You guys are producing a lot of content! By far the most detailed and straightforward explanations of every technique on RUclips, keep going like this! I just hope mastering these five skills is as easy on my hardtail.
As I recall, I learnt to side-hop first as it was easy to roll alongside a clear footpath (sidewalk?) and judge the height I wanted. Muscle memory did it's thing after that and my riding style changed to match the obstacles I could clear - It made biking a lot more fun.
Well done, great, thanks for dimming the music at the right moments, just repeat the moves a couple of times for those of us that may be a bit slow on the uptake! Excellent!
Great videos. I am going to start incorporating the rolling endo in tight descending switchbacks like that. I usually just push a little hot and push force my rear wheel to drag while rear braking.
Can you please make a video with skill drills?! Preferably backyard drills, I don't have a track near my house so I'd be extatic with some examples of drills I can do on flat ground!
jelleyoni yes please, jumping would be great for me too. Any tips for getting over the initial fear of getting high off the ground would be good too! Thanks
jelleyoni Your main goal is to keep the bike level or land a little more on the back first in order to soften the landing. If it is a jump with no kicker to it you can just lean back a little for the takeoff and if the jump has a kicker you may need to do a little bunny hop at the lip. Also make sure you hit the jump straight on when starting. Practice makes perfect! (Or at least makes you better than before.)
great video but if you don't mind can you go more in depth on the side hop? I have been trying it for a while and cant seem to get the hang of it thanks
awesome videos! I just bought a mountain bike and watched a bunch of your videos! i learned some nice helpful things and my first ride was up and down an other than beginner mountain. Was crazy and crazy fun and i remember a lot of your tutorials. I have a question about this video. when you do that pump your feet are flat on the pedals so really the only thing that appears to be holding the bike is your hands. how does the pumping get the bike off the ground?
+Carey Nussbaum Thanks! HAve you seen the bunnyhop video? Its all about moving your weight a certain way. Neil ruclips.net/video/e-OkWl_1M4s/видео.html
nice vid ! I'll just add word... trackstand is more PRACTICE than technique, and it takes a lot of time to master it properly. in the vid it looks like, "oh just do like this and, tadaaaam trackstand folks !" ;) the best way to learn it the easiest is just practice it everytime at traffic lights and you'll slowly get it in three or four months.
I do Nr.1 all the time, even before I started to do Mountainbiking in particular. It's an fun and usefull skill to posess and I can do it almost for a couple of minutes :D
Wondering if you could do a video on upgrading a bike on a budget, what parts would you recommend, and what can be done with simple tools to improve a bike, I'm in the process of building my old frame uo for my girlfriend and she doesnt have too much money to throw at it! Thanks
Hey, nice video! Just wanted to let you know that at the end where you say click here for this and clicke there .. they are not clickable. Great channel :)
Yes thanks I have seen the bunny hop and a bunch of other of your videos! I learned a ton of needed things from them their excellent and came in handy! Especially since I seem to pick trails a lot more difficult then maybe I should be on. I seem to have a knack for that but they also make it super fun and challenging. I would make a youtube video on how not to pick a trail lol. You guys say don't pull on the bars but use your hips to move the bike. You guys make it look easy because you do it so well ! I been practicing but it doesn't seem so easy. What gives the momentum if your shoes are flat on the pedal and the only thing holding on really is your hands?
+Carey Nussbaum Practise moving around on the bike, getting your seat low helps for this. Grippy shoes and pedals help but the hips going up and forward (towards the bars) and a slight pull back against your pedals in a scooping motion will get your back wheel up. If it isn't working I think you probably need to get moving lower and further back on the manual. It is the large movement that makes it work. Neil
awesome Neil! I will practice doing that stuff! i really appreciate your help and replies! your videos are spot on a great source of useful information to a noob like myself ! its one thing to be a great rider another teaching it. you guys are excellent keep the videos coming!
+Carey Nussbaum A tip I've used to help with the bunnyhop is like Neil says with the "slight pull back against your pedals in a scooping motion". To illustrate this, iIf you hold the front brake on or rest the front wheel against a wall and place a foot on a pedal with the heel pointing high and toes pointed towards the ground you should, given pressure through the legs and into the pedals be able to pick the back wheel up off the ground. This principle is what, when all movements are synced correctly be able to give you that pop up. So, when bunnyhopping always try to push your toes down and bring your heels up and this will help raise the rear wheel. I also found it helped if all movements were over exaggerated, then lessened as progress is made until you can do decent hops with ease.

