I feel like two other interesting cases would have been Matt Williams and Albert Belle. Both very hot and fairly young around that time and just sort of fizzled out. Awesome video! An 1895 version would also be great!
A nice exercise to show how prospecting - even halfway through a career - is futile. 6 or 7 solid, even great, early seasons doesn't mean a player won't decline dramatically - while other players show virtually no early indicators of greatness, yet become the model of consistency and longevity.
Another great video. Love the dive into 80's-90's so much to digest. Are positions weighted differently? I looked up Mark Grace (just to check) said he just didn't hit enough HR's fir a 1B to be considered. So many name you could play this game with. Roberto Alomar, Fred McGriff, John Olerud, Joe Carter, Curt Schilling, Greg Maddux, Cecil Fielder, Eric Davis, Barry Larkin, John Smoltz, Ramon Martinez, David Wells, Paul O'neill, Dwight Gooden, to name a few.
Awesome video, and I would love to see this become a series. It was nice to reminisce over two of my all-time favorites in Will the Thrill and Sabes. I think I still have 30+ Clark rookies from when I thought he was a lock to make it.
Fun video, Chris! This shows how many of the yound studs today can easily taper off or how some start slow but finish very strong (Randy Johnson). Thanks as always
This was a great video, especially growing up in that era. What about a video showing players from the 80's-90's that were getting major consideration/no consideration but their stats while playing showed otherwise...i.e. Harold Baines, Dave Parker, Fred Lynn, Darrell Evans, Dale Murphy, etc.
Maybe my favorite video idea you’ve done. Would love to have seen Juan Gonzalez breakdown while in the middle of his prime. Will submit a “favorite” item in my collection for next video - have a funny one
Here's yet another similar video idea, sparked by your commentary. Pitchers who should be in. There's quite a few of them. David Cone could be one, Kevin Brown another. Plenty more examples.
Not featured in the video. But imagine, if someone had said in 1995. One day, Orioles legend Harold Baines, will be in the baseball hall of fame, and I'll bet 1 million dollars on it. I hope they got it in writing. 🤔
There were three players in 1985 that folks thought would've been future Hall of Famers, but never made it: Don Mattingly, Dwight Gooden, and Dale Murphy.
Fun video. Now I'm off to spend 5 grand on a 15 year old Cuban kid's Bowman 1st. lol It was still early for him in 1995, but Chuck Knoblauch was a guy who I would have put in the "Likely" category if I was prospecting then. Seemed like he could get 3000 hits and be a perennial All Star.
1995 comment: I think you should look into these “Charlotte O’s Police” cards my LCS owner was talking about the other day. I’ve never seen them but they might be valuable some day.
I never got to ask, but recently I saw someone bought your boys cal ripken minor league card in Orange, I hope it was you that finally got the holy grail
Saberhagen was the one that really got my attention while multi-tasking work here... I seem to have forgotten that he had really impressive numbers through the middle of his career. less than 5 WAR post 1995? that is the definition, I think, of falling off a cliff. I bought a very small collection recently that included his Topps rookie card. I put it in my $1 box for a future show.
Still waiting for the revisit of the Demetri Young collection! What they sold for then, and what they'd go for now. That time machine was there for the taking.
Good vid. How about players with tremendous hype coming into the mlb? Guys like Ron Kittle, Gregg Jefferies, Brien Taylor to name a few off the top of my head.
Since we are in the StatCast era where boomer stats like wins and batting average don’t matter, you should do a future StatCast HoFs- DeGrom, Cruz Oneal etc.
God, I really hope we don't see people get into the hall of fame just because they hit the ball hard or had great spin rates. Need to have the results to go with it.
This is a fun look at how quickly careers and perceptions can change. I'm sure there are a lot of guys you could cover (time limitations, notwithstanding, of course!). 1995 also aligns with the end of the careers of both Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker, neither of whom got much of a look from HoF voters their first go through. Trammell eventually made it in, but Lou Whitaker has very comparable stats (he actually has a higher career WAR and higher counting stats in several categories). I'm not saying Whitaker is better than Trammell, just that their careers are so similar that they should both be in. I think if you're looking at this in 1995, it would be easy to say "Probable" for both. I hope Whitaker eventually gets into the Hall. He deserves it.
And they were both members of that great ‘84 WS Tigers team. I think WS titles should factor in a lot more. Would help Keith Hernandez, Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams’ cases considerably.
Brett Saberhagen is actually statistically better than Sandy Koufax (more IP, higher career WAR) but will likely never make the HOF and will probably be forgotten.
I think Saberhagen also has a shot. 2 Cy Youngs has to count for something. He just started too young. He was out there at 18 pitching in the WS. This was before anyone gave a crap about pitch counts.
WAR trivia: Highest war among the following: Sammy sosa Whitey ford Ichiro Vladimir guerrero David ortiz Willie stargell Keith hernandez Yogi berra Cole hamels
Please do a football one! ALSO, I have been begging my friend to send you photos of his Quinton Byfield Cheese collection and Allen and Ginter Spinach collection. PLEASE PICK HIM!
Yes. I don't know about 1st ballot. He was one of the best positions of the 2010's. A respectable career. Good batting average. Solid on base percentage. This is probably the biggest thing he has going for his HOF chances imo.
Great vid. 1995 was Lou Whitaker’s final season. 75 WAR. No HOF. Crazy.
Is he the highest war non ped guy to not be in the hall of fame?
Robbed. He should be in.
It is absolutely criminal Whitaker didn't get voted in the same year as Trammell. Would have been perfect.
For whatever reason Baines made it and not Lou 😢
Yeah. Whitaker and also Bill Dahlen, has a 75 WAR, too.
I personally would love to see a video like this for every five or 10 years throughout baseball history, very enjoyable thank you for the content.
Hi Chris, this was a fun video to watch. I enjoyed watching Will Clark when he came up to hit.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this video, Chris! You keep making me happier and happier with the content you put out! Keep up the good work!
cool video, I knew Randy Johnson was a 'late bloomer', I didnt realize just how much he bloomed. .75 win % from 1999-2002 O_O
Chris about Randy Johnson in 1995 : ‘he needs to pick up the pace in his 30s to be a potential HOFer’
Randy : Guess I’ll play until I’m 46 then. 🤷♂️
I feel like two other interesting cases would have been Matt Williams and Albert Belle. Both very hot and fairly young around that time and just sort of fizzled out. Awesome video! An 1895 version would also be great!
I'm all for Albert belle in th hof, but ppl will cry because he corked his bat and used PEDs
Would have liked to seen Greg Maddux in this one but still awsome video. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your channel.
Donnie Baseball would've been fun, but you could probably do an entire video on his cards & career.
Yes, this should def be a series! Loved it!

