    I love when Alix said her influence comes from one pinnacle quality the Inquisitor holds: strength. You need it to survive and you need it to lead the Inquisition because people are looking to you with hope that your strength can lead them through. The Inquisitor is really starting to come to life! Yay!

    I do love how much attention is given to the female Inquisitor with this game. I mean, BioWare has always done a great job with creating awsome female and male protagonists, but never has the female protagonist been used that much to promote one of their games. The female qunari has almost become the male Shepard of DA:I.
    The only thing I don't like about the female Inquisitor is Alix. I do love her and her voice, but that's exactly the point. She will give me a very hard time choosing to play a male Inquisitor for my first playthrough! :P

    My first playthrough had Jon Currys voice, an my second had a female human embodied by Alix. Now not to underplay Jons performance but i must say, the kind of authoritative undertone Alix tried to creat mingled well within emotions throughout different scenes, whereas Jons voice often just switched between scenes. That little red line Alix created really lifted the experience for me, made me wanna play more females in other games 😁

  • @ODST_Parker
    @ODST_Parker 10 лет назад +7

    I'm all for gender equality, and no less than that in video games as well. Encouraging homosexual, bisexual, and transgender characters is where I personally draw the line, but I suppose they'd rather support it and get praise for it than not include it and be called sexist or insensitive. Leading the charge... give me a break. It's simply social pressure, nothing more.

    • @ODST_Parker
      @ODST_Parker 10 лет назад +2

      ***** I'm not sure about you, but I live in a country that basically hates anyone who speaks out against someone or some group that is A. black or B. homosexual, no matter what the reason is. Most people take the issue of equality way past the point of equality. It's clear which way the pressure is going.
      I could discuss why I don't support homosexuality, but I honestly don't care when it's a video game in question. They can develop the game however they want.

    • @ODST_Parker
      @ODST_Parker 10 лет назад +2

      ***** Thinking like that won't end well. Political and social ideals being antiquated is irrelevant, history tends to repeat itself often. Facts dictate what is relevant, and I have very important ones supporting my views. Unlike most people, I don't let emotion get in the way of logical reasoning. I take responsibility for everything I say, that was never in question.

    • @ODST_Parker
      @ODST_Parker 10 лет назад

      ***** Just as well, I see you're the kind of person who doesn't listen to reason just from that.

    • @ODST_Parker
      @ODST_Parker 10 лет назад +3

      ***** You appear to have thought that through for some time. I'll let you believe whatever you want, but let me tell you what I believe relating to the topic that I brought up, expanded by my response to Mr. Desmond.
      I do not think myself superior, as you say, to anyone in this world who has the capacity and will to think about an issue for more than five seconds and not let their emotions get in the way of making logical arguments or decisions. Anyone else is not worth my time spent trying to have an intelligent conversation. I am not trying to push my personal opinion onto anyone. If I'm not allowed to share my opinion, then I suppose this society is going to be worse than I expected.
      I am not a supporter of homosexuality. I'm not a supporter of anything that is centered around sex as nothing more than a pleasurable activity, which is exactly what this is.
      Sex has nothing to do with love, it is performed for the purpose of reproduction and in most cases now, pleasure. Since homosexual relations have no chance of resulting in a child being born to a couple, it is either mistaken as love or done simply for pleasure.
      As I said before, love could be described as simply as caring for someone greatly, if that concept can be described simply. I love my sister, I love my parents, but that will never involve any kind of sexuality. Two men can love each other as much as they please, but it does become unnatural when they start having sex with each other, a process that was clearly designed in humans to happen between a man and a woman. Anyone who says otherwise on that point is kidding themselves.
      I could argue this point all fucking day, but the fact that you simply resorted to insulting me in a childish way, trying to psychoanalyze me at best, tells me that you are nothing more than another misguided person who is trying to fit in with society by defending an issue that some may call insensitive. Since I don't give a damn about whether or not I offend someone by talking about it, I suppose I'm just in the wrong place. RUclips, the haven of opinions that get shunned for being against the popular one. I hope you someday realize you're mistake, you and apparently the majority of the US population, but I highly doubt that it will happen.

