After finishing Discovery, I can say you're not missing much by stopping mid-S3 😂.... Strange New Worlds is so much better.

I think season 4 was much better than season 3.

For me, as a non-American, it will probably forever remain a mystery how one can talk so much without saying anything.

I became a Star Trek fan because it provided 100% allegorical story telling, only using metaphors to refer to our contemporary times. There was not a single character in classic Star Trek until 2005 that was like a contemporary human being today: Either they were an alien race and that culture was used as a lens to reflect about our times and issues, or they were more enlightened sophisticated human beings, that were unlike the viewers at home - cool, calm and composed professional astronauts and officers, competent in doing their job, representing excellence in their field and getting their sh*t together. This artistic vision ensured that the stories and characters always provided a new perspective that was unlike anything we know of today and the show did not appeal to the narcissism of the audience since it did not provide a single character and viewpoint that was identical to our times. It never said: "You are okay the way you are" it always said: "You can be better." Star Trek used to challenge its audience and its makers.
Since 2005 Star Trek is not 100% allegorical anymore and in many cases simply mirrors our contemporary times and contemporary characters into the future without changing much instead of using metaphors as a lens. Not providing a new perspective but simply appeals to the narcissism by mirroring characters and viewpoints and easy-to-digest storytelling (plot device & melodrama galore), easy to watch and easy to produce/write. More of the same.
