I actually know someone that lives in China. She said the purchases that are being returned, were purchased by counterfeiters so they can copy the bag then they send it back
A big problem is the quality of some brands have become so bad. Someone shared an Hermes SO bag and the quality was absolutely appalling, I was shocked.
I have friends that have bought bags, walked around town and then find out they returned them. that kind of grosses me out. I dont want to be the forever buyer of that bag. The thought of this makes me consider quality as more important than the "new" status of the bag, opening the door to vintage sales AND the new bags have horrible quality AND the price. The value of the bag can only be so much that it is actually stupid to buy them.

Worked for a luxury brand years ago, once had a Chinese customer returned 2 bags that appeared to be taken apart and sewn back together. Probably in attempt to produce counterfeits.
The problem isn’t that the shoppers are stingy and return there bags. There blaming the consumer, when they should be blaming themselves. The quality of designer handbags is so bad that fake bags have the same material as authentic bags. IM talking about saks ms Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Prada. And if you don’t believe me feel a coach bag and a Chanel bag the leathers the same so disappointing for LVMH I used to love there collections.
Some influencers show in their videos that they order luxury things leave tags on go to event & return items afterwards🙁 Seeing that i triple check when i buy something whether it’s been worn. It’s shocking that people are so brazen to show what they’re doing & their followers aren’t calling them out on this horrible behavior

This place is amazing 🤩 Yeah collecting new stuff is nice and we've got so many reviews, top 10's and fragrances now but this place has the oldest fragrances and the way they have a theme for each place and they are literally preserving the history of perfumes is awesome. People who do that are lame. Sorry, but it's true. It costs the retailer for any return. I've returned one bag I bought online to LV for construction issues. Even if you do it once in a great while because you don't like the bag when you get it as much as you thought you would - that's ok. But, when people buy only to unbox and return, that's lame.
It makes me sad people take advantage of return policies. It hurts us all. I hate being felt like I’m a criminal for returning something. So it’s nice to have lax return policies. But some people will always take advantage of the situation. As I said so sad. Thanks ❤
Yes this is a perk of a high trust society. I've lived in a low-trust place before and there's no return and very bad customer service because the assumption is people would always take advantage of the business/brand/system all the time.

I am one of those customers. I just returned a LV loop bag because it was just too small for me. I knew it may not be right but I ordered it online anyway. My bad but my local LV store is located in an unsafe area😔.
I just returned a pair of Chanel tweed slings that I loved and would’ve exchanged if there was another in my size. But these arrived with the threads unraveling and the Chanel logo interior sole lifting. Shameful for the price!

I've never understood that behavior... buying in bulk just because there is the option of returning. I used to follow someone who would order 3 possible sizes of anything and everything bc she didn't know and all the possible colors 🙄That and other things such as over consumption and the constantly saying 'you need this in your life' NO, I don't need all that, maybe I would want it, but no I don't need IT. Also, what many ppl don't realize is that in many cases returned items cannot be re-sell, though that is slowly changing but not all brands do or want to do that, plus all the packing materials, plus fuel, etc. etc. is very bad for the environment. So, being a conscious consumer is maybe the only way, from what we choose at a supermarket being vegetables, food to luxury items and anything and everything in between? For me, i may not be an ultra wealthy individual but i buy luxury because i love the pieces that are crafted by these brands. I appreciate the history, the design, the process, the leather materials etc used. If i were to buy a piece id make sure it works with my wardrobe as it will be a forever piece. I have also seen people post on reddit "should I return this" pointing to some flaw that is totally invisible to the naked eye. I mean, if you have buyer's remorse, just return or think twice before buying.
But also, to be fair, sometimes it is hard to film flaws on camera. Its not always easy to point out the details with the correct lighting and camera and not everybody is a professional cameraperson. 💖

Luxury brands, IMO, have a much different business structure than commodity products. They can afford the high returns and higher cost of customer service. Afterall, they are known to destroy product. 😮
After Brooks Brothers was saved post 2020, the vast majority of their ads switched to being majority Chinese models. An Americana brand since 1818, catering to the Asian market instead of their home market. Sad. I still buy the clothes because I love BB and the heritage of it (plus the women's wear FINALLY got way better) but it's very off putting.
I had a bag accidentally go towards my old address. I called the company and they redirected back to themselves before it was delivered and refunded me. So, it’s a possibility that it can be done. I never saw the bag. ❤

No way can they all afford to keep buying and unboxing all these things week after week if they’re not returning. Not good for the environment all this stuff being shipped back and forth. Customers are allowed to return products BUT it’s limited to a few items a year / max amt a year and if it keeps reoccurring customers gets banned ( if they don’t buy anything at all but keeps returning )

