This is very impressive 3wheel slip test. Calibration of the system was completed for 95% of drivers, so reaction of the awd system to kick in and get the car out of stuck is set with split of second of delays. Other manufacturer may set that delays a bit quicker, but outcome result is achieved, the awd system works.
I bought my son a new 2021 Kia Seltos when he graduated from College. Has all wheel drive. He's stationed in Colorado Springs (USSF). He loves it. Never had any problems getting around on snowy days.
The traction system on the Kia looked pretty good for an SUV. Yes its not got Toyota or Land Rover level traction aids, but it would certainly be sufficient for 95% of drivers. Considering that tests have shown the Continental TerrainContact to be towards the top of the pile for road-biased mild AT tyres, it did okay. I believe this tyre also isn't snow rated with the 3PMSF sidewall marker, so again it did quite well given the conditions.
Pretty much as up to the task of any basic AWD system out there and didn’t perform above board in the least bit🙄, Tommy sits there praising like it a special system when it’s failing! 🤦🏽♂️
It’s a way for companies to cheap out, black or grey interiors. Tan, red, beige, even a cool blue as options would be nice. At least this interior does look good.
Don’t put the rollers in the concrete. We put some in at a Landrover Experience Center. They constantly filled with mud, leaves, rain, snow etc. they would fail every few months and need the bearings replacing. Your movable set look a bit more hassle to set up, but they seem to work every time. Another great video by the way.
Another reason to not mount the rollers - TFL tests a bunch of different vehicles, each with different track width and wheelbase length. Any mounting scheme would have to accommodate different spacings to line up with where a given vehicle's wheels are.
@@ThisGuyRides I don't think it's that important for all four wheels to be on an even level... The test only requires the wheel on the ground to generate enough thrust to move the wheels that are in the rollers up and over the height of the roller. Yes, the roller places those wheels at a higher level than the wheel(s) on the ground, but I don't really think it matters since the vehicle's suspension makes it so that each wheel has a significant amount of weight. Yes, the weight is unequal, but I don't think it matters since: The wheels on the ground have enough weight for traction such that if torque is being applied thrust can be generated. And the wheels in the rollers have enough weight that they act as a significant impediment to forward motion - such that the other wheel(s) have to generate a good amount of thrust. Raising the wheels that are not in the rollers would just make the test slightly harder by putting more weight on the wheels that are in the rollers.

The 2023 Telluride has a Sportmatic shifter. This may have helped when getting out of the pit at the end. Just tip the shifter to the left and you can gain some control over the gearing. You could have stayed in a lower gear. Were you aware of this but did not use it on purpose? Am I misunderstanding the functionality or does it become unavailable in certain modes or conditions? I am a Telluride XPro owner as of 3 days ago. Great video. Cheers!
I had the Telluride and it was better in the mud terrain mode than the snow. Sold it when the dealers wanted to buy it back for $15,000-20,000 over asking and got the Maverick FX4 XLT
It's center differential lock is *NOT* equivalent to the 4H in a Full-time 4WD vehicle. (Like Ford's advance T-case in a Bronco or a Raptor. Or a Land Rover Range Rover) But the Kia Telluride has an AWD system(and never claims to be anything else) and a very good AWD system at that. It's actually impressive.
Well-done Kia. After seeing some premature reliability issues with Honda Pilot couple of my friends went to Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade route. I guess if they upgrade the tires to something like what you get on X-Pro I guess they will be perfect for CO outdoors.
Impressive AWD system. Telluride is a very appealing package overall. I think the price is unjustifiably high though considering it's priced the same as the Toyota Highlander, which will very likely prove to be more reliable long-term and have much better resale value.
This is way nicer than Toyota. Fit and finish is almost a luxury brand like Lexus and I can see it being cross shopped with the uglier Lexus options. I just sat in a MDX and the new 2023 Telluride and my tastes it’s a nicer looking than the MDX for $10k less. The MDX dash is horrible looking. Toyota and Lexus plastics look so cheap and shiny.
I think it’s got more usable room than the highlander. The issue will be the dealers, and the scheduled maintenance if it’s as expensive as other Kia’s. They continue to have best designs with weird quality issues and extra maintenance. Yes, Toyota has remarkable reliability, but most people don’t keep their cars ten years or 100k. The one or two extra repairs for an unreliable brand just don’t make that much difference. Most cars will get traded without any unscheduled maintenance if you actually do the scheduled maintenance.
It's got more usable room, and better fit and finish than the Highlander, and is up there with the RX. Their customers ( for the Telluride) aren't coming as ex toyota owners. They're coming from European brands. The Highlander attracts a different person.
Thanks Tommy!! Please do a comparison shootout video between the new 2023 Pilot Trailsport and the Telluride X-pro!! Really looking forward to TFL's verdict!
My parents had a first gen honda. The awd system was so laughably weak, I think it was marketing fraud to even call it awd. They definitely seem to improve since then, but I just can’t imagine it being anywhere close to this telluride
I’ve tested personally. 4wd works fine but the clearance is not even remotely enough for any off roading because it has such long wheel base. But if in need of a super comfortable highway driver, the All terrain is a really pleasant car. 😊
Definitely good for what it is but ultimately the haldex like Hyundai/Kia system cannot send enough torque to the rear wheels, which I believe is 50% in their system.
