  • With the introduction of the Korg Pa700, the Yamaha PSR-S770 now has a new competitor at this price point within the Arranger Keyboard category. With a direct comparison of all the popular styles, take a look and see which product takes your preference...
Both products are recorded directly out of the stereo outputs and into an audio interface. Absolutely NO EQ or processing whatsoever has been added internally or in post-production. What you hear is the direct raw sound of each product. We have matched levels as closely as possible to give each keyboard a fair comparison.

I have the Yamaha psr-s775. I recently bought the Korg Pa1000. After playing around with both. Comparing styles and voices. My opinion, the Korg wins.

I own the PA700 and seriously considered the PSR-S670 and PSR-S770 before getting the Korg. The Korg has a unique style to it. It sounds very organic and with that, it sounds kind of dull and thin. What you need to do is add a bit of High EQ on the master EQ and add more reverb to the Upper voices. This makes the keyboard come to life.
I've owned the PA700 for about a month now and have done about 40 gigs with it (yes, I play it about 3-6 hours a day, in usually 1-2 hour sessions per gig). After I bumped the High EQ up a bit, and turned on the Master Limiter (the acoustic bass will distort the speakers otherwise) a bit for soft limiting, it really opened up. There is certainly a learning curve to it, but it is worth it.
The piano sounds better on the Yamaha though, and they should. I think that Yamaha will always have the edge on the solo piano voicings. The acoustic and electric guitars are great on the Korg and they really sing.
One of the keys to the Korg is being able to utilize the DNC control for the different effects to the voices (just as the Yamaha has the Mega-Voices and Articulations). Using these correctly will add an amazing level of realism to the different sounds. They are especially effective on the saxes and clarinets. If you add a bit of Chorus to the Sax sounds on the Korg, they too get more fat and sound great.
I am very happy with my purchase of the PA700 and do not feel that I settled for it at all. I feel that I would have settled if I had purchased either of the Yamaha offerings.

Interesting. I was torn between the two: "cleaner" sound on the Psr and more organic/warm/inspiring sound on the PA. With your tips about EQ and adding effects to "brighten" the PA sound , i think my decision is made to get the PA 700 !

Would you recommend it over psr s970.. because in India both cost almost same...psr 970 little bit higher in cost..but I can manage ..plz suggest

The PSR-970 is probably more like the Korg PA1000. The PA700 is more likely comparable to the PSR-670. If the prices are similar, then I would compare them in person....I personally really like the Korg though and the more I play it the more I like it. I am actually programming on it right now.
If I get another arranger this coming year (2018), it will either be the PA1000 or the PA4X-76. More likely, the PA1000 though so I have a closer replacement to the PA700, since I use them in my work every day.

I always had PSR and never went to Korg, but now with the PA700 model (although I don't own one yet lol) it surprised me - it looks very close to Korg's PA3x, 4x PRO line, with a bunch of customizations - plus the touch screen (wtf Yamaha???). Korg has passed Yamaha arrangers! I'm almost sure that the next Yamaha PSR models will come with touch screen, at least, and the 2 buttons to use the sax articulations, for example - that we find it only at Tyros and Genos line.

I've always had Yamaha keyboards and loved them. My PSR 740 has been great, but is now showing its age. However, the new Korgs sound way better than the Yamaha. I've tried playing the PSR s970 and Korg Pa1000, and the Korg sounds so much better. I'm considering actually getting a Korg this time around.

    • @fnonaka
      @fnonaka 5 лет назад

You say your Psr740 is getting old now? Lol I had it a long time ago, but I changed a lot of times after that! Psr line changed a lot after 740... Anyway, Korg looks better now since PA700 model(although I didn't test it live yet) - check how awesome is the sax articulations - that in Yamaha you find only in Tyros line... The PRO arrangers. By the way, the keys from Yamaha PSR line are so bad that I refuse to buy it again, or think twice before buying again! Lol

what really dictate which keyboard to buy is not in fact how they sound like, at least where I leave. the community support for local folklore music rhythms and accompaniment is the most important factor.

Korg sound more like a live instrument, Yamaha like a perfectly balanced studio track. Both are great in its own rights and Yamaha is in Europe considerably cheaper right now so it is way better buy in that regard. Nonetheless i still like Korg approach more for live gig. It's tone of instruments simply sound more live and engaging to me and i get more enjoyment from them as they have more energy.

Quite a lot of bios toward the Yamaha, everything demonstrated on the Korg was poor choice of voices and very short bursts of a voice, sounded amateur. The Korg is far better that what was demonstrated here, I've seen it done to a much better standard.

I don't know why some dudes talk so sure about one over the other it's not too easy at least to make a precise opinion. When it comes to rhythm I think Korg a
has more realism and balance when it comes to sound overall yamaha wins. But korg sounds to be better for live performances .

Don't forget the sound product comes from the speakers. I see you using the same speakers for both keyboards but the Yamaha speakers are 15 watt and the Korg are 25 watt. If played through their own speakers opinions and choice could be totally different. Touch screen is much better too. All this and I am a Yamaha guy.
