I have a new idea for the channel instead of just having you guys show us this stuff and bring in a beginner for a few months to show true progression and to be able to have him/her to be able to describe from a beginner point of view from what it feels like to the different things they tried to make it easier
Ashton Court blue trail in Bristol would have been a good place for this video: its easy for beginners but good fun for more experienced riders as well
I love the beginner videos. I’m 50 and just trying to have fun. The videos you guys make aren’t condescending, and it feels like you really want to help people learn, and you enjoy teaching. Thanks for the info, and I’ll keep watching.
Is it just me or do other hardtail riders get excited when theres a gmbn video made with the presenter riding a hardtail? Especially as im quite new to mtb and am desperate to learn more and go fast
My parents are just starting mtb and are finding it difficult to learn how lean the bike in corners and ride berms properly so if you could do a video "how to corner for beginners" or "how to ride berms for beginners" It would be absolutely AMAZING, my parents and I would be very thankful.
Nice post. Very difficult for beginner. Planning to start riding from next year as I just got a road bike and can only have budget to get a MTB next year and would be in my late 20s hopefully such videos would be done before then.
Great tips but entirely from a downhill perspective. Half the time you are going uphill. What about tips for climbing? When do you want your suspension locked out vs unlocked? When to try and stand (and how to) and when it's best to stay seated. True, the downhill bits are more dangerous and thus require more skill but uphill is fun too! At least if you're like me and love to climb. I am kind of opposite. The downhills are required links between the climbs. I just try and be safe on the downhills and look forward to the next climb. Sick, I know... ;)
GMBN-Blake, it’s a year old but I just watched this video and as always (I’m learning) your production and com-skills are off the chart. Thank you for what you bring to us.
In terms of position and soaking up the trail, it helps me immensely to focus on using my body as suspension for my head. Keeping my head still is easy to concentrate on and the rest happens automatically.
I really appreciate a video like this where editing is done to focus on what is important, and there isn't a bunch of filler. The example at 6:26 was genius. I also like the 'outlines' that come and go like :47 -- possibly even including that with timestamps at the top of the description (and ideally using the new RUclips feature where the progress bar is chunked and labelled). Once you've been riding you probably forget about what the problem areas are so if you ever do a follow up video you should consider inviting someone new who has only gone once or twice and then focusing on what they struggle with and asking them what questions they have. Thanks!
Im excited!! After I got my bike rack, I stopped by a local bike park, where I was able to finally look at the berm, and work on cornering, as well as the jumps. You are correct, your body has to be a sponge or damper where you soak up the energy as well, even in a hardtail. I wanted to practice more, also need to invest in some kneepads, lol
I just bought myself a Cube Attention SL (anorexic wallet) after my other bike got stolen and can't wait to ride it around the woods. I even took a week off next week to do so. Until next week I'm spending hours to watch your channel it's so fun to watch and informative as well. For me as a beginner there's so much to learn😂. You guys definitely deserved my thumbs up for your vids and I'll follow your channel!
Great vid. I'm guilty of the bad body posistion myself but because my legs and knees can't take more than a minute or so of being bent and supporting me over rough stuff. I always end up either stood locked up, one crank down, or just sitting down on a high seat again and rolling the rest. This doesn't seem to have improved over the last year or so I've been taking MTB more seriously.
I’ve been mountain biking for 11 years now and know pretty much all of those skills you mentioned. HOWERVER, it’s still great watching your vids since I always forget to put those skills into practice, it acts as a reminder to me Thanks GMBN for all that great content Cheers from south of the channel
Among all the redundant info we are so lovely taking in (and re-viewing every now and then voluntarily), this is by far the most useful and complete if you ask me. So, don’t ask!