Great video: Biggio stat accumulation after year 30 is highly suspect.
Awesome video, and I would love to see this become a series. It was nice to reminisce over two of my all-time favorites in Will the Thrill and Sabes. I think I still have 30+ Clark rookies from when I thought he was a lock to make it.
Fun video! It would be cool to look at players in five year increments: 2000, 1995, 1990, 1985, etc.
Really cool idea for a video. The Time Machine.
Will Clark and Griffey deserve extra WAR for those sweet swings
randy johnson's late career numbers are just bonkers!
Fun Chris!!!:: I'd still take saberhagen and cone today! I agree they should've had a bigger sniff. My man will Clark just couldnt stay healthy!
Thanks for the video, Chris! As always! I grew up in 80s and 90s so still waiting on some of these guys to HOF!
Mattingly was a hitting machine⚾️
This is a really great series of videos, this one was extra fun and shows that anything can happen.
Happy belated birthday to Randy Johnson.
Looks like it was Big Unit's birthday when you made this vid!
Fun video, Chris! This shows how many of the yound studs today can easily taper off or how some start slow but finish very strong (Randy Johnson). Thanks as always
Love the concept of this video, and well executed per usual. Dig these deep analysis vids.
Great video, more of these please, some vintage years if possible
What a fantastic video!! If you do another, I'd vote for early 2000's
Fun video Chris. Doing different things keep things exciting.

Super cool video idea! Great job, Chris!

