Of course it's not going to want to go up an icy hill when you keep stopping and are afraid to hit the gas.
I know, tommy should’ve been driving it.
@@ertatta Yup, I've repeatedly noticed that he's the only one who has a damned clue as to how to drive off-road.
I think that’s why Tommy got the Kia, he’s able to push it to its limits without damaging it. The Audi wasn’t going to make it much further with only 7 inches of ground clearance anyway.
Right? Start stop start stop on a hill with ice and snow? Wtf was that?
True, but you have to remember that the car isnt theirs, so they dont want to risk damage it. He even said it on the video. You might have zoned out when he said it.
In snow, momentum is your friend. You guys keep stopping 1/2 way up in the deep and then throttle the vehicles. Keeping a steady pace is the way.
This is the truth. I drive a RWD car in the winter with snow tires and Momentum is certainly key.
YEP! That's my first point in the comment that I posted.
1000%
The Audi A6 allroad air Suspension goes one step higher then shown in the offroad mode in this video. The way to do it is to select offroad mode, then touch one time in the raise column(where you see the height column). Thats the way to unlock the fifth height increase. In this video the allroad is in height mode 4 of total 5(where 5 is the highest level). Winter tires, little more height and throttle would have helped alot with this quattro🙂. I have own severel, and they are truly great offroad wagons 👍 Test the Audi E-Tron S with three motors and good winter tires, truly a beast offroad and especially on dynamic winter driving (ice track with studded tires😎).. But remember the height column after you select offroad for best clearance in the wild. I personally own the E-Tron S tri motor and it is awesome in the snow and ice😎 Best regards from Norway(Hard winters)
Love the ranch but love to see you guys on the mountains again. You guys are awesome and enjoy all of your off road content... 🙂👍
Agreed 100%! Back to basics every now and then is nice too.
I miss Tombstone Hill testing! Those were always good!
Goldmine Hill as well RIP
They got to show the ranch for the tax write off. I bet the ranch is owned by TFL. Nothing wrong with that but they have to be able to prove utilization.
"the big hard boiled egg" really made me laugh. I thought it was a perfect analogy especially when you got to the defender
I like when Roman makes himself vulnerable and reveals he's a hoarder (still has all his childhood toys). This channel with short-term ownership of vehicles is great therapy. I'm with you Roman pulling for you to be able to let go of things.😁😅🤣
Would be nice if Roman could learn to genuinely poke fun at himself as much as does his son and his most valued business partners.
This was a great presentation that would appeal to all enthusiasts. Best line, "How willing are you going to be when you possibly break or damage your own vehicle...."! BINGO! That's the meat & potatoes of it.
All that was missing in this, was Nathan gleefully sending it up hill in the Defender. 😁😁
Matt's Off-road Recovery will be pulling those KIA out a lot, I predict.
Ok. Credit to the KIA for keeping all 4 wheels spinning without killing power. Would like to see Telluride vs Hylander and Ascent in this scenario.
Subaru AWD will beat the Kia and Highlander any day.
@@mnolanco5599there is no magic in Subaru AWD anymore. All manufacturers pretty much figured out how to distribute traction to all wheels. That was back in the day when Subaru was leading the pack.
@@mnolanco5599 There's multiple videos out of people comparing modern Subarus to other vehicles and they get outperformed. For example, Driving Sports TV has numerous videos comparing different Subarus to other vehicles and they routinely get beat. A specific example is the Ford Bronco Sport against the Subaru Crosstrek. In their video there was no comparison, the Bronco Sport blew that crosstrek away.
@@mnolanco5599 Sorry to burst your bubble, but Subaru is not nearly good as it used to be. I am saying this as a Subaru fan. With a manual equipped car, you will be okay but the auto (CVT) systems are trash.
@@al151 Plus, Subaru with CVT compared to the KIA 8 speed will not deliver the power. They have a video with an Outback struggling. When Subaru did their wilderness trims they should have really focused on power and traction. The 3.6 flat 6 with an 8 or 10 speed auto would have been a good start. It's a shame because I have always loved Subaru. Ordered a Kia for the wife. We should have it in April.