Your videos are great! You guys have inspired me to get out and ride. I've learned so much from the channel. And Blake, you are an amazing presenter. The perfect blend of information and humor. Thanks!
I noticed when I was riding yesterday that I was riding with one foot low and one high. I didn’t realize it until near the end of the ride but I think I was doing it subconsciously because of fatigue and it feels a relief to extend that leg.
Im soo glad i dont do the early mistakes i didnt even know them i did know to level your cranks cause for me that was common sence and i cant spell thank you
Great video. I’ve been mtn biking for years, having learned my technique through practice, and at times, painful experience. Can’t wait to add some new skills to my riding.
ONE OF THE BEST CLASSIC MTB riding skills basics vids. EVER. To this day....every time I hit the trails....I hear Blake's voice in my head: "Lookin' aheaaaad....braaake....MUHAHHAHA!!!....pumpin'!!....even fastahh!!..." 😂 🏆 GET OUT OF MY HEAD!! 🤬 😂
I took notes on this skills video. I know Blake's tips are going to be an asset for me as I prepare myself to take on mountain biking. With Blake and his team's instruction and efforts, I'll have more fun and ride safe too.
Another great video guys! I've seen each tip mentioned in a variety of your videos, but I'm glad I found this one as it concisely lists and describes each one. OK, moving on to the next one. ;)
This video is extremely helpful for me. Thank you so much! also, I can tell that you really enjoy mountain biking. It tells me that I'd enjoy it as well once I get the hang of it.
Any new content for the advanced rider or racer? Would love some race day walk throughs for enduro or something. Racing a few this year along with dh but dont really know what to expect.
6:15 cornering with weight on back wheel ? If I try that my front wheel just slides out. I thought in unbanked corners we should keep weight on the front tire
Dropping the outside foot adds pressure to the rear. Staying upright and centered with your body while the bike changes angles will keep the front down as well. Its basically counter steering on a bike.
You're like a Kiwi Owen Wilson lol... Awesome videos man, keep em coming! I haven't even got my mountain bike yet, but these videos have got me all the more excited!
Could you guys do a video on how to ride when your a heavier and taller guy? Like how to prep the bike, the jumps, the turns, or even tips for getting a bike that will support you properly.
Both breaking ahead of a turn and looking at where you want to go instead of what's in front of you are transferable to driving a car. Two great beginner tips for you teens.
Dear gentlemen... you just got yourself another subscriber... Great explanations of great knowledge, wrapped in a very nice beginnerfriendly attitude. Thank you for your work! I just ordered my very first MTB after probably 20-25 years of not cycling at all.. nothing too professional still it was $400 which I hope is good enough to get a good feel for this new hobby of mine (hopefully!) I will keep watching your videos to learn more about all the do and dont's. Thank you !
Helpful video as always. Note to all new to Mtbing please be careful on walking/riding back up, most Mtb parks have a one way system in forced as getting hit by a Mtber doing 25+ mph as you walk up the trail can lead to very nasty accidents. thanks for the continued hard work of all GMBN.
Hmmm seems like my practice of the basics this summer is pretty much on track. I need to find a good place for practicing pumping tho, definitely need to work on that skill!
Not necessary on berms since they're banked. Level is better since your weight is more evenly distributed through the corner and keeps the bike steadier
I have a new idea for the channel instead of just having you guys show us this stuff and bring in a beginner for a few months to show true progression and to be able to have him/her to be able to describe from a beginner point of view from what it feels like to the different things they tried to make it easier
BigBoyGiraffe Graff been thinking this for a long time 👍🏻
Great idea!
Great idea
Great idea! Choose me! If they can teach anyone (I am new to MTB and about to turn 50), then they can teach nearly anyone!
Agree
6 Skills are all you need to ride a basic MTB trail! Give us a thumbs up if you found this video useful! 👍
Well didn't because I'm not a beginner but I still always give you thumbs up no doubt!
Global Mountain Bike Network
Good video!
Was he in bike park wales
What about body position for XC riders ? We cant low the seat you know
Ashton Court blue trail in Bristol would have been a good place for this video: its easy for beginners but good fun for more experienced riders as well

