Respect Kim, i'm Dutch and I'm living in Slovakia for longer time and i know how it's difficult and i have still some times problems with the language, but your progress is Superb. You are really smart girl, wish you good luck with learning this difficult language.
You are so cute I cannot with you. I am a Slovak and I always admire people, who are learning our language, because it really is no joke. Many Slovaks have problems with their own language, me included. It is just not an easy language and seeing foreign people doing their best to learn such a complex language makes me so proud of them. You are doing great and please, do not get discouraged by people who think otherwise.
When you approach a stranger and they do this gesture it usually means ''leave me alone/don't bother me'' People do it when they are busy or don't want to talk to someone or in some cases, if they don't understand you this is the way to let you know that you should just leave them alone because they don't speak English anyway so you don't waste your time. It's not meant to be rude. I never take it personally when people do it to me when I ask for directions. I just ask another person :)
depends ... it could mean also like nevermind or leave it be or dont bother me or go away its just like .... gesture for end of conversation of that make sense in some way :D
Its all about the way you introduce yourself and cuteness you put on accent , when it comes to talking to men you sound more ok fine good like 90 % slovaks like are either too busy or living up in their heads ^_^
Kim, I think you wanted to say "Prepacte..." instead of "Please.." ;) That hand gesturu is not rude mostly, it can be like "It is ok, let it be" but also "omg" it depends on other gestures the person do if they want to say it is ok with that gesture they smile if they are disappointed they roll eyes etc.

@@donut.covers it sounds off because it’s incorrect Slovakian is derived from Slovakia i assume, but that is not the official name of the country the official name is The Slovak Republic just like Czechs are not Czechians just because Czechia is the short geographical name for The Czech Republic in the Slovak language we say "Slovák" too, not "Slovenskoák/Slovenskoán"
@@FruityHachi actually I looked it up in the oxford dictionary, and both are correct according to that. But still, there are things in english that sound off and are actually correct, and vice versa. It means so much to me to watch this! I am half slovak and wasn't brought up speaking the language so now I really want to learn - its difficult, damn. One day I'll live there for a while. Thank you for a great video!
Hi Kimberly, don't be dissapointed if Slovak people wave their hands when you tell them you don't understand ( some Slovak phrase) but can speak English instead. In this case it basically means - I would love to speak to you, but I can't speak English well enough or at all, that sucks 😊. Sorry about that. It may look rude, but they just don't want to feel embarrassed 😊. That's it. Your Slovak pronunciation is great, by the way. I appreciate that you've learnt at least basics of our mother tongue and still want to learn more. Thank you for doing that.
Thanks for your sweet words Juraj. I am trying my best to learn the Slovak language so I can speak more with the locals and learn more about them :) Hopefully, I'd be able to do that. 😉
It's always difficult to make a significant progress in language learning because it requires deeper understanding of how people feel reality. We all go through the same struggles as language learners. Observe with curiosity, notice the patterns and keep going after any failure. If we have a strong desire and most importantly love to honestly express ourselves we can't fail in the long run 😊.
I like to see and I appreciate every foreigner trying to learn our difficult language... it's not that much for a 1 year but I get that it's very hard, especially those tricky words with no vowels etc. However, I think you're doing great with the basics, just keep it up and good luck! :)

