In my humble opinion, this was the national title game. Penn state or ND neither one have the offensive fire power to keep up with either one of these two teams. You had two powerhouses going at it, giving it everything they had. Much respect to your Texas Longhorns, one of the best edge of your seat games I've seen in a long time.
You're delusional, it wasn't so at all about Texas holding OSU to 21 points, it was about OSU shooting themselves in the foot. Buckeyes offense was sloppy this game.
The taunting call on Texas' tight end was NOT for the shove. The taunting call was for him pointing at Caleb Downs and he knew it and tried to change to first down.
“If college football had more schedule balancing and guard rails like the NFL, there would be less blowouts in the post season.” The NFL with much less teams, yearly scheduling balancing, strict limited rosters, pay scales, salary cap…post season games: 32-12, 28-14, 31-7,10-0…
How many penalties did OSU commit that put them behind the sticks? Kneeing Henderson in the balls to get him throwing a punch was brilliant. Offsides on third down three times.
Say what you will but I think the 12 team playoff has been a great success. I have witnessed some of the most exciting football in my lifetime as a result of the format change.
As a Buckeye fan: We lost to Xichigan because they were the best team on the field that day. As for the Cotton Bowl....OSU was the best team on the field that day. If we played Texas again, we would win again just like Georgia did. Just because Texas didn't score on the 1 yard line only means OSU would have gotten the ball back and then............??? Doesn't mean they would have won.......they lost....get over it. Texas is a good team just not the best one OSU has faced this year. I think Notre Dame is going to be the toughest game of the year. Go Bucks!!!!!
Ohio State got called for two offensive holding penalties, both putting them way behind on the chains and forcing punts. Texas, on the other hand, was not called a single time even though there were blatant holds by them. So just stop with it going both ways because it didn't.
Shotgun on the goal line and a pitch play???? Sark lost the game right there. Manning standing on the sideline when he should be under center for QB sneak
As a Ohio State fan I thought the Texas coaches did a great job of stopping Ohio States explosiveness. Yes, Texas should have put the quarterback under center and gone up the middle from the one yard line like the Philadelphia Eagles do.
Texas is a zone defense team so its very hard to take the top off of their defense. You have to attack the middle on shorter throws. Notre Dame is a man defense. There should be more opportunities for long throw completions.
texas d did play better than i thought they would; BUT, there were 3 buckeye penalties that cost them (i think) 10-14 points. i was surprised that smith had 2 catchable balls go through his hands as well.
Texas defense was only able to play a 2 high safety because of their strong defensive front with Simmons especially. Oregon would not have been able to play a 2 high safety…not sure that ND has a strong enough front 4 to pull that off.
I think if ND tries running Leonard like they do every game, he's going to end up with blown out knee caps. They better try throwing the ball and using their running backs.
@ I’d think they’d use it in some obvious passing downs, and even straight up in 2nd and medium (4-7). And probably try to disguise it as man sometimes too.
@ZacCostilla the only problem with them trying to disguise it as man is Chip is pretty good at reading those with pre snap movement which means he'll figure it outand call friendly plays for Will. They also still have the issue of Penn State got 200 rushing yards on them. This Texas game showed OSU doesn't need the deep ball to beat you and their running game is arguably better than Penn States.
@LavitosExodius I agree wholeheartedly. Notre Dame’s defense is solid, and they will also apply the bend-don’t break principle. But I think they’re as physical at the line as the Buckeyes. But, their defensive scheme is a lot like Michigan’s, so if the Buckeyes are uninspired, or if they commit penalties in key moments like we saw against Texas, then it will be closer than we think. But I think Day will get the, fired up and ready to play. I predict Buckeyes win by 10 points or more, unless OSU gets penalty happy again.
Texas could only sit back 2 high because of the talent of their front 7. Oregon didn't have that talent and NDs front 4 are all undersized I don't think ND will be able to sit back in 2 high as Penn State gashed them on the ground we already know Henderson and Junkins are bigger threats then Singleton and Allen so for ND it's more gonna be a pick your poison slow down Smith or get tore up by the OSU ground game.
Most teams normally choose to stop the run because that wears down your defense faster because it's death by 1000 cuts. The problem is OSU has a very potent passing gaming as seen by Oregon and Tennessee. Even in the Texas game Will Howard was threading some needles. Just had some bad offensive penalties killing drives.
Both Teams played great, OSU was getting in their own way on offense. Texas made some amazing plays. Both Defenses were awesome. If Texas fans haven’t watched OSU, they’ve been amazing in Goal Line situations so I understand why they tried to run outside, and Downs was ready for it and just blew it up. I also think the best play all of the night might have been that screen pass because they had seen Texas do that before, and they executed perfectly. It was a coin flip game until that 2nd and goal, and Sawyer made an amazing play. Two best teams in CFB. I don’t believe Notre Dame is as good as Texas. This was the game I was most worried about. ND can try to copy Texas’s Defense, but that’s how Texas plays, ND doesn’t and they like to play man coverage with a single high safety. They better hope they get a lot of pressure on Howard or it will be a long day.