      @asson432 10 лет назад +1

      I admit, I wondered about threading the line between letting your sentiment fall on deaf ears or vainly believing that yelling would work.
      Well, as deep evening tends to leave a lot to desire in terms of sound decision making, vanity won over attrition, then meeting with conflict of styles which saw me both trying to shame you into self reflection and try to speak as one would to a person of some cognitive coherence.
      I've also to admit that the erosion on the desired effect which this clash brought on has not escaped me... A pity, though looking over it once more I realise I've never had great hopes of dialog, there. Perhaps it's as irrationality and vitriol tend to inspire.
      Still, the last sentiment is sincere. A loss to us all is that you should be a detriment to your siblings, and it pains me however many people are claimed by shoddy nurture.
      I hope that you'll reconsider and wise, and kinden up, just as I will finally decide how to handle you lot.
      Oh, and do deride me away, should you please, since we both know that we well might think the worst of one another in our mutual perception, and should it make you feel better it will cost me none.
      I can only advice on trying pot, and thinking better of your fellow people. It might cause you to rub shoulders with, good gods, the me type of abominable shits, but it also may make your nights better.

    (Brief disclaimer forewarning of a wall of text for only the sternest readers, and frequent use of archaics which I so dearly favor, should you loath which, the text will be a pain for you, dear sod.)
    A short comment on RUclips penned under some duress and with little enough inspiration is bound to the matter no more justice than Jack would to the Reapers, but if you could allow to try, (and should you happen read it, Dear-Whomever-Runs-The-Channel...Hi.) as I'd be remiss not to, then please, indulge me:
    Thank you BioWare, for though I may not speak to you directly, nor indeed to any of the people to whom we owe so much, the sentiment of...
    Overwhelming gratitude for inviting us, over all these years, to share in the boldest and most magnificently conceived stories and worlds; Filled with as much of kind and good, and sorely needed sentiment and wisdom... And hope, wit, and goodness; as it has been of characters in agency of those elements, whose impact on this World of ours and many of its denizens has likely eclipsed, in a myriad of ways, many of people begotten of flesh and bone.
    And indeed, for being not only clever, -brilliant- passionate, dedicated, magnificent, artistic, daring... (That's to say 'By Gods, but do I ever like your work, you!') great in all but all matters to do with your art, really... But also for caring.
    Since your earliest venture into story telling, you've not only re-invented, then defined, and remain the benchmark-bar-none for full, true, character driven narrative and story telling seldom paralleled in any medium; - and far above video games - (Which I oft feel not many people appreciate well enough, from the technical point of your ridiculous achievement) serving as perhaps the greatest argument for video games place amongst the arts.
    Aside from adding to our cultural heritage and enriching us thusly, Being great and careful, and intelligent storytellers, and humanists enough to build the most human, humane and engaging, deep and sincere relationships amongst characters... Ever, I dare say, in interactive art.
    That's, I think, what I'm most grateful for. For being so careful, inquisitive, and good with people. With their relationships of any sort. And by being model about it. No matter the time, or the convention, your work was Humane. In the best of sense.
    Your the artists I think of when considering pushing the envelope towards the direction it should always have headed when it comes to equality, in the true, not the straw-figure sense the reactionary relief rambling from the comments seems to wave about - woven to seat with their insecurities, or grievances.
    You always saw people for what they were, and could be, unencumbered by any lacking consensus and prism of our own civilization... Showing, perhaps, how things ought to be. True friendship, kindness, rivalrly, affection, wit, love... Amongst any and of all kind.
    In a society that still fails to see just how divisive and exclusive it remains, how entrenched certain pathologies... Well, if I were rambling before, I all but ran for the wilds now. You're a clever lot, savvy to my line of thought.
    Ya' grand, lovely, and so is your art; Yo do Humanity's Work, and you make it proud... And it's fantastic, appreciated... And given the muck that's pouring out of the comments here, still, alas, sorely needed.
    But you'll see us to sanity. From the Doctors (May they find fulfillment) trough all and voice actors, to people that supply you in coffee. Well done indeed.
    So! Whenever should the blood thirsty, obstinate, selfish, short-sighted or otherwise brutally and carelessly discontent peons of the people speaking trough this medium of Internet, howling in anger and anguish, raging at things they neither favor nor try and understand, my good studio... Well, I don't expect you to pull the velum scroll with handily reproduced text of this cry of mine from the wall to try and burrow trough a stellar amount of -drivel- text... But know, then and always, that they are, and for years beyond counting - let's hope - be people who wouldn't be the same without your work, and dedication, and passion.
    Who see, however dimly, the good things which you dare to try, and on behalf of which you speak, and that they appreciate it beyond words. Who couldn't be more proud to have artists like you do Humanity's work, and gods know it dearly needs to be done.
    This sentiment, however poorly, haphazardly and emotionally stitched together on a dim evening by all but nameless yet a commenter... I feel it needed to be made, at last.
    In closing, I could and may well shall, be sued for bias in my unapologetic in its enthusiasm and positive a sentiment. I'd like to briefly rebut any negative connotation which such accusation could bear:
    We're all permeated with bias. Indeed, I believe that for every decision we take, or a stand which we occupy, there exists underpinning, personal and firm reasoning and conviction, explaining our choices or believes.
    Having ... welcomed BioWare's work in my life long ago and ever since I was but a wee lad, I knew them to have 'brought me up' in a deeply personal way that no other medium did, for which I'm equally -and unspeakably- grateful and dedicated.
    Firmly entranched in one camp, should you like to get divisive, - certainly- but not to the detriment of my sentiment nor judgment, nor the point, I don't think.
    Oh, and if you took down the wall of text, I should like you to congratulate on possessing endurance and strength of will (Or perhaps acute lack of self-preservation instinct) which I can only feign. Have you thought about running for office, dear person?