That hand gesture means "I'm giving up, it's not worth my further effort" but it's used when they realise they don't speak English so there's no point of keeping trying to communicate.
Slovak is, indeed, incredibly difficult. All my respects to you for doing your best to continue to learn it! You're doing great! I hope you enjoy Slovensko :)
Hi girl, so excited to find out your channel. Im Vietnamese living in Slovakia for 1 year also. I also find that no vowels in words are impossible lols.
You're amazing. I honestly commend everyone who learns our incredibly difficult language. I've been learning English for pretty much my whole life and I can tell you- it's so much easier than Slovak. I feel like English is my mother language, cause it's just so much easier. So, great job! I really hope the difficulty doesn't discourage you from learning further, cause you seem to be really talented linguistically!
Oh thank you! You are the sweetest. I appreciate your kind words so much :) And I agree, learning the english language is a lot easier but I also enjoy learning Slovak, it's actually fun :)
Congrats, your Slovak is great, considering you have only been in the country for one year! It is one of the most difficult languages to learn. Well done, enjoy your new home country.
You should say "som Filipínčanka, žijúca na Slovensku", as that is the correct form, but otherwise, your skills are very good, I'm sure you'll get better in no time ❤
I am Slovak and I am very well aware of how difficult our language is and I must say that you learn it so shortly, you speak very well, especially as far as our words are soft, such as "č, š, ň, etc."
Keep going, respect to your efforts, our language is definitely not easy and you are doing really great!! Hope your life is unfolding great in our country! Thank you for this sweet video!
that is right, i hate when native speaker in slovak does not know basic grammar. it is very annoying, i am so glad that Kimberly is so good in our language
i live in a very hungarian crowded part of slovakia, so i barely know any slovakian, and everytime i try to learn and pay attention in class so i wont have trouble in the future with just asking for a train ticket, but i absolutely suck, so its really amazing how you already got this far with it!
Thank you, it is also difficult for me but I am determined to learn so I am doing my best. Goodluck on your study as well, I hope it will work out fine for you :)
Learning Slovak is definitely important for foreign students as well. It is not easy language, but by understanding it, you can get catch some phrases also from other Slavic languages. Thumbs up for effort!
I am amazed by you knowing this much. I know personally many people that are not from slovakia and are still struggling with the language after many years. Som ohromený len tak ďaľej. (Im amazed, keep going.) Also im a brit in slovakia. :D
Wow, you pronounce really well. I am actually from Czech Republic and its sweet to see someone learning Slovak. The gesture means "doesn't matter, what next?"
In this sense it can be anything on the scale of negative to positive. It really depends on the personality of the individual. It can be what Andrej Stopka said, but also “whatever, forget about it”.
It doesn't have to be bad.. probably the person you are talking to just can't speak English, and he/she doesn't want to look stupid, so they do this "whatever" gesture to make you look stupid. Don't worry about it, we Slovaks, are not always as polite as you mentioned above. ;P
The gesture means “ never mind" and meaning is that the person didn't think that the think he wanted to do would be that hard (requires some kind power) so they stop doing it by the waving hand gesture... BTW your Slovak pronunciation isn't very good and some word was even written wrong, but it is nice to see that someone is trying to learn this hard language :) when you do you will find out that it is one of the best and nicest languages in the world...
Yea, I agree that I made a lot of mistakes in this video specially the spelling but I am happy a lot of you guys have corrected me. As for the pronunciation, yea, it is still a struggle to pronounce some of the words in Slovak because well, it is just difficult haha 😂 But I am enjoying the process and looking forward when I will be able to strike a conversation with a native Slovak speaker already 😉
It's amazing to hear that you are interested in learning our language and are already so good at it after just a year! Thanks for posting this to your audience ((: Btw I wanted to clarify that the hand gesture was probably used dismissively like that because the people might not know English and they are not sure how much slovak you know so they don't want to get into a full on body language conversation or they are in a hurry. Also just for fun: the phrase at the end "Nič sa nestalo" can be also used when someone bumps into you, drops something that you gave them or forget to do something you asked of them (like buy bread on the way home). When they apologise to you, you just say this phrase in the sense of "Don't worry, it's no big deal, nothing happened." (Can be used instead of "Nevadí" or together "Nevadí, nič sa nestalo")
I am an American living in sk. My first learned phrase was. Pomoc.... Stratil som sa!

