more as a bad trade is because the Browns ended up using that pick on Johnny Football
I have also read that on the Herschel Walker trade, Jimmy Johnson was originally going to trade Michael Irvin, but Al Davis in a weird moment of lucidity told him not to because Troy Aikman wouldn't have a receiver.
My favorite bad trade of all time is the infamous 1982 bucs draft day trade. Where they accidentally selected offensive lineman Sean Farrell in the 1st rd instead of edge rusher booker reese. They then got desperate and traded away a 1st rd pick in the legendary 1983 draft to get Reese in the 2nd rd of the 1982 draft. After botching doug Williams and losing him to free agency they needed a qb in 1983 where they could’ve selected Dan Marino (or any other hof in 83 draft) at the 18th spot instead of where he actually went 27th overall to the dolphins but because of their blunder the year before they lost their pick to the bears who selected Willie gault.
I'd like to throw "Deion Branch for a First Round Pick" into the conversation. Became very good Safety Brandon Meriweather...4 Mediocre years in Seattle for Big Money, then traded BACK to New England for a 4th rounder where he promptly gives New England two years of a bit better production before falling off a cliff and retiring.
18:38 In 1982 Trading the #1 pick in the 1983 draft to Chicago to draft Booker Reese who had a cocaine habit, the pick they traded turned in to Willie Gault.
Funny thing about the Detroit Lions, the QB they replaced Layne with was none other than Tobin Rote, who just came from THE GREEN BAY PACKERS! He would win them their last NFL title to date in 1957 (the year my parents were born, and the year Lambeau Field opened), and on the 50th anniversary of Bobby Layne's trade in 2008, the Lions went 0-16. You also really understated how BAD the John Hadl trade was, because it literally led to the 70's and 80's Packers, it got Dan Devine to force himself to resign from coaching and GM, and put the Packers into the Shadow of Lombardi which they didn't get rid of until 1992. Bart Starr and Forest Gregg would coach the Packers for a combined 13 seasons from starting in 1975 through 1987 never getting over 8 wins. Worse the trade was made because Devine thought he could do better at QB than Scott Hunter who was the last QB to win a division for the Packers as well as win 10 games, he was also one of just 5 QB's to start a full season for the Packers between Bart Starr and Favre. To me, this offseason move was FAR worse than drafting Tony Mandarich because of its effects, Mandarich was a silver lining where he was so bad it finally forced the Packers to get with the times and CHANGE! Speaking of Favre, according to Favre himself when talking to the GM (iirc) after he got drafted, the GM asked which Mississippi school did he go to? Favre answered Southern Miss, and the GM realized he fucked up by saying they drafted the wrong MS QB cuz they wanted the QB from Miss St.. Favre realized they didn't want him to begin with and partied his way out of Atlanta to GB, and the rest is history.

So yeah we could've had Sanders, but it was for the best for us to get Mandorich and finally learn our lesson to be a better organization so we could get Favre and Reggie.
Seahawks worst trade is Adams hands down. Followed by a forced and huge payday which was the salt. 1b and 1c could be Harvin and Graham interchangeably depending on how one might feel.
The worst Jets trade(s) came in the 1997 draft when they traded down from #1 to #6 and then from #6 to #8 to eventually get James Farrior. Orlando Pace went #1 and Walter Jones went #6 while Farrior's best years were in Pittsburgh
I still will never understand how like every major national sports talk show predicted that the bears would pick Trubisky...and yet...nobody cared until AFTER he was drafted???
Within 4 years the Panthers trade for young will be in the top 5 worst of all time. Tepper making the call on Young and his insistence to prove he was “right” will set the franchise back 5 years.
I don't see the Panthers being relevant for a long time. I've pretty much given up on them. That, plus the fact that the population of the city they play in are such discourteous assholes make me hate the Carolina Panthers as well as the Charlotte Hornets and make me hope that neither team ever wins a single game.
