Hong should never have been handed to China in 1997, but given full Independence as a British Dominion status -like Canada or Australia, then its people could have lived under a secular Westminster style constitution!
honestly real. the contract says hk is either returned to china or a colony forever but the global call for de-colonialization wouldve freed us eventually. many older hong kongers wanted closure from being stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of cultural identity (british weren't nice to them and they couldn't call themselves the same people as their mainland relatives/friends) but younger hong kongers felt the disconnect less with the reforms of mainland allowing for more contact and were more worried about the political side of things. it would've been much better if hk was a citystate like singapore. but alas.

This song is partly inspired from the National Anthem of Ukraine, now this song is forbidden to play in Hong Kong, or said it correctly China Hong Kong, the people who publish and broadcast this song would offending HK’s national security law. What do people think about even a song can threaten the security of China. But we can’t forget it and it is part of the Hong Kong people history.