The hand gesture is not disappointment at all, it just means let it be or leave it, never mind...and one last thing: Nothing happened is Nič sa nestalo (you have a little mistake there). All the best and we are happy to welcome you among us ;) Take care
Thank you Michal for your beautiful comments! I really appreciate it, and happy about that hand gesture 😂😂 And yea, I was corrected about Nič sa nestalo by my mother-in-law. I'm always confused with the č! Thanks I appreciate this 😉😉
in this particular case, "nech" seems to be the ENG phonetic spelling for NIČ .... any ENG native would very probably pronounce "nech" as "nyč" (knowing nothing about the palatalizing trait/function of "i")
Been in Slovakia 3 months now, you're very inspiring :)
Thank you Phil!! I hope you are enjoying Slovakia too 😀
It's nice to meet you , it also petty hard for me to speak Slovak to my mother in law,
Hi Jessica!! It is nice to meet you too! I know the feeling of frustration when you want to speak to your mom-in-law but you just can't 😂😂😂
Respect Kim, i'm Dutch and I'm living in Slovakia for longer time and i know how it's difficult and i have still some times problems with the language, but your progress is Superb. You are really smart girl, wish you good luck with learning this difficult language.
Ohh, I didnt know this before. Thanks for bringing it up! I will surely remember next time. You are the best 👍🏽
@@ChasingKimberly you are the best Kimberly ;)
You are so cute I cannot with you. I am a Slovak and I always admire people, who are learning our language, because it really is no joke. Many Slovaks have problems with their own language, me included. It is just not an easy language and seeing foreign people doing their best to learn such a complex language makes me so proud of them. You are doing great and please, do not get discouraged by people who think otherwise.
Thank you so much Shiro for your kind words and encouragement I appreciate it a lot. I will do my bets to get better with my Slovak language 😉
That's good to know Vladimír!! I always felt like it is a disappointment on their part, but now it's much clearer! Appreciate your comment 😉😉
depends ... it could mean also like nevermind or leave it be or dont bother me or go away its just like .... gesture for end of conversation of that make sense in some way :D
@@mathewdyffryn8693 that's exactly what I've said in my comment 🤔 but thanks for repeating it 😅
@@vkdrk not at all but yea no problem 😂
Its all about the way you introduce yourself and cuteness you put on accent , when it comes to talking to men you sound more ok fine good like 90 % slovaks like are either too busy or living up in their heads ^_^
Kim, I think you wanted to say "Prepacte..." instead of "Please.." ;) That hand gesturu is not rude mostly, it can be like "It is ok, let it be" but also "omg" it depends on other gestures the person do if they want to say it is ok with that gesture they smile if they are disappointed they roll eyes etc.
Thanks 😉💚🙋🏽♀️
TBH I'm pretty impressed. That's really not bad. Good luck in learning!
Thanks Peter! 💜💜
The whole Slovakia is rooting for you! I’m Slovak and my husband isAmerican 🇺🇸 and he will use your videos now to progress with the language. We live in Prague but would love to meet you one day and just hang and exchange on lives in foreign countries. I work with Philippinos on daily basis and I find you guys truly amazing, so kind, warm, easygoing and welcoming.. You are doing great with the language and I admire you for even trying! Keep going!
Thanks Lucia, I am so happy my videos are able to help your husband with the language. Its a difficult language, but with determination we will be able learn it even a little 😉
8:48 The hand gesture would be somewhat along the lines with "forget it", "whatever". But basically it means "but I don't (speak english)". LOL. Great video BTW! I wish you much success in Slovakia!
thank you so much! :)
the hand gesture means ,,never mind”
Or "let it be".
or "forget it"
And they are probably saying it because theay are not good at english. 🥲
I think you sound awesome ❤❤ I'd love to live in Slovakia. My grandmother is from a little village there ❤
Thanks April. Slovakia is a great place to live :)
thumbs up for saying Slovak and not Slovakian (it’s my pet-peeve)
so true 😂
I'm pretty sure Slovakian is correct too, but it sounds so off
@@donut.covers it sounds off because it’s incorrect
Slovakian is derived from Slovakia i assume, but that is not the official name of the country
the official name is The Slovak Republic
just like Czechs are not Czechians just because Czechia is the short geographical name for The Czech Republic
in the Slovak language we say "Slovák" too, not "Slovenskoák/Slovenskoán"
@@FruityHachi well that just sounds weird XD
@@FruityHachi actually I looked it up in the oxford dictionary, and both are correct according to that. But still, there are things in english that sound off and are actually correct, and vice versa.
Edit: Although, in the cambridge dictionary, only Slovak is correct, so honestly I don't know anymore. I prefer Slovak anyway
You're doing great! Keep up the good work:) I have a colleague from China who married a Slovak guy, and after a few years now her Slovak is really good, she can read newspapers, chat to people at work. And another acquaintance from Serbia went to live in South Korea, and she mastered the language after a few years. Even though our native languages are so different, it's possible to learn them well enough to be able to communicate in everyday life.
yes I believe that as well! It just takes time 😊😊
Yeesss girl you’re doing amazing!!! I live in Slovakia and I know how difficult it is to learn! Keep going❤️
Thank you! Will do! 😉
You are very receptive person (especially those “slovak most using gesture” 😆👏👏👏). You will appreciate those language skills in your future trips thru our beautiful country 🥰
Thank you Andrea 😊😊
Hey! Your Slovak is savage. I was raised in Slovakia from my 8th years so I really have no idea how I learned Slovak, but it's true it's really difficult. Glad found you by accident and good luck with everything in your life 🥰❤️ you should come to Košice!
I am definitely visiting Kosice someday, when all these crazy pandemic thing is over. Thanks for watching my videos, I am happy you are liking them 😉
Hi i’m Slovak an your Slovak language is pretty good. I’m proud of you. Btw the hand gesture means something like never mind or let it go and if you want to say it in Slovak you can use ‘Nechaj to tak’