As a Cards fan of many decades, I didn't like the Kolb trade when it happened, but over time I ended up more neutral on it. Kolb looked shaky out of the gate, and ultimately injuries ended his career before it really started, but in the middle he actually did look like a pretty solid QB, certainly good enough to justify what we gave up. There was also talks at the time that Larry Fitzgerald had requested Kolb, and that if we hadn't gotten him, or some one better (which there really wasn't anyone better available at the time) Larry Legend wouldn't re-sign with us. If true, and that trade is the reason Fitz retired a life long Cardinal, the trade wasn't just not bad, but a huge win for the Cardinals. That said, as historically bad as the Cardinals have been, they really haven't been involved in many bad trades. Some one noted the trade up to get Rosen, which I didn't hate at the time but does look bad in hindsight, but if I had to pick one, it'd be trading Boldin to the ravens for a 3rd round pick. It's hard to call it a bad trade because it accomplished what it was meant to, it was a salary dump as ownership didn't want to pay Boldin what he was worth and he had publically refused to take the pay cut they were requesting of him. Also, while a 3rd rounder felt a little light given his resume, anyone who wanted Boldin was also going to have to pay him top dollar which was always going to drag down his value. Still, after Boldin left, teams were constantly doubling Fitz, and we were helpless to do anything about it because we had no reliable second option. As bad as the QB situation was in the post Warner, pre Palmer, era, I can't help but wonder if the Cardinals wouldn't have put a much more watchable brand of football on display if they still had two WR1s that our carousel of practice squad QBs could jump dump the ball off to and let them make magic happen, instead of just 1 who always had the opposing teams two best corners in his area at all times.
Not only did Herschel Walker not play much for the Viks but the Cowboys eventually got him back and he got a 22 yard run on the Vikings in a playoff game that helped shut the door on the Viks from winning that game. Worst trade in NFL history
Even worse Chiefs trade: Curley Culp and a first-round draft pick for John Matuszak. Culp and the Tooz both signed with World Football League teams leading to their being traded. Culp went to the Houston Oilers where he would become one of the game's first great nose tackles in the Oilers' 3-4 defense while Matuszak lasted 20 games before being traded to the Washington Reeskins before being cut and later signing with the Oakland Raiders. Culp would go on to the Pro Football Hall of Fame while Tooz helped the Chiefs' arch enemy win two Super Bowls in Oakland. The first-round pick the Oilers received from the Chiefs was used to pick Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Robert Brazile.
Funny how two Texas grand juries couldn't even indict Deshaun much less convict huh ? Funny how most of the women went back multiple times and sent friends when they couldn't make it isnt it ? They must have just assumed Deshaun was paying 500$ for a massage out of extreme generosity huh ?
The Bills' worst trade was clearly trading down in the 2017 draft. Not because of anyone the Bills picked. But rather because it let Kansas City pick Patrick Mahomes, who's now ripped the hearts out of Bills fans in the playoffs three separate years.
Th worst part of the Blaine Gabbert trade was that JJ Watt went to the Texans with the next pick. Started what I consider to this day to be the worst season in Jaguars history.
Gotta disagree on the Giants trade, you can’t tell me a trade that nets you a draft pick you use on a future all-pro is the all time worst trade unless there’s literally no other trades to choose from. I think the Jeremy Shockey trade was definitely worse in that we traded an all-pro tight end and did nothing with the picks
As a Seahawks fan, I have to say our worst trade in my opinion was the Jimmy Graham trade. A team with consistent offensive line issues trades their first round pick and an all pro and 2 time pro bowl center in Max Unger who was still young for a tight end who doesnt block and turned out to be a shell of himself, or at least didnt work in our system. They had just been to back to back super bowls and havent been close to going back since this trade
The Colts trade with Elway wasn't the worst trade. Their worst trade was with the browns where they wanted a RB so bad they gave up a first round for a guy that couldn't run at all. The Elway trade wasn't really the Colts as we know them now. Either way the Elway trade was dumb but it sucked when a player just doesn't want to play for your team. Even if they want to build around the player. It would've been easier to send him to a team that had a QB where he would've just become nothing but a backup. Yet the Colts never had a smart GM.
I would argue that SF’s trade is less about Lance and more about how they thought he would fit in their system. Lance could have been drafted elsewhere and probably had a good start to his career.
10:40 - I'm sorry but the 49ers trade for OJ Simpson in 1978 for 2 1st round picks, 2 2nd round picks, and a 3rd round pick is still the worst trade in Niners team history. Could you imagine what Bill Walsh could have done with those picks? The Niners could have started their dynasty a year or two earlier than 1981. I bet when Bill Walsh was hired in 1979 and looked at busted up OJ during his last season, he saw wasted draft capital.
Amazingly the Panthers on the receiving end of some of these trades. I’ll never speak ill of Marty Hurney again. I would argue the Bills’ worst trade was allowing the Chiefs to trade up to draft Patrick Mahomes.
