    The trauma Eve has endured and the way her parents act towards her really explains why Eve stayed with Rex even after he cheated on her multiple times, and only broke up with him after catching him with Dupli-Kate. I've also heard people say that the start of their relationship was really great and probably one of the only good things happening to her, so it was also probably even harder for her to finally break things off with Rex.

      Minor spoilers for Rex backstory I don't know if the show is going to touch on either but he had it just as rough if not worse growing up. He absolutely means it when he comments on his awful childhood and isn't just exaggerating neglectful parents.
      Iirc He was "raised" in absolute poverty, barely any food, addicted parents, tormented siblings etc... Then his parents *sold* him to mad scientists who trained him to be their assassin and implanted him with tech in his wrists which is what lets him detonate objects.
      After his first mission was successful he escaped long enough to try and find his parents and found them and his siblings living a healthy, wholesome, warm life in a small house with food and love. All because he wasn't there.
      Following that he met Eve and lived secretly in her house for a long time before they joined Teen Team.

    After seeing the special, I really want Eve to show off her creativity and powers more in battle in the future. I know the comic readers will say that there's a reason for this, but I'm still kinda bummed that the extent of Eve's contributions in battle is just a wall in most cases, and when she's outside of it she shapes reality and defies it. I'm really hoping she gets to have more moments like in the special in future seasons.

    • @raphaelnouh1442
      @raphaelnouh1442 2 месяца назад +19

      Well in most cases she isn’t trying to kill.
      Also I get that it doesn’t look cool, but usually her energy blasts or whatever (her pink lasers) are sufficient to get the job done. Sure it’s not as cool as stuff she does here buts it’s just easy and practical and gets the job done. And in most cases, trying to come up with creative ways for her to use her powers just isn’t practical.
      The armor was a good idea though definitely probably should have used that more.

    • @Coolgame6812

      I think it's just because of budget constraints, so they have to pick and choose which fights/episodes get special treatment. (I do think it's weird how they chose to give Eve the best fight in the entire show so far, instead of any of the fights in season 2 with arguably more weight and stakes in the plot ) When this episode came out it got me so hyped for season 2, thinking that the show as a whole had stepped up it's animation because of season 1's success, but sadly that's not the case :(. On top of that, the producers announcing that they'll be working on two seasons at the same time from here on out doesn't give me hope that the animation will improve at all, so we'll be stuck with the formula of having 80% of a season being a PowerPoint presentation, with 20% being animation specifically withheld for when things get gory.

    • @niletaylor1103
      @niletaylor1103 2 месяца назад +3

      Its not as wild as you think. While I agree that its been around since before Goku, I've seen it way more in animated action shows since Goku did it in the Broly movie. I think its more accurate to say Goku made it more popular in todays animations. I grew up in the 90s watching anime and its almost night and day in terms of its occurrence since that movie. And I've watched a ton of anime! Also, tons of animators and artist are fans of anime regardless. So, the idea that they may have been inspired by the most popular action anime of all time isn't such a stretch. just my two cents.

    • @GerblerM
      @GerblerM 2 месяца назад +13

      @@niletaylor1103 I'm not saying it's impossible or anything, but as an animator, when we try to pay homage to things, we make it obvious.
      In this instance it seems like a HUGE stretch, specifically because there's nothing to connect the two. The posing, the camera, the theming, the setting; nothing is evocative of that scene in the Brolly movie for example. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
      Now is it possible that the person who key'd this shot had seen the Broly movie, and had that footwork in their mind to subconsciously pull from? Absolutely, that might even be likely. But to say this is a reference is silly in my professional opinion.

      She's not just an enabler, she feels the same way. Look at the bedroom scene, where she complains that Eve "isn't trying" and how she just wishes she was normal.
      And even if that wasn't a case, she's a grown woman. There's no excuse for her to not stick up her her daughter if she really felt her husband was in the wrong.