Ďakujeme Kim. 🙋

I'm studying in slovakia, it's been 3 years now. And your Slovak is waaay better than mine!! Lol. Keep it up!

Lovely video, we are Slovakian and live in the UK . The hand gesture means “ it doesn’t matter” .We hope you like Slovakia. You have got really good Slovakian for such a short time of learning, well done.
Wow!! Na to že rok sa učíš je to super 😘🤗🤗. Good job. I'm proud of you. 😘😘. Pozdravujem zo Slovenska
As a Slovakian citizen, I have to say that slovak is defenitly one of the hardest languages out there.
Your a Slovak citizen, there's no such word Slovakian. Please get it right.
I'm Slovak living in China and this video just hit differently
Hahaha, don't be too harsh on your BF, Slovak is a difficult language to learn for foreigners 😂
@@ChasingKimberly Yes it is! I'm trying to take the pressure of completely since I can speak all languages he and his family speak but it'd be nice if he could hold just a basic conversation with my family too 😊
Religious Mormons from America in Slovakia learned the Slovak language very well in one year.
Waa u are really good! I am not from slovakia, but Czechia so I understand😁❤️
I think Czech is much more difficult than Slovak language? Would you agree? Anyways, thanks for watching my video, Im glad you liked it 😂
This just melted my heart ♥️ got you recommended for some reason but I'm glad. I live in the UK now for over 2 years and because of covid I couldn't see my family and I just miss my home country
You are doing a great job learning the language. 👌 Keep it up
And the gesture means
Never mind in some cases it can be seen like 'yeah sure' in a sarcastic way. Depends on the situation
Thank you Roberta, I know how hard it must be to miss your family and not be able to see them! I hope you will meet them soon 😉
It means so much to me to watch this! I am half slovak and wasn't brought up speaking the language so now I really want to learn - its difficult, damn. One day I'll live there for a while. Thank you for a great video!
Hi Daisy! Thanks for watching my video. I'm really glad that you liked it 😊
Hi Kimberly, don't be dissapointed if Slovak people wave their hands when you tell them you don't understand ( some Slovak phrase) but can speak English instead.
@@jurajkralik3597 Thanks Juraj for your wonderful and encouraging words, I appreciate it a lot. I will do my best 💚

Thumbs up for effort!

That hand gesture means "never mind"
Thank you soo much! Learnt that recently 😉😉
The hand means" never mind"
11:12 If you want to say that nothing happens, the word “nič” is enough.
Oh really now? That's great! something new. Thank you Adam! 😉

Thanks a lot! I wish I learned more but its a difficult language 😂😂 Glad you liked my video 😉
Wow, you pronounce really well. I am actually from Czech Republic and its sweet to see someone learning Slovak.
The gesture means "doesn't matter, what next?"
Thanks Vlada 😉😉
9:30 it means "kašlem na to" which means "i give up" or " "duck it" we use it when we have no more patience with u😂 but its not bad
the hand gesture is a literal "whatever"
or more like "jebať" ... meaning fuck that
More like "whateves"
In this sense it can be anything on the scale of negative to positive. It really depends on the personality of the individual. It can be what Andrej Stopka said, but also “whatever, forget about it”.
come on now, F* that is just a STUPID way of saying "Whatever"
Hi, you are doing great. Appreciate you taking time and effort to learn our language. All the best to you!
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it a lot 😉
It's amazing to hear that you are interested in learning our language and are already so good at it after just a year! Thanks for posting this to your audience ((:
Btw I wanted to clarify that the hand gesture was probably used dismissively like that because the people might not know English and they are not sure how much slovak you know so they don't want to get into a full on body language conversation or they are in a hurry.
Hello Mari, thanks for sharing these tips with me! I can definitely use these phrases in my everyday life 😉😉
