Andrew seems like a man who has learnt about himself on his journey through life and has become his own teacher, loved his openness, this was a lovely episode 🤗💖
Yeah, he seems like a "real" person even though he's technically a celebrity. He's always been on the periphery of the Hollywood celebrity group. That's a really cool thing, actually.
This episode is so powerful. Andrew definitely opened up and had so many great stories. His book sounds so moving. His documentary sounds so fascinating. Weekend At Bernie’s is such a great movie. Loved this episode.
He was my director for a few episodes of Turn: Washington's Spies. A lovely man! He remembered me a year later for next season even though I was just background actor.
Mr Rosenbaum it is with deep gratitude I send this. I've gone through some serious stuff lately and your inside of you program has helped me cope with a lot. Appreciate all your work for the rest of us. Keep up the good work
The movie Weekend at Bernie's is a National treasure. My wifes mother loved that movie so much that she wore out her VHS copy and we got her the DVD and she had it on loop most evenings in her home. When she got ill she had it on almost 24/7 in her hospital room and we remember her laughing at it the night she passed away. Great interview and I will pick up the new book by Andrew McCarthy, it sounds great. We still watch Weekend at Bernie's a few times per year in our home and it holds up great.
Weekend at Bernie’s was my dad’s favourite movie. I watch it often because I get the memory of when he watched it the first time and was crying in laughter. It was the only time I saw him cry, and it was amazing seeing him cry from laughing so much. I love the movie but it has a very special meaning to me because it helps me remember my dad.
Fantastic interview. Born in the 70s and an 80s kid and grew up with Andrew with so many films: Pretty in Pink, Less than Zero, Weekend at Bernies, Fresh horses, etc. Such a humble dude and found this interview extremely therapeutic. I suffer with depression and suicide and it helped me! You should get Emilio Estevez on here!!!
The day i saw my step father at a low point for the first time, was the day my love for him soared through the roof. Since then i have the utmost respect for that man. The one who raised me, because my actual father wouldnt. Great interview.
Another terrific job by Michael, Andrew was a wonderful guest who was very open and honest. I am having a hard time going back to episodes that I missed when they were first on, slowly catching up. Is there some way that the podcasts can be accessed chronologically from the beginning?
@@vibeofthee80s_yeah if he could let Andrew actually talk about his life. If I’m watching an Andrew McCarthy interview I wanna know about his life… not that bellend Michael who clearly loves the sound of his own voice
Thank you so much for this interview. When you asked Andrew if he missed drinking, I completely related. After 32 years of sobriety, I don’t miss a thing. The best conversations, it was insightful and therapeutic. ♥️
It's amazing how many people haven't seen the movie Class(1983)with Andrew. It also starred Rob Lowe and Jacqueline Bissett not to mention a young John Cusack and Virginia Madsen.
I love the story (that he didn't share here) where he lived with Jacqueline Bisset and Alexander Godunov when he moved to LA and Bisset would drive him to auditions in her Cadillac. That's so Hollywood.
Andrew seems so nice. Been a fan of his my whole life. Sorry to hear about your grandma. Im having similar issues with mine as well. Its so sad to see that happen. Thanks for the podcast guys. I always enjoy listening(and watching).
I just discovered your show and I'm loving it! Its interesting to go back and watch your interviews as covid progresed, seeing how it affected your guests and perusing the comment section you can see the wide range of responses to covid precautions. I wish I knew about your show sooner because I love getting to know the people behind the characters that have been a large part of my life (52f). On the other hand its like I found a little box of jewels that I can appreciate one by one at my leisure as I watch them all while getting new content! I will be heading to PATREON to show my appreciation.
Just heard the podcast, loved it. Sometimes I like just listening, and other times I want to come to YT and see the person - so glad there are both options! Lots of love ✨
Mr. McCarthy’s role on White Collar is among my all time favorite performances. There are those actors that can become the character to the point where you forget the real person for a brief time. I don’t know why, but that particular role stands always stands out in such a powerful way for me!
