Just watched this game again after UConn got their 6th title. Kellogg with the genius point that UConn needed to play with urgency and full pedal to the metal on offense. People called the '99 tournament the "Duke Invitational" but UConn very quietly had almost as good a season as Duke. They only lost 1 game all year when healthy, and that was by only 2 points. Their only other loss was to Cuse when Hamilton and Voskuil were both out; and they hammered the Orange the next 2 meetings with a full lineup. I played against Ricky Moore and William Avery in high school and man, that team was stacked!! Nice to see this game and bring back those memories. BHS c/o 94
The last two possessions for Duke can be traced back to a year ago from the Regional Final against Kentucky, the same game in which Duke was up by 20 and lost. William Avery, Duke's PG and best ball handler, who was a freshman at the time, decided to take a horrible shot after bringing up the ball for the final possession. Ignoring the better options for 3pt shooting (i.e. Langdon, McLeod, Wojo, or even Carawell). Fast forward to the championship game, coach K took the ball out of Avery's hands and gave it to Langdon to bring up the floor and face a defensive specialist in Ricky Moore (Not his strong suit), because he didn't trust Avery to pass it to the right option and have a repeat of the year before. Goes to show how one shot can alter decisions and destroy trust on a team.

This game is absolutely phenomenal. Even as a duke fan I still watch the last few minutes of this game all the time. The intensity the crowd involvement the players on both teams it's just as good as u will ever see at this level. And sadly it will never be seen again. I think about the duke team who just made it to the final 4 with banchero and company and the uconn team who just dominated their opponents to win the title and if they played against these 2 teams how badly they would get destroyed. This matchup here though is nothing like UNLV-Dook 1991. That Yukon team was the real deal and I felt that in a best of 10 it would be a split. It was really very evenly matched. Thats my point - Dook got too much press (admittedly they were a great team though- had they won they may have been considered up there with the great ucla teams, 1976 indiana, 82 UNC) and Yukon did not get enough credit.
This game was the reason Shane Battier would flat out not let that Duke team lose in 2001!
There should have been a second added to the clock after that travel call
I will always remember Shane Battier and his Shar-Pei head.
When I go into the way back machine like this and see video of standard def, I think to myself, how the hell did I watch that sh!t?
Sent a micro demo to uconn radio station for 99 team. The 2000 season I sent a mastered tape. Love my huskies!!
Freemans leaping just like bob beamon
Khalid el Amin's a basketball demon
Jake the snake Voskul blocking em clean
Cant remember rest but it was professional
I don't think UConn lost to Duke from this point on. Coach K had owned Calhoun before this game. I bet somewhere El-Amin is eating a double quarter pounder
Yeah but in 1990 dook needed a miracle to beat uconn in the elite 8. It's not as if K was beating Calhoun by 20 every time.
'" RIP Hamilton best Uconn player ever"
willy clement Ray Allen in the top 3
Ben "Madison Square" Gordon
Emeka Okafor 💪
Never heard of ray Allen 🤔
@@cv1368 He never won shit !
The refs called way too many travels in this game. Most of them didn't even look like a travel.
Not by todays standards, but they are\were
I’m a UK fan so I absolutely hate the sh;t outta both these teams but I gotta respect what they’ve done over the last 20 years!! Unbelievable basketball programs!
How many times did they mention Moore and Avery growing up on the same block and being two years apart 😂
McDonald's All American Class of 1995?
GOAT
As much as referees cheat for Duke I can't believe they ever lost a game.
Top notch, back when they called traveling 😂😂
Langdon was a great collegiate player, but man he gagged that finish.
Duke had no damm business losing this game....but im glad they did lol
The beginning of the NEW STANDARD in COLLEGE 🏀!!
Stop drop settle down opened up shop!!!!
El-Amin was nasty back in the day!
#42 the very best PG
1:26:02 Iconic!
I’m still confused as to why this was an upset... UConn was the best team all season and had it not been for the injury to Rip they probably go undefeated.
How did the worst stadium in Major League Baseball host the ncaa national championship game?
Money talks
This game is absolutely phenomenal. Even as a duke fan I still watch the last few minutes of this game all the time. The intensity the crowd involvement the players on both teams it's just as good as u will ever see at this level. And sadly it will never be seen again. I think about the duke team who just made it to the final 4 with banchero and company and the uconn team who just dominated their opponents to win the title and if they played against these 2 teams how badly they would get destroyed. These are 2 all time teams right here in my opinion
Ricky Moore..Class of 95' boys? I'd put up against ANY High School Class b4 or since!
I wonder what Khalid El Amin is up too now.
DUKE was a more stacked team....I don't know how the huskies managed to win in this matchup on the National SPOTLIGHT.
You can't expect players then to stay without paying 'em
Nobody gave UConn a shot... NOBODY
can you please upload 2000 ncaa Championship MSU vs Florida
Connecticut took down the blue Devils of Duke to win the Championship.
kamal and berry
EL AMIN !!
I HATE Duke Puke!
Man? 1998-2003? Duke had some BEST Starting5's in College Basketball HISTORY!

MAn..u KNOW!!!! This L had to of messed up CoachK, Duke's players&fans so much in tha head/MENTALLY!!!.
A. Its THE hardest sport(pro or college) to make the Championship Game in.
Let ALONE win a Championship in! ABSOLUTELY ZERO ARGUMENTS. 100% F A C Ts...🤐
B. Duke Fans&CoachK KNOWING this?^^^(how hard it is just making a FF!!!)
Taking a 3rd CONSECUTIVE loss in a National Title Game in last 6Seasons? Had to of been hard. Especially when Duke's HATED rival was still sitting on 1 more National Title than Duke. At that time.
CoachK probably dreaming of "what ifs?".
El-Amin 4:20
Yeah he likes herb, who doesn't. ✌️&♥️
F Duke!
Rock Chalk!
You can hear!. The bias..co.ing from packer..just ooxing for duke..
Guys actually lift weights back then lol glad the huskies beat PUKE lol
I hate the fact that this was 20 years ago, because some of these men are really fine. Sadly they are all above 30 years old now😓
crazy coack k didnt take a timout with 12 sec left i was shocked
UConn were the more talented team. Duke had no answer for Richard “Rip” Hamilton…