Totally agree with you on the "not condescending" part!
being a hard tail rider my self it's nice to see Blake making some videos on his hardtail
Camwithacam Vlogs yeah me too!
Thought the same thing.
Can you recognize the bike/frame ?
Yanko Hristov the bike he is riding is a nukeproof mega amd its top speck
More like Nukeproof Scout. The mega is the full suspension one :)
Just getting into mtb, at 61 years young. This video is just what I needed. Trek 7 will appreciate me having this knowledge. Thank you
My wife and I just got marlin 7s 😁
I also have been mountain biking inspired by the Gmbn boys. I am so thankful that they are here. Live long and have a great day bois!
*watches gmbn*
*turns to pro in 5 seconds*
*5 seconds later crashes and dies*

yah bro
Is it just me or do other hardtail riders get excited when theres a gmbn video made with the presenter riding a hardtail? Especially as im quite new to mtb and am desperate to learn more and go fast
Me too, I guess u might be a semi pro by now!
My parents are just starting mtb and are finding it difficult to learn how lean the bike in corners and ride berms properly so if you could do a video "how to corner for beginners" or "how to ride berms for beginners" It would be absolutely AMAZING, my parents and I would be very thankful.

Didn't Blake cover these skills in his video? I thought he did.
How are your parents doing?
Looking ahead and riding over loose gravel are the two things I struggle with
A trail + hardtail + flats = endless fun!
Except when the flats are in you tires...
Blake really makes any long Bike Videos more Entertaining to watch and Learn!!!

This is my favorite GMBN video yet! Very well done.
Hardtail for a change! Love it 👌

The most important thing is...
Have a bike
MARICEL BONTO ahahah made my day.
Not necessarily, I like to run down the trails making bike noises
Second most important thing:
Rubber side down
MARICEL BONTO Not really, the most important is to...
Have some trails 🥺
This video is masterfully edited. Love the music. Love the content. Amazing.
Thanks Blake for another hardtail video! 😎

Just ordered a Levo Comp and will be getting back into this after 20 years. So glad I came across your channel - subscribed!
Great video! Certainly picked up a few new skills from watching this, I'd have never thought about the pedals had it not been mentioned.
Im excited!! After I got my bike rack, I stopped by a local bike park, where I was able to finally look at the berm, and work on cornering, as well as the jumps. Y’all the real MVP. Thank you for all the tips!!!
You guys are awesome - thanks again for the videos.

Just imagining a T Shirt that says "Rough Bumpy Lumpy Jumpy" xD
Great teacher a skill in itself. Thanks!!

Love every GMBN's video 👍🏻 Have been around for like 2 years!!
Great video. I’ve been mtn biking for years, having learned my technique through practice, and at times, painful experience. Can’t wait to add some new skills to my riding.

I'm new to the mtb sport. Just got a hard tail and will be riding the trails soon. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Blake. Great video on how important the basics are. Basic skills like these are the heart of good riding.

As a soon to be mountain biker , I’m so grateful for all your videos! Thanks a lot 👍🏼💪🏼😊
I'm following you from Romania!!
When I learned popper body position my skill level went up a lot
These videos about hardcore hardtails make me rethink my decision to sell my Dartmoor Hornet. Videos on HCHT, keep 'em coming!
another amazing content! thanks GMBN . big thumbs up!
Another great video guys! I've seen each tip mentioned in a variety of your videos, but I'm glad I found this one as it concisely lists and describes each one. OK, moving on to the next one. ;)
Great tips! Thank you
This is really helpful, getting basic skills is the key to enjoying the trails.
This video is extremely helpful for me. Thank you so much! also, I can tell that you really enjoy mountain biking. It tells me that I'd enjoy it as well once I get the hang of it.
Thanks for uploading this type of skills in Hardtrail riding👍
Nice and very positive coaching so inviting...

Great job, mate. Very useful. Thanks.
Dream bike!!😍
Ill have my own someday😍😍🙏
have to say your channel is great always pleasure to watch
Really enjoy your style and informational content
Remy M said, stand on the sections that are flat. Race/attack position when turns/anything other than flat comes towards you.
Any new content for the advanced rider or racer? Would love some race day walk throughs for enduro or something. Racing a few this year along with dh but dont really know what to expect.
Be prepared to be tired AF after.
Brandong13 also what about some 4x tips!
Did you do well?!
Brilliant tips thank you! Very helpful...
I like that kind of video. Really usefull, basic but usefull to be reminded.
I would add to the approach angle to turn your head towards the direction of where you are going.
AWESOME! Thank you for this 💯
Some great advice here. Thanks alot!!!
Thankyouuu gmbn for this content 🤘
Thank you this is very helpful.
Yeah more hardtail videos!!!!!!
keep making good videos on this HardTail it look so cool ! and more realistic for us !

Excellent... Thank you

Awesome videos man, keep em coming! I haven't even got my mountain bike yet, but these videos have got me all the more excited!
Sounds more south African to me 🤷🏼♀️
Half of us are enjoying the scenery 😂
Well.... ❤️❤️ To GMBN
Am I the only one that talks to their self while riding? Like laughing and having fun?
You're not alone.
Could you guys do a video on how to ride when your a heavier and taller guy? Like how to prep the bike, the jumps, the turns, or even tips for getting a bike that will support you properly.
Hey Blakey great advise left crank down left turn right crank down right turn do it once and you'll never do it again big lesson learnt
Both breaking ahead of a turn and looking at where you want to go instead of what's in front of you are transferable to driving a car. Two great beginner tips for you teens.
I would like to suggest a video about cornering in regard to front brake vs back brake, no bake, and letting the tires grip through a turn.
Very informative, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, very helpful

Brilliant, nice simple basic stuff for everyone that can go out a practice to build up skills. , Good vid 👌
Damn really good advice! Wish I saw this before I broke my foot my 1st time on a trail