As much as some of these luxury brands charge their items with super-high profit margins - I don't think returns would hurt them too much. They are still making money.
The problem is you can't see the quality and fit of items you buy on-line. I've had to return items, for instance a Bella Freud sweater because it had scratchy wool. How could I know this? It had a recycled nylon content but there is no way I could know it was so scratchy. Also the colour was off, it was a cheap looking red it was like something I'd expect to see in a Target store, not at a high end online store. It's the same with items that are inferior in quality and you have no means of conducting what legally is termed 'intermediate examination'. You rely on the images and descriptions, order and hope for the best. The returns person was almost begging me to not return the items but I had to. Also I kept more items than I was returning. One was a duplicate order that wasn't my fault. I was told to split the order and an item got duplicated. I felt bad but not bad enough to keep items that just don't fit. Don't get me started on fit. I mean, why can't they measure the garment itself instead of trying to match sizes on an international equivalence chart, and then try to tell me all sizes are the same within that brand? Hardly. Today I tried on a Balmain fitted jacket at a store. I needed a size 44 because the sleeves were so tight. This is because the fabric is a loose tweed and it fills out the design more. I decided against it because I looked top heavy (and I'm quite slim and tall). The clothes that are in the store were few and far between. So the stores don't take advantage of their ability to get a good fit, and what happens? General decline. I don't know about customers exploiting the system to wear clothes and then return them, how can they do this? It seems offensive to me.
The truth is though, these handbags and most Prêt-à-Porter clothing is essentially "mass-lux" (luxury for the masses). There will always be rare and exclusive products for the ultra-wealthy. Haute Couture (and high-end mens bespoke tailoring) is a different world from the luxury boutique experience. Generation Zs unrealistic and entitled attitude to luxury consumption has completely changed the luxury business: previous generations never considered buying a set of Goyard travel luggage or a Birkin unless they were very wealthy - but average-income Gen Z-ers seem to think it's perfectly normal.
I think it is related to the doomsday spending habit. They cant afford house or kids, barely having time and money for friends and life, might as well try to enjoy it as climate change rave and war mongering drive people crazy with anxiety
The oldest GenZ-ers are in their mid-20s. I know most people in that age group are pretty broke - but I see a lot of people on Social Media in their 20s buying luxury products (they probably can't afford).
The carriers are desperate for work. I was returning some items and the office was closed and they opened it up to be able to take my parcel. Volumes are way down. I try to not return items but it seemed clear that the carriers want the work.
I haven’t bought a luxury bag in over a year. The quality is crap and the prices are outrageous. It’s also a bit of a slap in the face for some people in this economy and that just irks me. Lol No thank you.
I have heard that both Amazon and Sephora will block people from returning if they've exceeded a certain amount of money refunded in returns per calendar year. Should be illegal.
I'm sure it is in the US. I know in certain states in the US Attorney Generals will investigate if reported. Why advertise your return policy if there is a caveat attached and not letting customers know. Then maybe they customers can decide before ordering if they truly need or want it.

Haute Couture (and high-end mens bespoke tailoring) is a different world from the luxury boutique experience. Generation Zs unrealistic and entitled attitude to luxury consumption has completely changed the luxury business: previous generations never considered buying a set of Goyard travel luggage or a Birkin unless they were very wealthy - but average-income Gen Z-ers seem to think it's perfectly normal.
I think it is related to the doomsday spending habit. They cant afford house or kids, barely having time and money for friends and life, might as well try to enjoy it as climate change rave and war mongering drive people crazy with anxiety
The oldest GenZ-ers are in their mid-20s. I know most people in that age group are pretty broke - but I see a lot of people on Social Media in their 20s buying luxury products (they probably can't afford).

Temu items are not good. I’ve ordered several item items via a friend and did not like any item from them. All poorly made.
I would love to know the global return rates. Goodness knows I've have something that was returned shipped to me as if were brand new.
The carriers are desperate for work. I was returning some items and the office was closed and they opened it up to be able to take my parcel. Volumes are way down. I try to not return items but it seemed clear that the carriers want the work.

I have heard that both Amazon and Sephora will block people from returning if they've exceeded a certain amount of money refunded in returns per calendar year. Should be illegal.
I'm sure it is in the US. I know in certain states in the US Attorney Generals will investigate if reported. Why advertise your return policy if there is a caveat attached and not letting customers know. Then maybe they customers can decide before ordering if they truly need or want it.

Hermes scarves do have small tags on them I own several.

It isn’t their fault if the brands pivoted too hard toward them or any other segment of their consumer base that in the moment appears to be more reliable. The shoppers are only doing what the brands allow.
You got it all twisted. The consumer decides to buy the products of the brands. If the consumers stop purchasing from the brands as if their lives depended on it, we would not be in this predicament today. Its a codependent relationship at this point and it is toxic.
