    I always told my dad, Terry, that’s the one I wish he’d restore. I’m glad it went to someone who did just that. It looks a lot better not sitting in our barn.

    Thank you. My Dad had a few. We 3 kids got out to push it up the Hills of Wisconsin. Part of our habitat for 2 weeks. Wish we never came home. The VW Camper did it's best to fulfill that dream. His 2nd one was mint. Stolen in 1 week. He gave up after that. He never complained or talked about it. I think his heart was broken. He loved those......VW Vans

    I owned a 63 with a few differences….I took an epic trip appx 13k miles all around western USA 1969….with 2 buddies…painted it in garage kind British racing green bottom part.
    Had a friends dad build a water tank that fit perfect on roof rack for outside showers.Rebuilt engine 1500cc and header exhaust.Also put bumper rack on back for hodaka 90 trailbike…Made checking oil a pain which ultimately led to a rod bearing knock in Kansas as we were coming home.rebuilt engine on street in front of my friends uncles house….HA….
    Would love to find it if it survived somehow but I sure it had buckets in front instead of bench.But was a stock westphalia…enough said….thanks for posting video!!

    Thanks so much for your video. It brought back many memories for me. In Portland, Or. I got a '63 so34 in 1970. Have great memories of the adventures it took me on. Down to Mexico, all over the U.S. and into Canada. Also, went through a couple engines, too. One time at college, in the parking lot I had 13 people in it all smoking pot. Smoke billowed out when we opened the doors. It got parked on a farm in the early 80's and was eventually sold. I've had 3 other vw campers since them and am still driving one now days. Good luck on completing your restoration.

    Absolutely love your van. I so wish I had bought one back in the 70s.....though I did have a Ford Van converted......but nothing like the VW. I guess I could find one now and just set it outside my sons house on his farm. I could sleep, cook, draw, crochet, write....etc.......like I do now.....and then just step into his house for the bathroom and shower. I'm used to living in a confined space.....so it wouldn't bother me at all to have just that size van. Anyway.....I'm rambling here...sorry. Thank you for sharing your van in here......and maybe I will get fired up enough to find one soon. You said you got yours in Tenn. I live in Ky.......is it a place that has lots of vans like that for sale? Or just a private owner?

    For 1962, they use larger, flatter Amber colored front turn signals; formerly "bullet" shaped clear front signals. It was 2 years ahead of the VW Beetle which uses that feature that began in 1964.

    • @Nichemotors
      @Nichemotors  4 года назад +1

      Yep, the bullet front turn signals ended in 61’ and in 62’-67’ they got “fried egg” front turn signals 👍🏼

      Unfortunately the first owner passed away in 90’s, however since posting this video a very kind person reached out to me and sent me the correct Chandelier they had been holding on to for 50-years! They’re bud was totaled in the early 70’s but he saved the Chandelier. Check out our Instagram for the full story

    What is that box on the headliner? Fresh air vent?

    • @Nichemotors
      @Nichemotors  4 года назад

      Yes, the overhang above the windshields on the outside of the bus allows fresh air into that box and there is a switch to direct air sideways to the front passengers or backwards to rear passengers. This was a standard feature starting in 1955 after the Barndoor bus production ended.

    • @rozinant1237
      @rozinant1237 2 года назад

      Safari’s are the flip up front windshield glass. This allows for better cooling in hot climes. Many buses shipped to South Africa had them installed from the factory. Therefore they have the nickname “safari’s”. They can be added to any split window van from aftermarket suppliers.