At least you called it that the biggest weakness for the Defender was the wimpy sidewalls. If you had wheels/tires with beefy sidewalls (I'm thinking more like going down to 16-17" wheels) you could have aired down and snoozed through all that.
Roman - then why bring the Audi if you are too worried to test it hard? I get it that you don't want to break but, but what I don't get is including it in the video.
I strongly believe the Telluride was more than capable for this test. My Sorento with all-season tires has gotten me up steeper hills that were unplowed.
In the most recent podcast Roman said he loves hearing about us watching TFL on the weekends with our morning coffee, wanted to let you know Roman this Sunday I woke up early, stuck on some eggs and a pot of coffee with this episode on the TV! Great job love your content
Roman says 👍
My Sunday morning routine. Coffee and TFl 👍
Doing that right now ☕️
Same here! Great weekend routine 😊
Funny you said that, I'm doing the exact same thing. Even if my mornings start around noon....lol
17:06 Andre looks like B.A. Baracus (Mr. T) driving the van on A-Team! lol
Great video!
The world needs more wagons!
Couldn’t agree more! Put taller more aggressive rubber and less wheel on the Allroad and it would’ve gone much further.
Really enjoying the videos lately, love the variety of content. Keep it up!
Audi has always suprised me with their AWD system, I seen them plow thru snow like nothing, but yeah off roading like that I can see why you have to be careful way to expensive & obviously you don't want parts flying all over.
What great vehicles. My price limit for an off roader is $30,000. Surely they come as used.
The ranch is cool but I love seeing you on a trail.
Showing LOVE for the channel thank you for another great video once again gentlemen. Have a blessed day everyone
Awesome testing and video!!!
I think that Audi had a lot more to offer. Wish it had gotten a fair shake.
Agreed... Giving up at that point was annoying AF
Love the show it’s the first thing I look forward to watching on Sunday mornings.💯👍
Sunday mornings with TFL. Can’t beat it
It would have been awesome to see Nathan's Santa Cruz on this one! I'm considering the Santa Cruz 2.5 NA AWD but I am curious about its performance in the snow. The Santa Cruz would have given us a good sub 40k addition to this test.
santa cruz would be terrible with its transmission
I should call my buddy in Tahoe today about his new Santa Cruz to see how its snow performance has been, but I think he is completely snowed in and unless you have a snowplow no one is going anywhere. Even the ski resorts are closed!
@@coolyjavon591 Nathan has the torque converter trans
@@coolyjavon591 Nathans has the standard 6 speed, not the DCT.
@@coolyjavon591 I could be wrong, but I think the Santa Cruz has the same trans as the KIA (8 speed auto) Not DSG or CVT. And looks like that 8 speed was doing well.
Yeah I do get on Sunday and tfl is the first thing in the morning. Thanks guys for the content.
Can't believe how they drove that Audi freaking unbelievable...
Outstanding test! Really shows the difference within the segment
Love these real word testes. Can't believe Andrey actually gave the LR the beans!!!
I really like these kind of comparistions. Great to see all the different settings each manufacturer has for this type of conditions. I wonder how the 2023 Jeep Cherokee Track Hawk would do in these conditions, vs Defender
You mean Trailhawk?
Track hawk? or did you mean Trailhawk. I agree that it would be nice to put one of the GC 4xe up against the Defender. Full comparison (cost, ride quality, interior, towing, 4x4 ability)
Good thing you abandoned the Audi test before it got scrambled. The Land Rover as expected went over easy.
I see what you did there
fair assessments of all 3 cars. this helps me with narrowing down my decision on which car i want to buy.
Great video, but it really shows the importance of wheel size and tyres. 22s on a Defender?🤯 Think I’ll stick with my current combo- Audi Q4 E-Tron on 20s for daily duties, and a Disco 2 TD5 on 18s if I need three rows (and a set of 16s for play time😜)🏴
Yeah I find it funny that he through 20s would be a massive improvement when he really needs ATs on 16s or 17s so that he can air down. That course would have been a snooze fest if they had done that.
These are good videos to watch after a day at work.
I have the 2023 x-line Telly. Lifted 2 inches with an aggressive off road tire on 18s. Hasn't failed yet
I've driven an old Mercedes 307 (not a sprinter the old square shape no turbo diesel) for miles on the A19 uk , more snow on the floor n snowing so hard I had to use my flask of coffee to thaw out the frond windscreen less bother than you're having here.
