SLADE - Get Down And Get With It (1971 video clip)
    • SLADE - Get Down And G...
    - GET DOWN AND GET WITH IT
The song that really started it all, this LITTLE RICHARD set-closer became a showcase for Nod and a crowd-pleaser for the hordes of skinheads who'd turn up to SLADE concerts, get their boots on and put their hands in the air.
"Get Down And Get With It, it was a hard rock song" insists Dave, "and that's what we were about live."
Despite the Beeb's support for SLADE over the course of a dozen or so specially recorded sessions, it took a while for the daytime DJs to show their support for what turned out to be SLADE's breakthrough 45.
"But as soon as it hit Top 30 and we did Top Of The Pops", Nod recalls "they all started to get behind it."
Note : That old clip dating from a 70's UK short lived TV show '2G's and the pop people'. Slade appeared on the programme transmitted on the 17th June 1972 and were filmed performing two of their hit records, "Take Me Bak'Ome" and this their first top 20 hit.
The current upload here on You tube with the 192 TV logo emblazoned across the top has been redubbed to include the single release of the track (Recorded 5/5/71. Broadcast 13/5/71 on Stuart HENRY's Sounds of the Seventies).
SLADE, the Best of the Best ... Ever !
    Lyrics
Well alright everybody, let your hair down
Want to see everybody get up off their seat
Clap your hands stamp your feet, get down get with it
I said a-get down get with it and do the jerk
Come on baby, I'm gonna watch everybody work
I said a-come on baby, watch everybody do the dance
I said get down and get with it, it's been a long long time
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna watch everybody move around
I said a-come on baby, watch everybody make some time
To get down and get with it, it's alright
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, my my my my
Oh, baby, it's alright, oh, my my my my
Everybody raise both your hands in the air, everybody everywhere
I said a-clap your hands, everybody clap your hands
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, my my my my
Everybody clap your hands, oh, my my my my
Want to see everybody get your boots on, everybody everywhere
I said a-stamp your feet, come on and stamp your feet, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, my my my my
Ooh, everybody stamp your feet, oh, my my my my
Want to see everybody get up off your seat

Holy-snapping-duckspit YES!!! Slade - one of the best bands of the '70s (& early '80s), Noddy Holder - one of THE best rock voices EVER!!! The US really missed out by not glomming onto the great British band the way the UK, Australasia, Europe & Japan did (basically mostly everywhere but the US).

Exactly the same for me - I first bought this as a 45 single (still got it somewhere) and then bought the album because the cover art was so cool. I reckon I wore it out - that and the loungeroom carpet from playing my air guitar/tennis racquet! So many good songs over the years; 'Gudbye to Jane', 'Look Wot You Dun', Mama Weer All Crazee Now', 'Hear Me Callin', 'Cum on Feel the Noize', 'Take Me Bak 'Ome', 'Coz I Luv You', 'Darlin' Be Home Soon', 'Far Far Away' and 'Run Run Away'. What a party band!

Ahh, Slade. My first musical 'love'. This song is a cover of an old Little Richard hit, but was a regular part of their live set. There is a live version on Y/T recorded in front of a TV audience that is even more manic than this. The pianist was Jim Lea, the bassist. He is a multi instrumentalist who used to perform an electric violin solo live. They were incredibly successful in The UK particularly, in the early 70's. They had 6 number 1 singles, 3 of which entered the charts at Number 1 - something even The Beatles didn't do. I would put Jim Lea and Noddy Holder (vocals/rhythm guitar) up their as one of the greatest songwriting partnerships of all time. Coz I Luv U (my wife and I's wedding song), Tak Me Bak 'Ome, Cum On Feel The Noize, Mama, Weer All Crazee Now (both hits for Quiet Riot in the 80's), Skweez Me Pleez Me, How Does It Feel, Everyday and perennial festive hit Merry Xmas Everybody were all massive hits in the early 70's. They made a comeback in the early 80's following an appearance at The Reading Festival. They replaced Ozzy's band, because Randy Rhoads had problems with his visa, and Slade blew everyone off stage that day.

Fun story. Noddy the singer was looking for a top hat for his stage clothing and went to an outdoor market for a look.
He found one in one of the stalls, and the guy that sold it to him said "I'm going to be a rock star one day as well".
Noddy, laughing said "Don't talk sh*t Freddy*
A few years later, Freddy was indeed a rock star. Singing with a band called Queen!!

Omg 😅. Slade and Alice Cooper were my first introduction to loud rock, I was 12, which Led Zeppelin then followed. Hush was a particular fave out of the Aussie bands. I loved crazy weird singers and bands. Funnily enough I've been listening to Slade of late on youtube 🤗. Well done suggester👍👌

I was at Reading for the 1980 festival when Slade were added last minute to replace Ozzy, they played this and at the point where Noddy gives the instruction to stand on your seat he had over 40,000 rock fans laughing their heads off as we were standing in a field, one of the best bands that weekend and this live show resurrected their career, so much so that they were on the bill for 1981's Monsters of Rock at Donington another great performance.

Noddy Holder!!! The voice of early 70s pop/rock in the UK. There was something in the Tap water in the midlands in the late 60s - mid 70s. The amount of amazing Rock talent that came from the midlands, around Birmingham, was just insane.
Slade, ELO, The Move, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Wizzard, Robert Plant & John Bonham, Steve Winwood, Carl Palmer (ELP),. You could drive a car to all the birth places of these bands in about an hour.

The most successful band in the UK in the 1970s.
Out sold everyone else. They had six straight no.1s, and this wasn't one of them!
That feat wasn't repeated until the 1990s by Take That, but you had to sell a lot more records in the 1970s to get a no.1!
Truly one of the greatest rocking bands. I was at school when they were at the height of their fame. Everyone at school loved them.
Adults who saw them live at the time said they were one of the best live acts they'd seen.

Noddy was asked join AC/DC after Bon died but he turned it down. And he also had a disagreement With Freddie Mercury when Freddie was selling clothes in a market before he joined Queen.
