    Plenty of parts in Australia. But the 1998 model is still made in india . I have 8 pajeros , 4d56t bolts straight in replacement for 4g54. One thing i found the check valve behind the lhs rear wheel cover blicks with mud and suction caves in the fuel tank, symptoms you run iud if fuel yet you have half tank on the guage. What you have in this spec in Australia is a GLS. I modify 92 3ltr s2 heads by welding 10mm at the back of the head then machine. This allows easy fitment to a 6g74 block and allows simple electric s . The fuel pressure regulator is made adjustable and increase the presure by about 2psi to compensate for increased capacity. Another interesting fact the piston bore size is the same from 265 hemi 6,318, 4d56t, 6g72 ,6g74.and 4g54, so lots of piston choises

      We found out shortly after this video when we were driving it around that it also has a big head gasket leak and leaks oil through the spark plug tube seals so we'll be refreshing the top end of the motor soon.

    Whats the purpose of the two valves on top?

    • @luso_overland
      @luso_overland  4 месяца назад +1

      Not 100% sure. I think they let vapor out to the charcoal canister.

    Also, would a failure in the blue valve cause fuel tank pressurization?

      @luso_overland  Год назад

      Yes, same vehicle. There are just small differences like trim, engine options, etc. offered from market to market.

      Hi, thanks for watching. It's probably the valve stem seals.

    Great job guys. A question, do you guys know where I can find a 1998 Montero drivers seat and seat belt? Where I live, it’s not easy to find. Also I can’t go around looking. I am a disables Army vet. Thanks !

    • @luso_overland
      @luso_overland  Год назад +1

      Hi, used ones from a fellow enthusiast or junk yard are the only real options and shipping for an entire seat is tough, would have to go by freight likely. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Facebook Group "Mitsubishi Montero USA Parts Exchange" - that's the best place for finding used parts.

    My 1997 LS has pretty audible whistle at idle coming from the fuel tank/pump area. Is that a symptom of faulty operation or common among older Monteros? I’ve never gotten firm answer in this and wonder if it’s possibly a pressure issue?

    • @luso_overland
      @luso_overland  Год назад +2

      Interesting, never heard of that one before. Maybe a pump with a much higher psi/flow rate was installed in there Oor maybe it's an air/vacuum leak coming out of a gasket. Remove the access panel from under the cargo mat, then take a hose and with the car running, hold the hose up to your ear and then put the other end on the top of the fuel pump, and other various parts of the tank, etc. lay under it doing the same thing until you pinpoint the exact place causing that sound since it will sound much louder in your ear when using a tube/hose directly to it.

      No, unfortunately not. But any similar check valve should work.

    Another few tips always change the hydraulic tentioners. But also just as important do the water pump and change all steel coolant pipes due to age they are now all corodeing even the 2000-2012 ones are doing it . But pajeros are great like an old glove or pair of boots just get i and drive unlike the modern autistic cars if recent times.