The Nathan method prevails! Good job Andre! Haha
Thank You🎉👍👏🙏👌
I want to move there! This looks amazing, to drive or hike.
Oh come on guys! 13:40 - it's all about proper tyres. AllSeasons or AllTerrains are not meant to perform in snow or ice.
The amount of people that think their crossover with "adventure" trim can handle off-roading is quite scary.
I just tested the AWD on my Escalade. Definitely surprising
Snow tests should include the vehicle's ability to make multiple stops on the uphill and downhill stages. Real-world snowy road conditions have the driver sharing the road with cars that "get stuck" and have to back down or otherwise be avoided by the test 4x4. Davison Road at Mammoth Mountain after a snow dump is a real-world challenge. Downhill traction control and Hill Descent must also pass "the test."
The more I see videos like this, the more I adore my ‘04 Sequoia Limited. It will take me as far and maybe beyond what those brand new, expensive, fancy vehicles might go.
Would of been cool to compare a more capable audi like a q7 or q8
I want one of the coats that Roman is wearing! LOL......love the color and the TFL logo.
Yeah, couldn’t tell if it’s Columbia, Mountain Hardware, or Eddie Bauer
Same here! Where can I get one?
@@markderoller7645 your nearest Polaris dealership .
Medium is the Allroad. Kia is the soft road imho.
The original A6 had locking diffs and low gear in the manual version. Proper tires and that would give the LR a run for its money.
Buhanka! Should have taken the Buhanka as well! Great video thank you!
So how capable is my bone stock 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie 22” rims, how much more capable would it be with 18” rims and Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT tires?
You made Audi look bad. Haha. But also drove it respectfully and like someone that works hard for there money might.
Thanks Guys !! I'd never think to buy one of these but it's interesting
Can you please test RAV4 hybrid AWD system on rolling racks? Thanks
Was really impressive with my old mk1 V60 cross country. With some all seasons it was pretty much all the car you'd want
I would love to buy one as a winter vehicle but worried about reliability.
I had an XC70 and it was brilliant with a set of mild AT tires - it went a lot of places you would only see Jeeps or lifted trucks, much to people's surprise. We told them we got lost on the way to yoga.... But seriously, Volvo makes a bunch of accessories for these cars (like skid plates) that make them more capable. Finally sold it to get something with better gas mileage - it got around 24mpg combined. Was replaced with diesel Jag F-Pace that gets 38mpg, but is likely not as much of a tank.
I bet tommy wishes he was driving a 4runner trd. Off road. Lol
When I had a Telluride, the mud terrain worked better in the snow than the slippery/snow mode.
I've heard similar with the Ford Maverick that snow mode was the best for sand.
Need to do the same test with a 2023 Pilot Trailsport! Honda AWD is always superior to Kia and the 2023 trail sport has underbody protection
Put a proper winter tyre and repeat the test...
Where did Tommy get that Land Rover coat?! I want one!!
It would be nice to see how a proper quattro with the torsen center diff and the rear sport diff(audi electronicaly controled mechanical lsd or tvd) would do. The current a6 allroad, doesnt have the legendary audis quattro system anymore
Yeah, throw a SQ5 with the air suspension/sport package into this.
@@trletts or an sq8 with similar packadge
You have to drive that Audi like they are meant to be driven, I.e. harder and with less trepidation and it would go right up that hill. A Q7 which is more similar to this two will keep up with the Rover.
Didn't Audi want to give their car a fighting chance and at least provide it on winter tires?
all season tires? Who would choose those on snow and ice?
This test just says get winter tires
I'm bummed that we haven't seen more done with the WL Grand Cherokee. Seems it'd be up y'all's alley.
Nobody gets a Telluride for 55. Demand is so high and the waiting list is long. The dealer markups on Tellurides are among the highest of any vehicle anywhere. 55 isn't even in the same time zone as what you'll pay.
What brand gloves is Roman wearing?
I don’t have a cabin so I guess I don’t need to worry about it
Low range is not your friend here. Wheel speed and momentum in the snow and sand.