I now can do the turning endo hardly 180°, but I always stuck in turning my bar with me in the direction I turn. Everytime I do that, I get out of balance without 90° completed. It sucks, because I want to combine that with some sort of a fakie turn
Ever had anyone in their 40's learning this stuff? lol. All I use to do was ride and ride as a teen but then yadda yadda.....I've enjoyed some good trails over the past 3 or 4 years getting back to fun on a bike but never actually fooled with any of the tricks, they do seem handy if being more aggressive riding. I don't believe I'm too old to kick it up a notch, just wondering on you guys thoughts with it
This video was very helpful. im a lifetime bmxer getting into mtb this summer. im no pro but if the front of your bike hit hits first on an important bunnyhop it typicallly means someones going over the bars. just saying. get your ass back and pull harder. you can always drop you nose but bringing it up after you know it needs to be up takes and act of congress. pulll and drop your chest into the landing. love you fools, and go big or go snowboard.
Seth's advice on wheelies is really important: loop out on purpose a couple times and keep your arms straight now your not afraid to loop out when you practice wheelies.
No it won't. If it hurts your bike then you shouldn't be riding it anyways as it would break on a track and give you serious problems. The only thing to watch out for is bending your wheels by landing wrongly. If that happens you would have to true your wheels again.
Kyle Wainwright What Tire are you running? I have some experience with MAXXIS high roller 2s and If you apply to much brake, they tend to slip slightly, but if you can apply brakes with caution, you will learn to do it. Otherwise hit me up for advice if you wish, I'm glad to help.
Make a strength training video of how we can workout or train using gym equipment
Wtf? There's millions of channels out there for that.

Still convinced that bunny hops are a form of witchcraft.
bunny hops are easy, manual though.. witchcraft.
+Anna Svagzdys Keep practicing, you'll them eventually!
+JimmyJamesonJnr agreed
+JimmyJamesonJnr bunny hops, easy; wheelie, learn in a day; manual, learn in a week, saving up the money to buy a decent bike; WHICHCRAFT :)
it's a combination of magic and clicking your heels three times saying,"i can bunny hop".
I've always told myself that I don't know how to hop only my rear wheel, tried it the other day and to my amazement, I can hop just the rear wheel. :)
As I recall, I learnt to side-hop first as it was easy to roll alongside a clear footpath (sidewalk?) and judge the height I wanted.

Can we apply / try all these skills with no problems on hardtail bikes?
By the way, you're awesome guys! GMBN Rocks!
Ofcourse, go for it man.
My friend easily does these on a 14kg steel hardtail which costs 230e and I never managed to do any of them on a 600e bike.
Rodrigo Melo Hey Rodrigo, Yes these techniques crossover to any mountain bike. Have fun practicing. Cheers Marc
Cee Neiton same story for me LOL
+Perny villa yes these techniques good for any mtb

+stuart shelley I think it's the 740.
+stuart shelley The 700. the less numbers it has the better it is. Unless they have changed the system for labeling the bikes
What do you think about the budget Scott aspect 730?
You can't go wrong with Scott!
Thanks for the instructions.
Pretty interesting tips specially for beginners
Ratchet hops are very useful on more technical trails as well. Pretty hard on a mountain bike though

Of course. Anyone can ride a mountain bike, it doesn't matter about their skill level, just do the right trails for you.
