Sawayama is her debut ALBUM, but she has many singles and an EP called ‘Rina’ she has released over the past few years. Her EP is just as good and has the same production style, yet still distinct! Please react to them omg her entire discography has no skips

I hate how underrated that song is. Most youtubers I've watched reacting to the album either didn't talk about the message of that song or were like "ohh it's a song about monogamy! she want her lover only to herself!" and I'm like "noooo it's about the fetishization of Japanese culture!!"
I mean she literally says multiple times during the song "I guess this is just another song about Tokyo" how can people reach the conclusion that it isn't about Tokyo but about monogamy I can't-

“Chosen Family” is a phrase often used in the LGBTQ+ community since it’s an environment where people feel safe and gain support to be themselves, which obviously strengthens relations like a biological kinship. Rina is pansexual, and does well to represent the community. 🏳️🌈💛

I will stand up for all other 3 Snakeskin stans, and say Snakeskin is THE best song on the album, and no one else is willing to say it... what an underappreciated track (and F* TW) in the album.

Great intro and outro to the song, combine with so much tension being released in the super-satisfying instrumental drops. The Grammys not recognizing this is tragic because this is an amazing debut. Luckily BPI in the UK have changed rules to allow her to enter Mercury and Brits in UK. She has lived there 26 years but holds a Japanese passport. Saw yesterday she has a Tour in the USA this year so booked Denver in October (first night sold out fast, so second show now on), but really hope lots of US listeners catch on her work is super clever and refreshing.
She actually sampled Beethoven’s “Pathetique” sonata no. 8 in the beginning of Snakeskin. I just found this out today and thought it was super cool!
That’s why it sounded so familiar!! Wow, the genre bending is unreal.

This whole album has a lot of influence from Lady Gaga. I remember watching lady gagas "Marry the night video" which also has Beethoven's "Pathetique"
also has parts of final fantasy, the victory jingle and the prelude also at the end in the outro
my fav song by her is chosen family. i'm a nonbinary bisexual person and have been disowned by several members of my bio family so i've really had to make my own family. they are more loving and supportive than i could ever dream of and her song really captures that. i do cry to it at least once a week.
I believe Rina said in an interview or maybe in the genius notes that Paradisin is like the anime soundtrack to her life... which, i mean...how many genres can this woman get so right? xD

would you consider Utada Hikaru's English albums for a retrospective. She's what got a lot of gamers into Jpop/Kpop and I feel her influence in Sawayama is pretty clear. Snakeskin from Sawayama actually samples the fanfare from Final Fantasy 9.

I'm just living for any attention this album gets, because it is so well deserved. Bad Friend is absolutely my favorite track, but the other songs are so strong and impactful too... still salty she was snubbed at the Grammys.
Please do a video reacting to her EP “Rina” & all her solo singles like “Where U Are”, “Cherry”, & “Valentine”! Her EP is not as genre bending & doesn’t have as much rock elements but the production / mixing is better & the lyrics are a lot sharper. It has a more interesting concept & it’s more sonically cohesive. It’s very glitch pop & it’s more futuristic. A lot of her fans love her debut album but enjoy her EP more.

You need to listen to I Disagree by Poppy. The mix of genres she’s able to blend almost seamlessly. If you enjoyed XS on this project, I know you will enjoy the majority of the material on that project.

The best thing about rina for me is that YOU CAN NEVER GUESS HOW A SONG WILL DEVELOP, ever since her first lp is something that made me feel hooked (Stockholm syndrome is a great example, or hold the girl track among many others). The mix of genres in an album and even in the same track is unbelievable, kudos to her producer

I'm still new to Rina. I only discovered her in the duet with Lady Gaga on Free Woman. I was also shocked as hell to find out she's the female assassin in John Wick 4! I'm a certified fan now. (I have yet to hear her second album hold the girl.) Lastly, this was released at the end of 2019 but I can't tell if the deluxe edition with Lucid was released before or after Raiin on Me, which sounds similar considering they were both produced by Bloodpop.