  • @Nimblescape
    @Nimblescape 2 месяца назад +3

    The dad definitely sucks, but I'm finally started to understand where it's coming from. From his perspective, his daughter DIED. He was already grieving when they brought her back in. He most likely views literally everything around Eve as a threat to her mortal safety. He has an awful way of expressing these feelings, but I get why he wants her to follow such a strict path. He's likely convinced that if she strays from the chosen path (just like whatever plan they might've had for the birth went out the window when the real baby started having fatal complications), she will die again. His words don't come from a mean place, they come from a paranoid place, which ends up coming out as mean.
    I think this finally clicked because I see my dad in him. I recognize that my dad loves me, and is terrified of me getting hurt, but his instinct is to express it through anger and nastiness. I honestly understand Eve so much, having been in her shoes (with a few key differences ofc)
    This is most especially evident in the hospital scene. Look at the way he looks at her, when he knows nothing can even come close to her. When he can just have her in his arms, he *viscerally loves* her. But that's the problem. She was never going to be a baby forever, and he is still stuck in the phase of wanting to shield them from literally everything. I find it honestly, very bittersweet, and an incredibly well done take on such a nuanced trauma that is a fatal birth.
    Also Kenny you're right! Wildfires are incredibly important, even relatively small ones! Forest fires only burn the surface of the dirt. So yes all the plants that had broken the surface would die in the fire, but this allows the root systems to systematically evolve to create stronger plants, ones that survive certain conditions better, ones with a higher nutrient profile, etc. And once those evolved roots grow plants, those plants are then pollinated, as well as spread around by the wind, water, animals who eat these plants then excrete the seeds elsewhere, which allows this evolved plant system to spread and mingle with other plants, perpetuating this crucial cycle for environmental stabilization.
    As for Eve's powers, it's not state specifically, but it's most likely not a case of her simple speeding up the whole process due to a few factors: In order to spread them around effectively, she would need to be able to control living tissue to some extent, because a part of the process is animals eating and spreading the seeds. Another factor is based on the rule of visual entertainment; "Show, don't tell". If it were just an environmental speed boost, the show would visually show case this in action (usually through slowmo), but when we get the deepest look at her powers (the scene where she turns to book to glass) we see that she is simply just changing the physical state of the atom. So essentially, if I'm correct in my previous statements in that she's simply skipping to the end of the process, what would happen, is wherever the fire burned, would evolve and grow, but it would be relatively isolated to that one area. It's spread would be dependent on the plants rate of growth, which would but FAR slower than the animals. So she would just delay the actual end goal of wildfires.

      thats not why forest fires are important. the ecology of north america, much like austrialia, is adapted to the idea that the land will immolate. prairies wouldnt exist without regular bush fires burning all the saplings down and keeping the land as grassy as possible, redwoods and sequoias require heat so their pinecones open; the whole point of forest fires is remove competition so that other species cannot move in those locations, thats why grasses dry up, sequoias are resistant to fire and drop pines, these leave so much kindling on the ground that just one spark will ignite everything clear out the underbrush, and thus recycle nitrogen back into the ground and leave it prime for new members of their species to move in.

The latter is happy his son has not inherited his powers, is happy with the life he has on this planet so he can get to live with his family for their entire lives and not have to carry out his duty... for now. A few things about this episode:
    - I think the circle around Immortal's neck is the dot of his costume's eye.
    - Also, I did agree that it was weird how negatively Samantha's friend reacted when she showed her her powers for the first time. It gave me "Puritan from the 1600s" vibes, like she thought Samantha was a witch or something. 😂
    - I feel like Eve's ability to tap into organic matter manipulation is like how Aang taps into the Avatar State early in the ATLA series. At that time, he could only do it when either he or someone he cared enough about was in severe, life-threatening danger, or if he was experiencing extreme trauma. I figure Eve's ability to tap into the power of organic matter manipulation works in a similar way and she can't simply access it under just normal circumstances.
    - About Eve's parents, I do agree that the dad is just horrible all around, but I think the mom is not completely terrible. I feel like the mom does genuinely care about and love Eve, but just doesn't always have the best way of showing it. As for the dad, he strikes me as one of those parents who has only conditional love for their child provided they are a certain way, in his case, being 'normal.' If Eve were completely 'normal' and lived a conventional life, he would express more affection for her and not see or treat her as some sort of 'freak,' but because she is different, he just can't bring himself to accept her for who she is. He just constantly tries to pressure her to be 'normal.'

    The title is also a brilliant wordplay to what it implies. Atom Eve really is "special", and by that i mean on the spectrum. Signs of autism are hinted all throughout the movie; her staring into space, abnormally genius, excelling in one or two fields but struggling with other fields, attending special school with special needs, people calling her weirdo or freak, etc.
    That's why her father don't want to acknowledge her talent, it shames him to even think he has a daughter like that. Her mother, while way less harsh and more accepting, actually dismisses her condition by saying maybe she's just too smart, because she still wishes her to be like any normal kid. And this family setup and child conditioning really do happen irl, sadly. It's still quite a touchy and taboo subject in our society.

    My boy Nolan gets a bad rap, his character growth is among the best in the Invincible comic, you have to understand Viltrumites are basically Saiyans but worse, Goku got brain damage when he came to earth so he doesn't count, Love compassion and all those fuzzy feelings just don't exist for them, which is why Nolan is having such a hard time with earth emotions, he almost sees them as a virus infecting him, and that's basically his whole thing.

But they do seem to genuinely love and care about Eve, they just are a bad combination of crappy parenting skills and fear/paranoia/confusion, which, whilst definitely nasty, is kind of understandable.
    We see Eve's powers in the context of her being a hero, in a world full of heroes, but if your kid was able to alter and rearrange the fabric of reality on a molecular level, it's understandable that you'd be freaked the hell out. What if she subconsciously gives them all lead poisoning? Or has a meltdown and turns the air into granite? What changes when all of a sudden, your child can (in theory) physically threaten you with no way of defending yourself, should they choose to?
    I'm not defending Eve's parents. They are clearly bad parents, the dad has a lot of other issues to boot, and there are a plethora of ways they could have handled raising Eve. But they do seem to be trying, at least to the best of their abilities.
