    Loved this video Pete, sticking brushless systems in Tamiyas is where it all started for my channel! I held the record for the fastest Sand Scorcher for quite some time! (38mph I think).... seen one 40+ now though. I've had GoolRC ESC's that have been perfect, and also some that act like yours. They are not very 'waterproof' I might add! Anyway, this video has got me wondering if I'm due another crazy brushless Tamiya build!!!!

    • @PeteWylieRC
      @PeteWylieRC  4 года назад

      Hey thanks. Yeah it's good fun to put slightly too much power in a Tamiya to see how it copes. They usually do ok. I think the most fun one to speed up is the lunchbox which becomes the most fun ever. Wow that was a quick Sand Scorcher you had. I must dig back into your vids to see what you got up to. Yes the Gool ESC does seem problematic so I'll probably avoid in future. Many thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated 😁

    15 mph to 44 mph is all about the speed gears lol. Excellent video Pete. Makes me want to put my street tyres on the Baja Champ and give it a blast around the garages. My Slash came with a ProLine 1966 Ford F100 body. I had one run in the mud with it. Then I hosed it down and 50% of the paint flaked off. I was gutted. I'm going to see what I can do with it now I have more confidence in myself regarding spray painting.

    • @PeteWylieRC

      Hi Derek. Yeah it was just the gears that did it. To be properly nerdy I should test it out with all different setups of gears and motors and do a bar chart of the results! I'm not much into road cars as you know but I did enjoy the handling of this as it had just enough grip but I could still slide it. There are a couple of car parks near here that I can try when the lockdown is over. In the paint front the only problem I've had previously was with Tamiya fluorescent orange which didn't seem to stick very well. It's difficult to redo paint if you've got clear windows to contend with. Luckily this Merc body is all just black so quite easy. Anyway thanks for your feedback mate and also the super speedy gears 😁

    Nice.!
    I'm thinking of giving the TL-01 a go.
    I have RCs from a load other manufacturers but I only recently got my first Tamiya, a TT-01 E MAN truck, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, it was an unfinished project & the bloke I bought it off included CVA shocks, a full bearing kit & even 3 tins of PS paint.!
    I'm running a 4350kv motor & a 60 amp HW ESC, it goes really well.!! 👍
    Those Gool brushless systems aren't great, I'd recommend trying the Surpass stuff, their motors are very good especially their Rocket line, I think their larger sized motors like the 4290, 1700kv are very good value for money, around £45 - £55...
    The ESCs are a bit hitty missy though.
    I pretty much only run Surpass motors with Hobbywing ESCs these days.
    Isn't the Absima system a rebranded Hobbywing.?
    It certainly looks it, if so then £60 is a bargain.!!
    Stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍

I got 54mph but some got over 100mph 😮 Not sure if the TL-01 is available new currently. Don't know if the Absima is a rebranded Hobbywing but for a similar price there are the Robitronic Razer 10 ones which are and they are good. Many thanks indeed for watching and your great feedback. Thanks for a very enjoyable video, Pete! Wow the Merc has got some pep now - it looked fantastic whizzing past the camera, I thought at least 60mph! Great advice about the motor ESC combos, my experience is exactly the same. I always go for a sensored setup if I can. As you know, I tend to run mine in much smaller spaces than you, and that control you get with a better setup is essential for accurate driving from lower speeds. It would be great to see this chassis in rally mode, with a lovely Tamiya rally body fitted. The Audi Quattro is only about £35, and I think I paid £28 for the Subaru body kit with all the accessories. Anyway, top job young man, thanks for the entertainment. Have a thumbs up on me! :)

      Hiya Mark. I think that although it's fun to see how quick you can make these go it's much more important to have the controllability for day to day runs. I'm sure Ric had a GoolRC set which was ok. Need to check what it was when we are all allowed near each other again. Yes I think this one would be great with some mild off road runs. Will have a look for a suitable body shell. Thanks for the suggestions. Hope all still well at yours. I keep getting paranoid about slightl coughs. I need to know if I have got it as Saran will be back at work on Monday. I think it will be more obvious if I did get it. Seems like you have most of what you need. It's best if you look up the brushless set so you can find the best deal. It's the Absima Thrust BL Eco 3420kv brushless combo. Not the cheapest but as shown in the video I didn't have much joy with the cheap GoolRC one. Worth checking around to see if anyone recommends one of the cheap ones. Be careful if you go for lipo batteries and always charge them in a fire proof bag away from anything flammable and don't leave unattended. Obviously you need a lipo compatible charger. Ah no I disagree. I asked the chap who built it and he said that at the time he didn't actually know that there was such a thing as lexan paint and he used ordinary spray paint for hard bodies. Tamiya lexan paint is the best that I have tried and stays on really well. Cheers for watching :-)
