      Should have asked him about the differences between Reese and Hicks. Both have that trustworthy and calm demeanor, with Reese exuding a sense of high strung urgency and Hicks a strange calmness under pressure. Two such very different characters really, yet both have that undercurrent of warmth and total reliability.

    Michael Biehn was the first celebrity I'd ever "met" at a Con. It was after his day had already wrapped, and he had no reason to give me his time. But the man was more than just pleasant, he was amazing. Grew up with his pictures, and cherish the meeting.

      From my 80s heroes I met only Carl Weathers, also pretty late in one con and he looked kinda happy to sign my picture of Dillon from Predator instead of 1000 Apollos before me. Talked a little bit with him about how he still looks great, about my name and we did famous handshake from Predator at the end of convo. Highlight of the year for me.

    • @jedijones
      @jedijones 4 месяца назад +1

      I met him at a con, and after talking for a couple of minutes, he kind of brushed me off and ended the conversation even though no one else was waiting behind me. Maybe he had something else going on, I don't know. But it made me feel like I said or did something wrong, which I don't think I did.

    • @Moviefan2k4
      @Moviefan2k4 4 месяца назад

      @@jedijones I had a similar experience with Billy Dee Williams, many years ago. He didn't brush me off individually per se, but he didn't seem to be happy at the con. He didn't talk to anyone, and didn't pose for fan photos. He just kept signing one shot after another, and moving on - it was like a cattle call. Real disappointing too, because I liked him as Lando Calrissian and Harvey Dent.

    I was very impressed by how he talked about young filmmakers with a small budget in whom he believed and together they made a cool project, but most of all I was impressed by the story about James Cameron, who is actually not such a cold and mechanical “boss” of cinema, but a real a living, deeply sensitive person with a high level of empathy. I really dream that James would invite Michael to his next projects - for example, Avatar 3 4 5 and other projects.

    Since Beihn is getting so much praise here, I know this is the place to name drop a criminally underrated movie of his: Timebomb. It's basically a smaller-scale version of "The Bourne Identity", but the movie still delivers on PLENTY of action sequences (fight scenes, car chases, and gun shootouts). Beihn does A LOT of his own stunts and the dude is ripped to shreds in it. Unfortunately it came out in 1991, which was the time when not only was the 80's action movie formula already on its way out, it also got swept under the rug like a lot of great movies that year due to another little action film starring one of Beihn's coworkers: Terminator 2.

    I like these interviews with Michael Biehn, he's quite candid, and the guy was a stud in the 80's. Whenever he gets into these stories I always want to hear more then the subject gets changed and that's it. I mean he had to replace another actor in Aliens and the other actors had already bonded, and half the crew were at odds with Cameron. And this stuff with Tombstone; it's amazing with all the turmoil going on with production the movie should have been awful, but it turned out great; it's considered a classic. That's so rare, there were really some smart people that came together to be able to piece together what became the released version.

  • @LloydWoodall

    Michael Biehn is a delight. Just a treat to hear him speaking, these stories, his humor and honesty. A class act and genuine human being, being who he is.
    And man, I do wish there was an uncut script of Tombstone out there to be had. It sounds like it'd much more like The Magnificent Seven (where there was at least a scene with Calvera and his men to try and even things a bit).
    I love the movie as it is, but reading a longer version? No question, I want it.

    As a sound designer and sound recordist I work on the type of low budget movies that Biehn describes. You can make high quality films for virtually no money and make them look like they cost millions with the tech we have now, if you get good actors a talented DP, and take the time to get the lighting right. Film making is so accessible today compared to 20 years ago.

    Michael Biehn is a star! not in the Hollywood sense but in his art, he is among those very rare artists who consider themselves lucky to "play", humble and honest towards his profession and his audience. We are always happy to see him in those incredible parts and characters. He's becoming rare and I can't wait to see his latest films. He deserves a show like "True Detective", "Justified" or "Succession", he would be amazing.

    When I was little, the mom of my 2 best friends, was the great niece of the Clanton's from Tombstone. She always told everyone that the story most people know was not the truth, her family was bullied back then and then villainized by the history books. I've seen a lot of information since the movie came out that has started to acknowledge that the 'heroes' weren't really the good guys that history painted them as. I always credited that movie as earning her family a small bit of justice.

    I just realized how much Michael Biehn looked like Jack Nicholson. If you look at him sitting in the corner from a distant, while wearing his “sunglasses at night”. It’s like seeing Jack in the 90s.

    Favorite Biehn moment from The Abyss: in the submersible the tape deck starts playing music and Coffee smashes the player with his elbow and gives one little sheepish look back at the player. What a perfect moment by Biehn.

    I've always loved Michael Biehn. If I had the choice of being any Hollywood actor, I would be Michael. Especially during the 80s! His roles have always been bad ass, whether he's a cowboy, Space Marine, Navy SEAL or love struck time traveler, he's always been memorable.

    My God the deleted scene from T2: Judgement Day with Sarah Connor was so touching. That scene should've been in the final cut of the film when they released the film in theaters back in 1991.

      The theatrical cuts and directors cuts of all Jim Cameron films are always completely different films. He is the king of making a good popcorn film for the theatres and then releasing a much deeper, more thoughtful, more interesting version on video (look how old I am - haha) a couple of years later. And once you've seen that director's cut, you just can't go back to the baby slopes.

      I remember how livid the audience was on the day it premiered here in Europe (myself included), because we had seen a glimpse of him and heard his voice saying "He´s all alone... YOU have to protect him!" in the trailers for months. We had no idea the scene had been cut. So I remember us sitting there and waiting all excited for him to show up when we finally were at the asylum with Sarah.... and then nothing. I was 16, had crushed on that guy for seven years and had waited all these years to see him as Kyle again... I felt emotionally obliterated.

    Michael Biehn should have a podcast. Do an episode for each movie and TV show he has been involed in. A deep dive long form interview. Get a good researcher host. In the style of the Conrad Thompson wrestler podcasts (83 Weeks, Something to Wrestle With). I.e. a 2 hour deep dive into Navy Seals. Every detail from getting an offer to today. No one does anything like that. His career is really tailored to that and he is candid and genuine enough to make it compelling. I hope he sees this.

    As a kid, my favorite Action Star was Arnie (I was born in 85) but I would ALWAYS say my favorite Hero in a movie was Kyle Reese… Played by Biehn, I have many memories of myself running through my house in a trench coat welding a plastic sawed-off chasing my dad who happily played the terminator. Loved watching this ❤️