    Since Mrs. Hale's awesome work with ME I've been inclined to go female in Bioware games, and I was not disappointed in the least when I did so in Inquisition. Maybe it's just cause I'm a guy and I'm inclined to listen more intently to a girl speak for extended periods, but she blew the male voice actors for the 'quis away, as far as I'm concerned. I don't think anyone needs to be represented in any way shape or form in a far away fantasy setting just because it's the world we live in. We play games to go to a world *not* in the world we live in. It's not to say it should be one way or the other - make the game however you want - it's just kind of silly to expect every game to start doing this when they should be focusing on the gameplay systems to make a good game in the first place, not the romances to cater to every existing sexual orientation.

    • @EmoBearRights
      @EmoBearRights 9 лет назад +1

      Megalo-dono why play in a sandpit when the toys in it don't represent some part of you being that is important to you like really? What's so wrong with inclusivity - if you don't want your fantasy world to be inclusive what does that say about you?! - IMO nothing good. Can't a game focus on both gameplay AND characters anyway and if it can't then I play DA games for the characters as long as I can beat the game then I don't really care about that If you feel differently play another game.

    I wish she hadn't decided to go for that "chesty" voice, as she describes it. *NOT* because it is bad per-say, she does a fantastic job, its just a lot of the other female protagonists in the past bioware games had that going as well, so I'd like something a bit more ?feminine? for a change. Again, just a personal preference, still a wonderful voice actor. :)

    Does anyone else find it even a little odd that there's been so much promotional material featuring the female lead but we haven't seen the male lead for Inquisition? They kind of did the same thing for Mass Effect and I don't really get it. Does anyone know who plays the male Inquisitor?

      We got 3 trailers with a Male Inquisitor.
      And the VA are Harry Haden-Paton and Jon Curry

    • @LoadingCheckpoint
      @LoadingCheckpoint 10 лет назад

      Mario Eberle Sorry, I misspoke: what I meant to say is that we haven't seen any promotional material for Inquisition where the actor for the male Inquisitor is shown discussing the game. I just find it strange that we haven't seen anything from Harry or Jon in the promo stuff.
      Mass Effect was kind of the same way, though I think that was more because Jennifer Hale was a more well-known actor in the business, while Mark Meer did only Bioware stuff, but it's still strange that neither of the male VAs have been shown discussing the game. Food for thought.

