      Good point. One of the most understated things of this show is the need for a mental understanding of what you're attempting to undertake. If an Alchemist could set up the situation, draw the circle, and have any person just put their hands on it, then the entire world would be Chaos. Alchemy can only be performed by people with the ability, which I think is mental ability (having a gate to 'truth'), and the knowledge of what they're doing with the ingredients they've gathered.
      This would would be a nightmare if you could just print up gloves with Mustangs circle on it and spread them around.

    Envy can't copy people's abilities... and having roys gloves wouldn't be enough to do his flame alchemy. Alchemy is not like magic where if you get a magic wand you can do spells. The first step of alchemy is understanding, which is very complicated... and understanding a specific type of alchemy doesn't mean you understand all alchemy.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge Год назад

      And the homonculi can't ever do alchemy, they don't have a gate.

  • @Metal-Spark
    @Metal-Spark Год назад +16

    Ok so I wanna clear up something about alchemy - just because someone has Mustang's transmutation circle (on his gloves) doesn't mean they can replicate his powers.
    An alchemist needs a thorough and scientific understanding of what he's doing to be able to do it. Even a talented alchemist like Ed couldn't take Mustang's gloves and do flame alchemy without specifically studying how that works. So someone like Envy, who so far we've never seen use alchemy, has no chance.
    It's an important note because if all you need was the diagrams then there'd be no reason not to mass produce Mustang's gloves for the military.
    All alchemists can turn one thing into another, a basic transmutation, but particularly skilled alchemists often have a speciality of some kind, like the ice guy from episode 1.

  • @AnarchHive
    @AnarchHive Год назад +13

    The flame gloves alone do nothing but create a spark. Mustang is a powerful alchemist because he has the knowledge of flame alchemy to transmute that spark into mighty flames. Ed and Al despite being geniuses could not use Roy's gloves for more than a spark.
    Envy disguising herself as Mustang and doing a high publicity stunt like killing the escaped suspect of a murder case would lead to the real Mustang to call bullshit, wasn't him. If that happens, Roy and his team, the Elrics and Armstrong _know_ that they are facing a shapeshifting enemy - that is not in the interest of the homunculi.

  • @houseofaction
    @houseofaction Год назад +29

    I would like to point out that statistically speaking even in murder trials most evidence is circumstantial evidence, and the evidence against Maria Ross is actually pretty ironclad. the weapon used to murder hughes was a .45 which is the same caliber of gun that Maria uses, she made a requisition for new ammo, and fired a single shot from her .45, they also have an eye witness placing Ross at the crime scene(envy literally shape shifted into her). the only people who know for sure she is innocent is we the viewers and the people who are framing her.
    military tribunals are also different. they don't go the same way a civilian court does. so legally speaking its pretty easy to convict her

  • @jmon24ify
    @jmon24ify Год назад +8

    it's interesting to hear people's surprise or confusion on how the "trial" was handled in this episode. when you have corrupt or ill intentional individuals in charge, anything goes.

    • @joshuafischer684
      @joshuafischer684 Год назад

      It's also reasonable to consider it from the perspective of someone in-world. Envy disguised as a random civilian gives a detailed account of events. Envy would know information that the investigation hadn't released, thereby establishing credibility. Yes, the tribunal was a railroading, but there would have to be enough evidence to pass basic scrutiny, and there's a LOT of evidence. Only we the audience know that there's a shape-shifter running around, so a credible witness saying "I saw Maria Ross shoot Hughes" is going to hold weight.

So, each bullet will create different deformation patterns; the only similarity is the size of the holes created. • @zihkar

    As for the bullets, yes in modern criminology it is fairly easy to match a bullet to a target hit. Bullets can be put back together like a puzzle and in the shows case the 45 acp round from her gun didn't fragment. It smashed down on impact and punched through the target Barry's hand armor. Meaning you can gauge the powder load, barrel length and distance from target then use those to give a start as to the force it had on impact. With that you can then look at the thickness, density and type of material it hit and get an idea of how it would rip, expand, bend and so forth. Basically with the bullet, the gun and the targets hand you can 100% prove it hit that target and with how much force based on the damage it did to it. Which again the force of impact boils down to certain factors already mentioned above so you can say with near certainty that her story checks out. In this case though that bullet didn't hit Barry so and you can prove that based on the damage wound of the armor hand. What it also a hard proof is the barrel markings left on the bullet. A grooved barrel leaves very unique markings to each barrel. So with that bullet and gun alone you can say it wasn't fired from her gun unless the killer somehow had her barrel or gun itself to make the kill. Guns are a form of science and science can break down how they work to a near perfect T. So as long as you have enough puzzle pieces for the equation of course. There are lots of gun science channels on youtube and many have great showcases on all of this. Never hurts to get some free education!

