@@simontomlinson6484 Actually it was the first half of the 70s, 75 is when they stopped doing interesting things, although there is always talk about them being an underrated band, I thought it doesn't make much sense for a band that was the most successful in the UK and in 2 years They went on to not even be able to enter the top 50 with their albums, they really shouldn't be that good if in 2 years all their fans had already stopped listening to them.

@@OnlyGoodMusic_ 1975 was their pinnacle. They had a film (Slade in Flame) but then made the catastrophic mistake of moving to the USA for crack the lucrative US market. By the time they came back....the music scene had completely changed and punk arrived. Old rockers were passe. It took a famous set at Reading in 1980 before they got their 2nd wind. As for two years, they had hits from 1970-1976. Do some research on just how many bands cite Slade as influencing them (Pistols, Nirvana, Kiss, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, The Clash...the list goes on).

Man, Lex gets it straight away cause 80s music was all about feel good. Brad wants to analyse how many vowels are in the whole song & then forget that it's just damn good. He's moving to it which shows it's getting to him but then wants to pull the whole mood down. He's reaction even bought my mood down & Lex's mood after a bright start. Lighten up man.

Great song, great band. They were part of the "Glam Rock" movement that came out of England in the late sixties, early seventies. And reemerged in the early eighties with this song. They've got a lot of other stuff you'd like too. Another from this album "My Oh My" and older stuff "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", yet thats the way they were spelled.

I think Slade and all the bands of that early-mid 1970s era were too soon for the USA: T.Rex, Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Bowie's glam rock period. Kiss made it huge in the USA of course, but they came a little after that first wave of UK Glam Rock.

Slade were huge in the early/mid-70s in the UK but had declined in popularity by the end of the decade. In 1980 Ozzy Osbourne pulled out of the Reading Festival and Slade were brought in as last minute replacements. Despite thinking it might be a farewell performance, the band stole the show and enjoyed a new wave of success in the early 80s. Run Runaway was part of that.

Wow, hadn't heard this in years. Brad, the song follows the style of a drinking song. A quick one or two line body and an even quicker chorus. It's not about anything, but the form and style is a traditional one in that it's fun to sing and anyone can add their own verse, then everyone sings the chorus.

Slade are a British rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966. They rose to prominence during the glam rock era in the early 1970s,[1] achieving 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart. The British Hit Singles & Albums names them the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to have three singles enter the charts at number one; all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. As of 2006, total UK sales stand at 6,520,171, and their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold in excess of one million copies.[2] According to the 1999 BBC documentary It's Slade, the band have sold over 50 million records worldwide.[3]

The original song was sung by Del Shannon in 1961. When I was 14 , I stole a boat from the local lake where I lived . And ran away with my girl friend at the time , With the cops and army looking for us. We headed up the lake then set the boat adrift ,and then went into the mountains . She got sick go we came back after a short time. The song RUNAWAY always takes me back to that time.

Slade were one of a few great Glam Rock band of the early to mid 70's. They had a successive number of No.1 hits during that time, and until '76 were unstoppable. This particular song was part of the revival in the early 80's, (1983-84), which also included, 'My Oh My.' Songs from the 70's include, 'Coz I Luv You', 'Take Me Bak 'Ome', 'Gudbye T' Jane', 'Look Wot You Dun.' The spellings of which were done deliberately to reflect their regional Brummie accent. 'Get Down And Get With It', being their first major hit.

This was their 80s comeback hit. they were never huge in the US, but had loads of huge hits in the UK (6 Number 1's, I think) in the 70s. Check out "Coz I Love You", "Gub'buy to Jane", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and "Cum on Feel the Noize" (which was a hit for Quiet Riot in the 80s)

Slade was such a fun and influential band! I had to mess with ya on this one. I sent the Stream Elements because we used to say if Sade is pronounced Shar-Day then Slade must be pronounced Slar-Day. lol It also refers coincidentally to Dennis Leary's bit about pronouncing Sade. I'm off to get a root canal and hopefully chillin' with Y'all later, Take care!

My mother was an English immigrant to Canada,
My first cousin Susan was the first of my English family to Visit us in Canada.
She brought presents from England for us.
    My present was Slade Alive.
I bought every Slade Album put out.
Often times having to import them into Canada paying a fortune for them.
Slade did a Canadian tour off the success of Good By T Jane. A single that charted in Canada.
Best live band I've ever seen.
I've seen hundreds of bands live.
FYI AC/DC considered Noddy Holder as a replacement for Bon Scott.
Another nugget Slade beats the Beatles for more number one hits in the U.K.
SLADE the best band too see live in a pub .