      I think it's because it's so unusual, it stands out more. In other words, you actually notice (which is a reflection of a bad thing - not of you but of the legacy established in media and gaming).
      Mass Effect, for example, had 1 trailer that featured FemShep. But you remember it being more common, which I think is another example of the phenomenon.

    I'm glad Bioware enjoys representing the many kind of people out there, but I don't believe it needs to be in everything. People that complain about so-and-so game not having so-and-so type of character need to realize that a game is a developers vision, not yours and that is fine. It is their game. Make your own game if you want to represent so-and-so type of person. I'm sick of it being pushed into everything.

    I'm straight, I'm male. Still played as her though. I feel like badass chicks are more badass than badass dudes. Every time I play a male protagonist, which I normally always do, they all feel the same to me. at least in games like this where you create the character yourself, so playing as a woman feels different to me.
    Only downside is that I can't romance anyone.

    I wish people could leave "Political Correctness" where it belongs..Out in real life! We play games to escape the ridiculus amounts of negativity, and constant barrage of you cant do, or say this & that.. If its there fine, but dam, you cant make a game anymore, without going down a checklist of things having to be implemented to not "offend" a certain race, gender, religion, sexual affilitation, etc.. Its gotten out of hand! People need to lighten up!!!

    • @EmoBearRights
      @EmoBearRights 9 лет назад +3

      RolfCJ then play a douche no one is stopping you! Why does it bother you that there are options there for people who want them - I really want to get a t-shirt with Dorian's face on it with "some RPG characters are gay - deal with it" underneath just for people like you.

      There are only 4 VAs, 2 for each gender of all races. So yes, you'll have to use either her voice or Sumalee's, who is doing the female American accented voice, for a female character of any race.

    • @tiffk5768

      Fr0st1989 You realize this game is fully voice acted, right? Like DA2, not like in Origins where it was just battle cries. Everything the Inquisitor says will be voice acted, and they will have the most lines in the entire game, guaranteed by virtue of being the player character. Do you know how much they have to pay lead voice actors on a project like this? 4 VAs is incredible.

  • @daya9340

    Not gonna lie, I didn't enjoyed her voice in Inquisition. It sounds unsure and weird, like it doesn't envoke the right emotion in certain situations. I always choose the other option with the raspy deep voice over hers.

    2:26 while I have nothing against being different, no, we do not need to represent anything from this universe in a game.

      +Muninn Huginn maybe not for you, but yes, we should. There is no reason for every game to be nothing but cis straight characters. The world isn't only cis and only straight, so why should a fictional world be? On top of that, people like to relate to characters; there are gay people so why shouldn't there be gay characters for them to relate to? seriously...

      Gah, I wrote a really long post and then it disappeared, but I'll recap quick:
      They forced neofeminism into this game, falling flat on their faces, 'cause, to me, most characters were cheap whores if you only kept saying stupid shit to them they'd fuck you. Origins did it right. They had personalities and real repercussions if you crossed them. Isn't it funny? It's almost like they fuck you 'cause you're entitled as the inquisitor. Full circle galore.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more sexytime... but do it the right way.

    • @mollycarson4081
      @mollycarson4081 9 лет назад +8

      Muninn Huginn i wasn't referring solely to romances, just characters in general. Also, neofeminism has nothing to do with this?

    • @rasmuserlandsson2204
      @rasmuserlandsson2204 9 лет назад

      Molly Carson
      Yes, it does. It's heavily influenced by it and is sacrificing good, quality personalities in order to cram all the sexualities and super "diverse" cast. You heard her in the video.
      "There is no reason for every game to be nothing but cis straight characters."
      Are you listening to yourself? Would you ever had said anything like that 5 years ago? Did you feel that Dragon Age at any point suffered of discrimation?
      I didn't. The point is moot and take fights where fights are needed.
