The lead singer on this Jefferson Starship song is Marty Balin, the king of smooth vocals. A Marty Balin solo song that provides another great example of his smooth singing is the song "Hearts" from 1980.

I couldn't remember the song or place his voice. It all makes sense now. That would be a good song for them to follow up with. Definite soft rock/yatch rock more than other songs they have reacted to.

Can’t listen to this song without crying. When my dying wife only had a month or so to live she said to me “I wish you and I could just runaway” a few months after she passed away the song came on the radio and I had to stop driving…

I agree with everyone, “Hearts” or “Miracles”, “Count on Me” or my favorite “With Your Love” should be next. lol you are married and finishing each others sentences and stealing each other’s thoughts- this will be happening more as time goes by 😂 This song just makes me feel happy in an easy breezy way. ❤

From what I can tell, the several-decades-long tradition of men, in particular, singing heartfelt love songs, really started to die out in the late '90s. From crooners and jazz singers, back in the 1930s, '40s, '50s, and on, through the rock, soul, and R & B singers and groups of the '60s, '70s, '80s, and early '90s, through all of those years, men sang, and often wrote, smooth, beautiful love songs. In the late '90s, something changed, and I started to hear less and less love songs from men. Now, in 2024, not many men *or women* sing real love songs anymore. There are some exceptions-- love songs can still be heard in country music, and from a few rockers and old-school-type R & B singers too. For the most part though, the love song is a dying art form, and that is really sad to me.

I’m 0:08 a 73 year old fan of rock since I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show on my 13th birthday. Growing up in Michigan with great Motown music and so many Detroit rockers, music has always been such a part of my life. Love you two, you’re the best of the reactors. Should try Bob Seger’s - We got tonight. Kenny Rodgers and Sheena Easton had a #1 country hit with it, but Bob’s is the best

When did the music change? That's easy: the digitalization of the recording and mixing processes was the beginning of the end. It put the balance of power in the record companies' hands, instead of in the artists' hands, because it meant that record companies now had the technology to make a non-musical person sound (technically) musical. This led to the record companies plugging artists that weren't real artists--artists who were created by the record company, and who lacked any real musical sense. It all began around 1983 or so, and the power shift was nearly complete by the 1990s.

That is SO TRUE as I hated that mechanical synthesizer banging voice enhanced drum machine "music" that was forced on the public in 1982-83 as I was graduating high school. I'm thankful now for indie companies such as Colemine and Daptone for bringing real music back after a long drought.

Marty Balin had such a beautiful voice!!! Great song, one of the best i heard in my 60 yrs listening to music
I saw music start going downhill, had less pizazz interest to me starting in esrly 90s. I was spoiled listening to such great music mid 50s to late 80s.

late 1989 when 2 Live Crew happened is considered the demarcation line when music went down quick. Music became more openly raunchy pushing the envelope. Suggestion-try going through the alphabet and pick an artist you haven't heard from any era beginning with A and so on until you get to Z.

Good music came in waves rock in the 60s/early 70s disco thru mid to late 70s.. 80s transition to pop rock (electronic intruced heavy) early transition to Grunge in early 90s,,Alt in late 90s... alt thru sort 2000s to about 2012, more electronic. then transition from alt rock.. I don't listen much to 2015 and beyon.