Ya this is a real pickle!!!!❤
The Land Rover is brilliant when it works 👍
I'm curious about the Telluride with the Truxxx 2.5" lift and a little bit taller tires
Goodness 2.5” spacer lift? I bet droop travel goes to zero with that lol
I would take a mild lifted Telluride with better tires over a Land Rover any day of the week. They are super impressive for the price and likely much more reliable long term.
The money you save on the Rover you could put into lift and wheels. I love my wife’s Palisade but the large wheels and sport tyres make it awful when the roads are bad.
Now like that y’all back at the trail need use it’s more often
Love the blue coat
A fair test would have had them all on the same all terrain tires
Once again, Roman brings a vehicle to a place he knows he won't drive it.(for all the right reasons) So why bring it at all? To make the point on camera (again)that you should not? IF one has NEVER watched ANY TFL videos and this was the 1st time EVER watching and wanting to know if the Audi is worth buying for a family hauler up the ski slopes to a cabin on non plowed roads, the answer is no. Outside of that, the best advice is to buy something "affordable" with AWD or 4WD, put on snow tires with "chains" and bobs your uncle. End of debate.
the Audi is perfectly suited as family car and to get up non plowed winter roads, or to drive on dirt roads etc, it's just not a suitable car for offroad paths and trails because you don't need that over in Europe
I want to see that Telluride xpro go head to head against Bronco Sport
Like Andre said....childs play...!!
Get on it.., that Audi can drive those flat snow covered roads... !!
All season tires are not meant for any country road in winter.
Where are Nathan and the dog?
I feel you are still the overall best channel that tests off-road vehicles, but the other channels seem to push theirs a little harder during testing. While you guys quit and say, "I'm driving an $82,000 vehicle, I can't push it," they say, "I'm driving an $82,000 vehicle, so I need to be a little careful going up this hill." They get closer to the showing the full capabilities of the vehicles they are testing, whereas you stop short many times in your way of testing. Still, overall good job and good comparison.
Roman it must be a age thing because you & I are close to the same age & I still have a lot of my toys from my childhood. Still have battery operated trucks that I would take the batteries out when I got finished playing with them.
Needs at least 3 inches of airlift and 18" with taller sidewall and more aggressive peak rated all terrain .
Are we really surprised as which one would make it?
I'm on my forth Audi with quattro AWD, and one of them was an A6 allroad. I think your fear of damaging the car was hurting your effort. Totally understandable, but I could have done better having owned one for four years.
Take a look under that Kia. It’s not meant to go anywhere off-road. Compare it to a Jeep Grand Cherokee or 4 Runner on a hoist and it’s clearly visible.
That is why cars like the Kia are so popular.
Seeing all 4 wheels working was impressive.
I wish Tommy had gotten some momentum with the Kia. Putt'n up a hill in snow isn't the way you do it. The Kia awd system seems to work very well.
Not to mention relatively inexpensive. More bang for your buck.
@@wannabeangler yeah it's damn nice for the money. 😅 Which is still expensive compared to what cares used to cost.
@@tarheel4wd Not enough clearance !!
Nice video guys. I love the Audi AllRoad but let's be honest, it's way out of its element. Now replace the all-season tires with snow tires and driving snow covered tarmac should be no problem.
Okay guys. The telluride is nice, but as nice as the rover? Come on
Can you do an Acadia AT4
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
Need to do nathens Santa Cruz
You' comment that you wanted to test the vehicles with the tires they came with from the factory. So are you trying to tell me that the Defenders come with snow tires from the factory? I think not.
These are the best type of videos you guys produce. Just Nathan is missing
Audi All road, should be called Audi Mall road, the only road it can take is to the mall or supermarket
Great stuff! At $80k+ I want my SUV to not only eat the dirt but the snow as well! But then again if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't be worried about scuffing it up.
I wonder how my GX460 would do in that !
Very similar to the defender probably.
Piece of cake if you modify or get rid of that dumb front air damn
I cannot believe the Audi costs 82k or the prices of the others. The car mfgs are out of their minds. Instead of getting a new car every 3 years, I'll be getting one every 5 to 7 years.
Roman - why did you bring the Audi ?
That Audi model also comes with a dual clutch tranny, not plus for off-road use.
