- Edith and Archie (Jean Stapleton and Carroll O'Connor) are very excited to host Thanksgiving at their house, especially since Mike and Gloria (Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers) are back from California!
From Season 1, Episode 10 'Thanksgiving Reunion: Part 1': Mike and Gloria (don't forget little Joey) come back to New York to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Bunkers. But Mike's got some devastating secrets to hide: He's been fired from his professor's job in Santa Barbara for participating in a nude protest of a nuclear power plant. This has put a further strain on the Stivics' already faltering marriage.

About Archie Bunker's Place: Archie and his partner, Murray buy the neighborhood bar and rechristen it “Archie's Place.” The Bunkers adopt their niece, Stephanie, but during the show's second season, Edith dies, leaving Archie to raise Stephanie, and, soon, another niece, with the help of a black housekeeper. Most of the action is set at the restaurant, with a cast of new characters including Anne Meara as the cook and Jason Wingreen as the bartender.

When Mike takes his daughter and moves far away for a year, welcoming him back take on a tune of it's own.
I watched this episode for Thanksgiving Day this year. I smiled when I saw Archie hugged Mike. He may not have showed it, but I think deep down and on very rare occasions, he cared for Mike.
And vice versa. Mike even said that he loved Archie in their final episode.
I think he did too.
It was great for just one time to see Arch happy to see Mike
“Meathead!”
And at the end of the episode, giving him real fatherly advice and telling him, if you need help, I'm here.

They may have drove each other crazy and disagreed on everything but at the end of the day they were family. If anything all their bickering and driving each other up the wall made them much more like Father and Son than father in law and son in law lol.
I never knew that this episode existed, what a privilege it was to come across this. A true GREAT show.

@@souadbouzid7808 That's what I had thought too, but I had binge watched a bunch of episodes recently. And there are some episodes of Archie Bunker's Place where Edith is still alive and we see her. I can't remember which season/episode it is when she's passed away.

Such a GREAT show! Yeah, Everyone had their foibles, especially Archie, but down deep they were loveable human beings that we all could relate to. So much so that even after all these years, my eyes teared up at this reunion! I have to keep telling myself its only acting. RIP Carrol O'Connor and Jean Stapleton!

I admit, I preferred the pre-Stephanie series, but seeing Mike, Gloria, and Joey was great here, plus it was neat to see Joey a little older and...Clearly already wiser. :P
I sure miss the shows of this era and this was my favorite.. I don't even bother to turn the TV on anymore, it's the least used thing in my house.

I don't rememeber this episode. Then again, I stopped watching the show Regularly when Mike and Gloria left and it became Archie Bunker's Place. I think I remember one episode where Gloria said Mike left her and their son due to a Mid-Lfe Crisis.
That was the pilot for the spinoff series "Gloria."

I always amazed they only have 2 bedrooms and one bath in the huge upstairs and the bedrooms are tiny.
It's actually more common then you think,in bigger cities. I grew up in Cicero IL, our house looked huge on the outside but when you got inside,it was only 2 bedrooms.
@@superstarreviews9937 But the downstairs was so large. Also, whatever happened to the attic that Cousin Oscar slept (and died) in? After that, the only other place to sleep besides the two bedrooms was the living room sofa.
I was recently at a friend's house my buddy and his GF are renting and it only had 1 bathroom upstairs. Kind of a hassle. It's an old house in a University town and was just built that way for some reason.
And bedrooms were usually small in that area and time. The concept being they were only to sleep in. You only went up there at bedtime. No need for more than the space for a bed and nightstand. Even if you read in bed before dozing off, you brought the one book up with you rather than having a bookshelf in the bedroom.

One thing I liked was that Meathead, he could have simply showed up. Instead he goes the extra mile, doing a great Groucho Marx impression, at least hoping it would get a cheap laugh out of Archie. Since Archie probably grew up around the time the Marx Brothers were big.

All in the Family and Archie Bunker’s Place were long before my time-could anyone explain the gag that Mike does at the door? He does it a few times throughout the series and it goes right over my head.
Feel free to look up groucho and marx brothers. They were still on TV when this show was cast, but groucho passed on in 1977. Reiner didn't carry out this particular role so well, but it made sense to viewers at the time.

A few of those wigs were pretty bad but it looked fine in the second half

Jean Stapleton was in 5 episodes of the first season of ABP. The first 2 episodes of the second season is when Archie deals with her passing. This Thanksgiving episode is a two parter from the first season of ABP.
@@patrickhawkins4677 and this 2 parter was the final time you saw all 4 cast members together at once (O'Connor, Stapleton, Reiner and Struthers). Edith was said to have died in between the 1st and 2nd seasons of ABP; Gloria you did see in the final season of ABP to promote her new series but you never saw Mike again.

C'mon get real Archie and mike were never lovable to each other that was stupid
You saying they had no love for each other? Then Archie would have kicked Mike out a long time ago, or forbid his daughters wedding to him. Or Mike would have left. But he did end up leaving Gloria though it never really explains why. Those two were always a bad match bc it takes more than love to make a relationship work.
There was some softening of the relationship between Archie and Mike during the last few years of AITF. There’s a wonderful episode shortly before the Stivics leave called Two’s a Crowd, where Archie and Mike get locked in the storeroom at the bar, and have a long talk. Mike has a greater understanding or Archie after learning how abusive Archie’s father was towards him. Mike was only in a few more episodes after that, and you can see there is more affection between the two - the episode where the Stivics leave New York, and the episode where the Bunkers visit them in California, for example.

I`m surprised that the left and the woke have not tried to get this show off the air being shown in reruns ... Archie is not PC for today... That`s what makes him awesome...he speaks his mind and never walked on egg shells for doing so.
