- Flying a floatplane in the Alaska backcountry is a one of a kind adventure. We traveled to the tiny town of Moose Pass, on the Kenai peninsula, to get our seaplane rating and explore the wild backcountry of Alaska.
The adventure begins by flying into Anchorage, Alaska and visiting Lake Hood, the world's largest seaplane airport. After that, we travel down the Seward Highway, stopping at the Alyeska ski resort along the way to watch paragliders. We train for our seaplane rating in the small town of Moose Pass at Alaska Float Ratings, run by Vern Kingsford. We train on 150 horsepower Piper Super Cub floatplanes. After a few days of breathtaking flying in the Alaska backcountry, we earn our seaplane rating and become seaplane pilots.
After that we explore the Kenai peninsula. There we find glaciers, rivers and spectacular ocean vistas.
If you are a pilot looking for a new rating and new adventure, I highly recommend you look up Alaska Float Ratings in Moose Pass. It's a memory that will last a lifetime.
This was filmed by both Bryan Keith and Shane McLafferty using Sony A7S mirrorless DSLR, DJI phantom drone and GoPro cameras.
Man it is my dreame. I love it. Sorry my inglish. I am from Russia.i love Alaska. It is a true.
Thanks for the video! Alaska is very beautiful! Great shooting! Greetings from Russia from the glider pilot
Glad you liked it and nice to hear from you!
KILLER!!! Relive it every time I watch :) Let's do it again!
I'm down.
Beautiful images.!!
The beauty of Alaska is unmatched
Thanks for sharing. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can't beat Alaska Scenery. Used to two gliders in a super cub. Never tried the float plane type. It's on my bucket list.
Do it Preston! It's a great experience.
My son and I love float planes. We got to fly with Kenmore Air in Seattle in 2018 to do a seaplane check out in a Cub on floats. Such a great aircraft for learning! Alaska is on our bucket list for sure. Great video!
Fly safe and fly often!
Yeah flying in Alaska in the Super Cub was pretty magical. I need to get back up there.
Beautiful video! Great job!
Awesome!!!! More Please.
Great video. I had a SEL license as a young man (many decades ago) and have ridden in float planes in Alaska and Arkansas. Float planes put a silly grin on my face even yet and I am not piloting. I have offered my grandkids a gift of flying lessons but they show no interest. I skipped meals to pay for my own lessons. Worth it!
thx James! I grew up in Arkansas. Never knew there was much float flying there.
Terrific video!!!! I miss Alaska, and your video lowered my blood pressure by about twenty points, I’m sure! So peaceful!!!
Thx John. Lowering BP is important! I usually have to take a pill to do that.
Really Amazing, previously I had only played Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Just learning to fly floats myself and I really enjoyed this. Stupid grin time again this coming weekend! Thanks, this was great.
That's awesome. i'd love to get back in a float plane again. Have fun and don't forget to raise the water rudders! haha
This video touched something deep in my soul. Thank you for sharing!
These are my favorite kinds of comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@Wolficorntv I am finishing my private right now, then getting my IFR, will be moving up to AK this spring. Can't wait to start living that dream!
WOW, BEAUTIFUL. ❤
THANK YOU.
Glad you liked the video Lisa!

Amazing adventure Bryan, Congrats! I'm pretty sure getting that certification in Alaska is gonna be a must-do in my future! Thanks for sharing!
Go for it Jimmy. Highly recommend. I wanna go back for more.
This is awesome man.

I love your videos
Epic cinematography skills. Well done.

Thanks man! Glad your enjoying my videos. I have several cool projects planned.
Excellent!
thx!!
I’m going there to get my float ratings. Awesome
You’re gonna love it. I actually just spoke with Vern. He’s a great guy.
Awesome video. One of the CFIs I flew with hundreds of hours ago back when I first bought my Cardinal used to go up to Alaska every summer and float plane instruct, the come back to NH for the winter. It always struck me as an awesome plan to go up there for a week and get a single engine sea rating for fun one year in lieu of a flight review.
Exactly...it counts as a BFR. Definitely worth doing. I flew a Cardinal for 8 years before I bought my Tiger.
Wolficorn nice! Did you have an RG or FG? The Cardinal is a nice airplane. I believe there’s a Tiger neighbor in my T hangar building but I haven’t had a chance to introduce myself yet. Both seem like types where you struggle a bit to find an experienced mechanic, I enjoyed your video about visiting yours. I have posted some videos of my Cardinal, a 1977 RG.
Found your channel through comment you left on Aviation 101's Mooney Cockpit tour. Former owner of 79 Tiger 2332T, which I understand wound up in CA. If you ever see it at an AYA/ Grumman meet/event, pass along my best to whomever has it now. Great., great airplane. Looking forward to watching some of your Tiger features and hope you love it half as much as I did.
Glad you found me Scott. A quick search shows your old Tiger is living in Texas these days: flightaware.com/live/flight/N2332T
@@Wolficorntv Ironic - I bought the airplane not far from there, at BMQ outside Austin, TX in 1999 while stationed at FT Hood.
Wow
AWESOME!!!!! I gave you 101 thumbs up.
ha..thx Michael!
Nice video - it would be a dream come true doing what you did !
Outstanding! Best regards from Austria!
Thx Bernie. It really was an awesome time. Is there any float flying in Austria?
Floatplane flying is not common in Austria but there are some. Very few eg the Flying Bull’s Cessna Caravan.
Wow great stuff man! I am actually going to Alaska next week but I’m going to Talkeetna to get my Seaplane Rating w Alaska Floats & Skis.
Awesome man. Have a great time! Talkeetna is on my list for next time :)
Great video. The end came too soon, I was hoping it was a trailer for a series you're about to start
Thx for the feedback Jason. I wish I could do a series about Alaska. Honestly I just didn't have enough footage. I shot this before I was making YT videos.
Beautiful video.
Floats would look great on your AG-5B :-)
haha...that would be an interesting sight.
❤️👍
Got my rating out of MYF couple of months ago at HII. You'll have to let me in on the good spots!
Is HII the shipyard in SD bay? Didn't realize you could get a seaplane rating in SoCal. Doesn't seem like there are too many places to land.
@@Wolficorntv We went up to Lake Havasu for a night.
I want some more
You and me both!!! Thx for watching.
Bryan, before I saw your video, I booked a week for instruction (and checkride) out in Moose pass and was curious about your thoughts on the checkride process itself? Anything noteworthy compared to PPL/IFR checkrides?
It’s was a very relaxed checkride…dare I say fun?
@@Wolficorntv Awesome, can't wait!
@@jadeng1147 Moose Pass is such a great place to get your seaplane rating. So many lakes in close proximity, all with different characteristics. Not to mention that it’s drop dead beautiful there. Have fun!
@@Wolficorntv I'll be sure to bring a camera, thank you!
Great video as always. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Glad you liked it Russ! It was a nice trip.
I Have a dream yes about Alaska! But unfortunately I've gone to wrong school and not become a pilot 😌
- btw. First, hope so!
Flying or not, visiting Alaska was a great trip!
Too isolated for me! Scary place to have engine trouble
it's definitely remote!
Bro a sea plane rating ,cmon how insane was it landing on the water & your dad is a pilot too I mean what's next wolfi are you batman too bro lol
I have secrets that may one day be revealed, LOL
@@Wolficorntv 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ...dope ass video alotta cinematics
After a few days of thoroughly pissing off the locals. The locals could finally get back to fishing