Oh my teen crush! No one ever made making out in a barn as romantic. The shower scene in St Elmos Fire was just epic. 😊😊😊 McCarthy is just a great actor to make us all believe in love in so many fantastic movies. I’m old enough to remember how bitter the Brat Pack label was and seemed just brutal to all them for no good reason. Honestly it was confusing to a teen fan as to what happened all of the sudden to these actors we all loved and grew up with.
I recently saw Andrew in a role in “The Resident” and he’s a really skilled and subtle actor. He’s also a very good writer. “Brat” is a great book. Also enjoyed “Walking with Sam” but “Brat” is his best.
Weekend at Bernie's made me discover Andrew McCarthy and I absolutely LOVE that movie. I laughed so hard the first time I watched it. I watch it quite often now. To hear him talk a little about it and for it to be positive...it just made my heart so happy. I read his Brat Pack book not too long ago and was able to learn more about him and his career. Such a talented man. I'm so glad you got him on the podcast. This was really wonderful. He seems so real and personable. You guys really hit it off on the conversation.
Hey, thank you so much for this conversation. So insightful and open. Loved this. I have been watching Smallville again. I know intellectually that people are uhm, Acting, on television etc.. Having said that I often notice actors who seem to just be playing versions of their own (public)personality in each medium I watch them in. Having listened to this podcast and watching Smallville...Wonderful acting. Thank you for, and great appreciation for all your work. Take good care and hope you and your new pup are enjoying one another! 😊
I love seeing him on the screen! I get super excited and I'm instantly glued to that show and I have to see more of it in the off chance that he shows up again! ❤❤❤❤
A lot of emotion came over me during this podcast. The discussions, the tone, the affability, the honesty... all amplified by the fact that Andrew takes me right back to the 80s, especially since he hasn't changed one iota. He must have signed a pact with Satan to age so gracefully! He really gives us the qualities of a calm leader, almost a psychologist, and at ease with himself! But darn it! These pesky commercial interruptions, always at the wrong time, are a real nuisance, even if I understand the need for them! There. I had to say it.
Andrew is such an 80s icon. He was one of those actors that in 80s, if a movie was coming out and he was in it. You knew it would be good. Either a really good drama or a really funny comedy. I truly miss actors like this.
I just went through that with my mom, who was done raising me at 12, telling me at 12,’Hope this works out for the best. For us.’ Then last November, my sister called and I went to see her. There was nothing said. I wasn’t looking for an apology, maybe, for once, I was looking at her to show me it’s okay to screw up, your parents aren’t perfect but they did their best with what they had, in which my dad and I were always close. He showed up. The day I left my childhood home, to be given to a man who I guess was my dad. But he didn’t have a home, nothing. He was a traveling Salesman. There was never a conversation that ended without an I love you. Never. I hadn’t seen her in 30+ years, she met only one of her grandchildren, once. And the day I last saw her, I wore a graduation shirt with said child on the front. Towards the end of the visit, I asked her if she knew who it was. She was at a blank. No clue. Parents are so confusing. Even though I had 30 years to deal with that visit, i wasn’t prepared to have it staring me in the face, of the one person on earth who’s suppose to unconditionally love me, didn’t.
I knew Andrew's father. I did business with him in Maine. He was a nice guy. I'm sorry to hear that he passed. I wish you all the best Andrew. I love how you have managed your narrative.
38:14 origin of “Brat Pack” and negative consequences Hey, producers picked a similar cast repeatedly in upper middle class mostly suburban youth movies and that term stuck for good reason.
This was great. Love all the brat pack movies, especially the John Hughes ones. They really informed a lot of my own sensibilities when writing characters; I've always wanted to write those kinds of young characters you just don't really see much of in film today unless its somebody doing a sendup or pastiche. There's just this je nais sais quoi about those brat pack-era characters that actors like McCarthy inhabited that are just so 'of the era'. I get really nostalgic for them.
Really enjoying this so far. Definitely going to check out his book Walking with Sam. Sounds fascinating. Thanks for all you do and being the best part of my day 🙏❤️.
I loved The Brat pack. But I thought Andrew was the coolest. I’ve loved his movies. I know he directs now. I’ve read his books. I married someone just like him. Going on 30 years.