As a Rams fan, as of this point, the Goff-Stafford train is a win-win. Even if Goff doesn't win this SuperBowl, he kept the Lions stable after Stafford left. And we got our coveted ring for AD and McVay
The Bears once traded a 2nd-round pick for DE Gaines Adams, who lasted one undistinguished season and then tragically died. The draft pick changed hands again, winding up with the Pats- who picked Rob Gronkowski.
Oh yeah, Green Bay's worst was the "Lawrence Welk" trade (a 1, and a 2, and a 1 and a 2 and a 3). Haven't had many really bad trades here the last three decades though a few highly questionable free agent pickups....
15:30 Too be fair, the 49ers did NOT have Jimmy G during the draft and the QB competiton was between Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, so the possibility of San Fran drafting a QB was highly possible.
Given recent playoff history I think the Bills worst trade was swapping 1st round picks with the Chiefs in the 2017 draft given the Chiefs used Buffalo's pick to draft Patrick Mahomes.

Seahawks worst trade is definitely trading Max Unger for Jimmy Graham.
Jamal Adams
I'd like to throw "Deion Branch for a First Round Pick" into the conversation. Became very good Safety Brandon Meriweather...4 Mediocre years in Seattle for Big Money, then traded BACK to New England for a 4th rounder where he promptly gives New England two years of a bit better production before falling off a cliff and retiring.
"Groper Cleveland" is the nickname 🐐🐐🐐🐐
Nah, "Desharvey Watstein" is better
The Haydl trade was a con job by the Rams.
Starr was never head coach material. Gregg was an embarassing experience.
@@mpetersen6 I do feel bad though badmouthing John Hadl cuz he passed away very recently, November of 2022
@@frenchfrey65 Don't. We all accomplish dying. Some of us are too good at it (Jimi Hendrix,) and some of us are so remarkably incompetent that we can't even properly accomplish dying (William Clay Ford.)
Green Bay could have had Barry Sanders, instead of the Incredible Bulk.
Favre and Sanders.
Ohh, what might have been.
@@kellykloss4653 see that's the problem, what if Sanders was a bust? or what if he was so great like he was that we wouldn't have needed to trade for Favre? Packers fortunes could've gone anywhere but how it did between 1989 and 92. So yeah we could've had Sanders, but it was for the best for us to get Mandorich and finally learn our lesson to be a better organization so we could get Favre and Reggie.
Steve Young is still getting paid from his USFL contract. He gets $2mil a year until 2030.
"Wilfork up your franchise"😂 nice.
Seahawks worst trade is Adams hands down. Followed by a forced and huge payday which was the salt.
1b and 1c could be Harvin and Graham interchangeably depending on how one might feel.
That Goff/Stafford trade is looking like the best trade in NFL history.
Just here to laugh at the Saints one more time for that fleece of a trade lol
If we can come together on anything, it’s that the Saints deserve perpetual ridicule and mockery.
“Defensive tackle Darnel Wright” lmao
The worst Jets trade(s) came in the 1997 draft when they traded down from #1 to #6 and then from #6 to #8 to eventually get James Farrior. Orlando Pace went #1 and Walter Jones went #6 while Farrior's best years were in Pittsburgh
"The Jets continued being the jets" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn five points you’ve been churning out bangers lately
I still will never understand how like every major national sports talk show predicted that the bears would pick Trubisky...and yet...nobody cared until AFTER he was drafted???
Also, why is it ranked as worse than the Trey Lance trade? Mitch had a few decent years. Trey never played.
Dhop. I already know. 🤣
"A ferocious well incentivezed defense" I'm a Saints fan and this had me rolling 😂😂
The John Hadl trade is the best example of why first time NFL head coaches from the college level shouldn’t also be given GM duties.
5:26 The Mia Khalifa reference had me rolling. haha
Without Boldin, the Ravens don't win that SB.
Always click when Fivepoints uploads
Not only did Herschel Walker not play much for the Viks but the Cowboys eventually got him back and he got a 22 yard run on the Vikings in a playoff game that helped shut the door on the Viks from winning that game. Worst trade in NFL history
all these years and just now noticing the typo at 15:30 "OVERALLL"
"Broncos country. Let's ride!"
The Vikings trade will always be the worst because there is Literally Nothing worse than helping another team of fund a dynasty
Yet the Colts never had a smart GM.
are we gonna talk about how john elway looked like justin bieber?