Roger Clemens too!
Clemens should be in as well as Bonds....they had superior numbers before whatever happened
Great idea, fantastic video. One thing though...why no Bonds or Clemens? The best hitter & pitcher at the time? Seems odd.
I avoided PED guys (except Canseco) for this video
@@collectorinvestordealer What's a PED it's 1995 right?
Fun video. Now I'm off to spend 5 grand on a 15 year old Cuban kid's Bowman 1st. lol

Fun concept! If you do another video from 1995, please include Rickey Henderson. It would be interesting to see your thoughts.
Of probably any player active in 1995, Rickey was the most strong lock for the HOF already. Rickey was a lock by about 1992.
That was fun. Man when i was a ķid i love d the Bash Brothers. Not a Canseco fan now, but when i was a kid
Great video! Consider doing one as of 2005 or 2015? Or maybe a top 10 players that were "99.999% locks" that didn't make it aside from the PED guys
Tiant, Allen, Murphy, Evans, Whitaker, Schilling. I'll let you finish the last few.
Juan Gonzales was an absolute beast who I think most of us thought was headed to the hall.
Though I don't know if he didn't get in because of any ped suspicions.
I never got to ask, but recently I saw someone bought your boys cal ripken minor league card in Orange, I hope it was you that finally got the holy grail
I was watching it but it ended up going to high for me.
@collectorinvestordealer aw man, was so happy to think it was you, ok maybe one day soon 🤞
Excellent! I hope you make more "moment in time" videos like this.
Great video Chris, really enjoyed it!
Don Mattingly, Keith Hernandez, and Steve Garvey better than a dozen who have been put in the last 25 years. HR Derby Champ?
Canseco should be in first 40/40 club great video

Great video from our childhood!!
More of these types of vids please!
This is a good video, bring everyone back to reality!
Still waiting for the revisit of the Demetri Young collection! What they sold for then, and what they'd go for now. That time machine was there for the taking.
Great video. HOFers need a career of steady work for sure.
Biggio definitely got the PED boost.
You mean griffey jr?
@@commiehunter733 yes, him too
I feel a little bias in your Ripken assessment! Hahaha
Put JOSE in!! 💪
Fun video Chris!

@@snerdterguson But his xWOBA is nuts! He's just been really unlucky.
Doc Gooden would have been a good one to view, at least after his first 8 seasons it was looking like he'd be a lock as well.
Well done!
Surprised you missed Greg Maddux.
Lol ❤ this I had to read the title 3 times to make sure I wasn't crazy 😂
Surprised not to see Roberto Alomar in your analysis… same with Greg Maddux… probably wasn’t a “lock” back in 1995

I would clarify the statement to say counting stats. Outside of late 90s/early 00s Pedro no pitcher had a better peak. That matters
Brilliant
Fun video would be players you think should be in the Hall of Fame
This is awesome!
For Saberhagen, why bring up win /loss if the only important stat ever is war?
Frank viola .. Kent herbeck.. Willie mcgee
What about Kenny Lofton and Kevin brown?
Cool video! Thanks
I think Will Clark will eventually get in by Veterans committee. Possibly David cone too.
I think Saberhagen also has a shot. 2 Cy Youngs has to count for something. He just started too young. He was out there at 18 pitching in the WS. This was before anyone gave a crap about pitch counts.
This was along my line of thinking for a comment on the last video. Would love to see a potential vets committee inductee list video.
Loved it!

Jedi Master Sewell: what would you consider Albert Belle as following his historic 1995 season?
Albert Belle would have been a "probable" at that point.
Loveeeee iiiiit!!!
That is an odd hat on Randy Johnson. What team is that for?
??
What about Doc Gooden?
No sound?
I think a big one would have been Donny Baseball
Please do a football one! ALSO, I have been begging my friend to send you photos of his Quinton Byfield Cheese collection and Allen and Ginter Spinach collection. PLEASE PICK HIM!

I do! You can email me at sewallsportscards@gmail.com
ok now 1925. go...
("turkey stearnes just finished his age 24 season and had 5.5 war...)
Do you think Joey Votto gets in?
He is a borderline case
Yes. I don't know about 1st ballot. He was one of the best positions of the 2010's. A respectable career. Good batting average. Solid on base percentage. This is probably the biggest thing he has going for his HOF chances imo.
Don Mattingly
I wonder what a 1945 edition would look like
Ken Griffey Jr.??? No way, that guy is a scrub..... :-)
Will Clark was robbed
This one just didn’t do it for me.
Lance Johnson>Cal Ripken Jr.
Whats up fool!