    Just fyi, that could never have been Envy impersonating Mustang. Alchemy can technically be performed by anyone, including homunculi, but it takes years of study to be proficient in even one type of material. Alchemists are also secretive about their knowledge, so most people don't specialize in the same thing. The only way to bypass the years if study is to see the Truth by performing human transmutation. And even then, Ed and Al only perform general alchemy, they are never able to create the explosions Mustang can.

    The main issue with them questioning if her gun killed Hughes is that ever gun leaves a distinct barrel signature that directly leads it back to a specific weapon , they should have easily been able to tell it wasn’t her gun that killed him

You two are so smart & wonderful, really love all your deductions & theories along with all on your psychology knowledge, especially with AOT, so interesting!! I haven't seen many people talk about why the characters do what they do like you two. But please consider watching Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, I know everyone loves Brotherhood but there's A LOT in 2003 that's not in this series, I feel like the only way to get the full experience of this series, you have to watch the 2003 series the movie, & then brotherhood, I prefer the 2003 series, its a bit more serious & darker, just some food for thought! Love you guys, keep doing what you're doing!!

    Your first discussion in the video made me think of one of the few summer reading books I liked, it was called The Rag and Bone Shop, it was really good. I already disliked it when someone didn't want the real truth so that book just solidified that even more, probably why I liked the show Bones so much it was the best at getting evidence from the body itself than mere speculation.

    A lot of people make the mistake of assuming Mustang is Envy in this episode, but the Homunculi actually can't perform alchemy, even if they had his gloves. The only "alchemy" they can perform is their random abilities, like Greed rearranging the carbon molecules to create his shield, or when their bodies regenerate. (Though this is not by choice.)

    3:03 this is so fucking funny for the Japanese legal system, because from what i've heard and read, and fom my layman point of view, While in the US we have a "Innocent until proven guilty" as in unless there is evidence to prove you guilty/to get a jury to believe you are guilty, you are innocent, while like in japan it is "Guilty until proven innocent" where its the opposite, you have to create/find an alibi, etc. I only know about this because I was weirded out with how the Phoenix wright games legal system works, but it makes sense with what i've heard/read about japanese legal system.
    In all honesty I do believe that the "Innocent until proven guilty" method is in fact scientific methodology imo and 100% correct. If you 100% assume a theory to be true from the start (innocent), then you should try as much as you can to disprove that theory to affirm your beliefs/suspicions (until proven guilty).
    I def understand Montana's thoughts though. but imo unless people can come up with a better system of prosecutors trying to find everything they can and fit it in with suspects, attourneys trying to find the flaws into everything they found, and a jury to be able to be as unbiased as they can, its a great methodology/scientific theory imo.

    The homunculi can't use alchemy (beyond shifting their own bodies in specific ways). Someone who isn't born with a natural talent for alchemy (like Winry or Hughes) can't just touch a transmutation circle or wear a clothing item with a transmutation circle and just use that to perform alchemy, nothing would happen. They could possibly use a philosopher's stone if they understand some basic alchemy principles and science, which is another reason the stones are so dangerous. Even an alchemist putting on Roy's cinder gloves would have to have a good understanding of the science and math of flame alchemy in order to use the glove effectively, and they would have to understand it well enough to focus the flame on a single human body rather than blowing up the street and themselves in the process. Ed and Al might be exceptions since they've seen the Truth and have a greater inherent understanding of alchemy across the board.

    • @aliciacordero8399

      Mild correction, the gloves create a spark for him to manipulate. It's like Pyro in XMen The Last Stand, or the firebenders in that movie that doesn't exist - He needs an external source that he can manipulate.
      That's why he's "useless on rainy days" - his gloves won't spark when wet, so he can't create a flame to use his alchemy on.

    Mustang actually isn't using true flame alchemy.
    He is using his alchemy to gather oxygen in the air and then ignite it using his gloves, who are made from a special material, that sparks when he snaps his fingers.
    Also notice that most of the episode, he is missing Hawkeye, his better half, his conscience.
