This opened my eyes. My townhouse was built in 1912 and has double brick between the units. I (wrongly) assumed that current code was much better at fire and noise separation. That construction may have met minimum code but it sure looked shoddy.
The most important issue here is WHY ARE DEVELOPERS ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH SUB STANDARD WORK. You don't just buy the place. You have to factor the cost of soundproofing. Building regulations in the UK change every year. It's ridiculous.
Mike usually works as a general contractor, but usually bring in professionals/experts at what they do. Mike's been working for a number of years, and he's not a jack of all trades/master of none.
I've been looking into this solution. I talked to lots of different people and my reading is the foam is an excellent thermal insulation but not so good as an audio insulator. The reason being is that the foam expands and touches both sides of the wall and thus carrys sound. Dense material with airgaps is a more effective audio insulator. Have any youtubers out there had the foam insulation on retro fitted to a weatherboard home? How was the sound insulation?
In desperate need of some feedback. What kinda of tools make it easier to cut through this type of drywall cuz that metal sheet makes it hard as hell to cut the lights out. And we're working with the 545 type which is the thickest there is!!!!!
@gargamel55 Not sure if Holmes on Homes is still broadcast in Canada (where he's from), because they cancelled his show on Discovery (much to my disappointment) about 2 years when one of the 8000 'Discovery' channels became "Planet Green" (which is a 24hr joke). But what he did is basically go around and fix the houses of people that had been screwed, robbed, abandoned, etc etc by a contractor or construction company. worst of the worst cases. 99.99% of the time, for free (paid by advertisers
Oh the background music when they are talking. It's "americanized" already. Canadian version was so much more simpler and easy on you. Hope they never do this to 'Restaurant Makeover'.
Holmes on Homes gets us more spray foam referrals than anybody. A testimate to how great the product is! Check out my Spray Foam Facts video is you get a chance!
@pmcool99 lets send holmes a email to verify this guy , this dude is sketchy since everyone's trusting holmes and he "claim's" hes part of it , people gotta be skeptical with these people!!!!!
I forgot how great this show is! Thanks for posting; I've got to start watching again.
Mike Holmes is a legendary general contractor, that dude is gold!!!
Thanks Mike...We miss your show. Hope new episodes come out soon.

We remodel in portland oregon. We love Holmes building standards as they mirror our own standards. It's never cheaper to do it cheaper !

Where the hell do you buy quiet rock. I got this neighbor who wont shut the hell up.

@LogicNYC Actually, the show takes place in Canada....
Holmes rocks! I bet those people are so happy. I will look for Quiet Rock in the future.

So this construction was done only one side of the wall? whereas the noisy neighbor's wall had no work done right?
i love his show..
It technically was done to both. But the one with the quiet rock was the best drywall. The other side probably had half inch drywall, ordinary.

What quietrock is being used here?
is that really how they do an STC measurment in Canda. A type 2 meter held an inch from the test partition and a radio playing rock music?
He also is in Canada and I'm on Long Island. I'd prefer if he brought all his people too and that would be fairly difficult to do.

Do they fix up peoples houses for free ?
I am certain that rude neighbor did not contribute a penny to isolating her sound from those nice neighbors.

thats crazy i want to do that!
If I could, I'd have Holmes build me a house.

You're already on the internet. Just look him up and you'll see how he's qualified.
YO i know that girl Lorrane i used to work with her!
@mikeylee2001 You made me laugh on that note...lol. I'm hip.
Anybody know how much a job like this runs? I have the pleasure of hearing the explosion of a low-flow toilet over my bedroom.
I guess we can all get something from this video.
@mikeylee2001 ......Lowes
Mike Holmes should come and renovate my house because we can afford renovations wich my house require.
i would of said joiner after watching many episodes.
Great video! Where do you buy that sound board. I got a retarded kid living next to me and he makes bird noises all day long.
