One of the greatest rock and roll(and party)bands of ever. Did you know that after Bon Scott died the first person ACDC asked to replace him was Noddy Holder? He turned them down because he wanted to retire from music.

...and it's still making him money to this day. Noddy Holder claims in interviews that his family celebrate Christmas twice every year in his house: once at the end of December like everyone else, and once more in late April/early May when the PRS cheque arrives with his royalties from the continued sales of "Merry Christmas Everybody".
I remember going to Monsters of Rock in 1981 when Slade were on the bill. People were generally not that happy about it - all a bit too "glam" for us hardcore rock fans. At least, that's what we thought until they came on stage - these guys could rock with the best of them!

Beatles, Stones. led zeppelin, the Who, Black Shabbath among others. started getting into music more around the glam rock stage, but watching Tops of the pops heard a lot of stuff and just left school when punk started, great times, so my youth was around 77-to mid 80's, so is better memories for me that period then earlier.

It was Thursday nights. I used to watch it then go to the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes to see whatever big name band had been booked (Genesis, Dave Edmunds Rockpile, Mud, Showaddywaddy etc., etc., etc.)
Slade were the first band I really loved.I had just turned a teenager and become interested in music Loads of my mates at school loved them and they were massive in the U K in the seventies.I bought all their singles and albums and they were the first band I saw live at Newcastle City Hall.The place went mental when Noddy belted out the first lines of Get down get with it.They were so loud,my ears were ringing when I left the concert but the excitement of seeing my first live band was unreal.They really were fantastic live and I went on to see them another 3 times at the City Hall in the next few years.Great memories of a brilliant band.Also did a film .Slade in Flame where they played a fictional band as they rose to fame and one song, How does it feel ,from the soudtrack remains one of my favourite ever songs.

Please understand Quiet Riot had nothing to do with Slade having success in the 80s. They headlined Reading Festival after Ozzy fell ill, they were still selling albums late 70s into the 80s. Quiet Riot gained success using 2 of Slades songs and constantly whined about hating the songs in the first place. Total tossers.
Slade are absolutely legendary. I can recommend so many of their songs, but a few of my favorites, Still the Same, My Oh My, Seven year Bitch, Walking on Water, and "Gudbuy T Jane "
Slade were the biggest selling band in the UK in the 1970's but somehow were/are never quite fashionable. Maybe it was the deliberate mis-spellings, maybe the over the top embrace of glam fashion, maybe because they spoke with Wolverhampton accents. They toured extensively in the US but never broke the charts there. But, you know, they were just great, good time rock and rollers!
Remember the UK was a very class-divided society then (and most certainly still is). Slade is a band deriving from the poorer side of society. That's the first point you got to be aware of. The second one is that glam fashion was excentric and taking art to a popular level, and created a group identity that vanished when it got exploited by teenage bopper talent scouts. Watch Kenny (the band, not the Irish singer), Stephenson's Rocket, the Wombles and the Bay City Rollers and you know what I'm talking about. Gary Glitter, Suzi Quatro, Slade and (The) Sweet were taking glam to teen's level when Marc Bolan gradually faded from people's attention when his musical and textual style became too alienated. The third point is that the compositions of Slade didn't attract intellectuals. While the Beatles did manage to offer anyone a piece of tasteful delights, Slade remained a raw rock band, offering teenybop songs as well as bluesy material. Cockney Rebel was a band that tried to save the artful side of glam. However, it soon became Steve Harley's solo effort. Slade too wanted to get artful, and loved by Americans, and diverted from their teeny glam sound and fashion during 1974, so other glam artists took over Slade's top popularity position. Slade managed to get popular again in the 80s, which is quite astonishing.
Reminds me of family parties when I was a kid. I come from a very large family and everyone would get up and dance to this from little kids, teenagers, mums and dads to pensioners. Loved it. So much fun :D

Slade has some great music. Noddy Holder has a remarkable voice. Years later he did an acoustic version of this song for the ending credits of a TV show he co-starred.(the version is awesome).

C'est la Vie (and the Last Waltz) was a beautiful rock ballad from that album. I don't know how easy it is to find on RUclips though.

Welcome to the world of Glam Rock. I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1972 in Leeds UK when they were at their peak. Thin Lizzy & Suzi Quatro were their supporting acts at the time.
Slade were some of the first people in Britain to wear platform shoes, and made them popular. My favourite song was Coz I luv you.

Slade has some great music. Noddy Holder has a remarkable voice. Years later he did an acoustic version of this song for the ending credits of a TV show he co-starred.(the version is awesome).

The sound system was so loud you could feel the bass in the chest. Hence the title of the song ....

I was 11 when this came out .I heard it first on radio Luxembourg chart show, it jumped in straight at Number 1, I was knocked by it I still think its a great track .