“The Jets, would continue being the Jets” 😂😂
I would argue that SF’s trade is less about Lance and more about how they thought he would fit in their system. Lance could have been drafted elsewhere and probably had a good start to his career.
The Jets trading Revis to TB for Dee Milliner is the worst in franchise history
at least Kelvin Benjamin has his own skin in Smite!
the vilma ‘well incentivized defense ‘ joke was so good
Good lord I saw this video at 2 in the morning and thumbnail genuinely scared the shit out of me
Some of these trades you just got to wonder what the hell these GMs were thinking.
Honestly surprised it wasn't the Jamal Adams trade. We gave up too much for really not much production. Such a disappointment
'DeShawn Cosby' LOL. Love it!! That' might be the best one yet, although DeShawny Watstein is great too
Your comments always make me laugh! I love your videos! Keep it up!
"Traiding with the Pats WIL-FORK up your franchise" 😂😂😂
As a Steeler fan, trading up for Devin Bush has to be up there
Amazingly the Panthers on the receiving end of some of these trades.
You pronounce Spanish last names hilariously. As a Latino, I enjoy it
Well incentivize Defense is Hilarious Man 😂😂😂😂
The Bears once traded a 2nd-round pick for DE Gaines Adams, who lasted one undistinguished season and then tragically died. The draft pick changed hands again, winding up with the Pats- who picked Rob Gronkowski.
Witherspoon and Mafe looked awesome for the Hawks, they got some quality players for sure.
As a texans fan this hurts still
Oh yeah, Green Bay's worst was the "Lawrence Welk" trade (a 1, and a 2, and a 1 and a 2 and a 3). Haven't had many really bad trades here the last three decades though a few highly questionable free agent pickups....
Those Vikings and Saints trades were horrible, lmao.
The Saints trading a cornucopia of draft picks for Run Rickey Run just to trade him in 3 years made me get on Prozac.
15:30
Too be fair, the 49ers did NOT have Jimmy G during the draft and the QB competiton was between Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, so the possibility of San Fran drafting a QB was highly possible.
The contract Desharvey Watstein got is way worse than even the trade
8:23 “Robert Griffin 3” lmao
11:12 Hey! At least our incest doesn't end up turning our families blue!
Crazy to think that in '95, it only took 2.36 to move up from 1.5 to 1.1.
Given recent playoff history I think the Bills worst trade was swapping 1st round picks with the Chiefs in the 2017 draft given the Chiefs used Buffalo's pick to draft Patrick Mahomes.
5:42 I dunno, man. The Bills trading away the pick that became Patrick Mahomes is some Twilight Zone monkey's paw shit.
Some of these trades deserve to have a hall of shame
Mia Kalifa..? Lol that was so unexpected and outrageously funny. \m/
Rick mirer was worse than Trubisky and was already a bust when they gave Seattle a first for him. Mitch had a td pass at least.
@@NotMeNaNaNa look what those 6tds did. He also had a knack for running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd down self sacking himself. I like Mitch he just isn't good. Benched for Rudolph. K? You're making my point though, Mitch wasn't a bust when they traded for him ok. Why didn't they win in 84 when McMahon was out? I thought the defense could carry any qb to a super bowl. Jim is more underrated than any qb not named plunkett.
I'm a Bears fan ok? I lost the rose colored glasses for them when I learned how every championship they won Halas a hand in.yes he died in 83 but the 85 core was already there. I hope they have success every time I watch em, I just don't expect it. Oh, the headband? Rozelle didn't hate headband, he hated the adidas sponsor on it.
@@leethecomedian I say this as a Chicago/Jim McMahon hater: Jim McMahon is underrated.
As a Raider fan, the trade for Carson Palmer was much more costly.
As a cowboys fan I still call Vikings fans dumb knowing full well we haven’t been anywhere close to a Super Bowl in 28 years
As a Texans fan I can say that the Deandre Hopkins trade was the worst trade in NFL history not only because that exchange was awful but the moves that were set in motion as a result of that trade… JJ watt demanded out , Deshaun Watson demanded out. We went from title contenders to rebuild overnight… Thank god for CJ stroud 🙏
Patrick Chung was a safety (not a cornerback) who played 11 seasons with the Pats and won 3 Super Bowls. He was never All-Pro, but he was WAY more than "serviceable". That trade was in no way a "lose-lose"
My night has been corrected thanks to this video. Positive trajectory now.
I wonder what every team’s most even trade is…
Steelers trading up for Devin Bush was worse than for the punter. Much worse.
